Chapter 933 - 278: Monster
It seemed like something akin to blood was churning continuously, the smell of blood wafting up from underground, a scent that was likely bone-chilling.
More purplish-red tentacles extended from the ground, thrashing about in the air ceaselessly.
Su Changxing retreated with the Big Horn just in time, having returned to the safe zone before those tentacles broke through the ground. Yet, they could still feel the ground tremble constantly, with small stones also slightly bouncing. Furthermore, this was provoking nearby street zombies to surge in the same direction, their roars echoing from afar, rising and falling, forming a large undead tide.
When these zombies are heavily stimulated, there’s a significant chance they could form an undead tide, which often possesses a vague, yet unified consciousness.
Su Changxing could sense the faint consciousness belonging to the undead tide, possibly even communicate with it. Such consciousness is built upon the numerous weak self-awareness of the zombies.
However, even a massive undead tide appeared insignificant in the face of those huge purplish-red tentacles; one sweep and a large section would fall, the tentacles even sprouting enormous mouths filled with fangs to swallow surrounding zombies whole.
"Exaggerated, this must be at least a Tier Six creature."
Su Changxing estimated, yet wasn’t too certain. After all, the perception of a zombie clone was too vague; without the corresponding ability, he might not even distinguish people or animals ten meters away.
"Hah ya." The Big Horn was trying hard to express opinions by the side, but Su Changxing couldn’t entirely comprehend its meaning.
Though both sides could barely communicate, the language barrier made expressing overly complex meanings quite difficult to simplify.
"Hah ya." The Big Horn reiterated.
This time, Su Changxing roughly grasped its meaning, saying it had previously encountered this entity, though back then it was still very "thin".
Yes, it was very thin.
Such an expression is incredibly vivid, and hard to imagine, especially coming from a zombie.
"So, you mean when you first saw this thing, it was still very weak? Just how weak, it probably wasn’t weaker than you, right?" Su Changxing asked.
The Big Horn nodded, then shook its head again.
It roughly meant they were about the same.
Su Changxing fell silent for a moment. If the Big Horn could remember it, it wouldn’t have been very long ago when this creature, which was "about the same" as the Big Horn, grew to this extent.
This is probably an incredible thing.
Everything has to follow a certain law. Even if Su Changxing had unlimited Extraordinary Crystals and limitless energy, growing to this extent would still require continuous time.
Let alone this monster, which couldn’t achieve such conditions.
No.
What if it could achieve this condition?
A spark of inspiration flashed in Su Changxing’s mind, suddenly contemplating the theoretical existence of infinite energy sources in this world, at least infinite relative to low-tier Extraordinary Creatures.
Energy Station, or perhaps the Giant Hand.
For those like the owner of the Giant Hand, even if some scraps fell off, it would be a great boon to those lesser entities deemed as trash.
Of course, all these judgments rely heavily on the Big Horn’s accurate assessment.
Su Changxing was deeply skeptical of Big Horn’s accuracy, doubting whether a not-so-brainy Corpse Ghost might indulge in baseless fantasies.
Subsequently, another round of earth-shattering tremors ensued. Human corpses were pierced by tentacles, hung in the sky, frozen as if in stasis.
Tentacles in mid-air took on the semblance of a giant dead tree, covering the entire sky.
But this scenario didn’t last long, as the colossal stationary tentacles were cut down one by one, like trees being chopped, falling piece by piece.
Another eerie presence emerged.
Su Changxing’s eyelids twitched as he retreated step by step with the Big Horn, before the sudden commotion vanished. It was as if nothing had happened, with all unsevered tentacles retracting into the ground, leaving large pits on the surface.
He finally understood how the large pit in front of the factory came to be, not dug by dogs but left after those tentacles pierced the ground.
"Looks like we’re safe for now."
Su Changxing exhaled, reasoning it was likely the intervention of powerful Extraordinaries, with new humans and humankind possibly grappling with that underground entity.
Thereupon, he found a building with the Big Horn to temporarily hide, observing the situation while contemplating the absorption of the newly acquired Tier Eight Crystal as Big Horn gnawed at the half-corpse of a bulldog in the corner, producing munching noises.
"So it’s been dealt with?"
He looked out the window, uncertain; regardless of whether that creature was dealt with, it wasn’t a favorable situation.
If it wasn’t dealt with and stayed around, their safety in the area would be compromised.
If it was dealt with, it suggested the existence of even more powerful Extraordinaries, not good news for him, for stumbling upon them might lead to trouble.
As the Tier Eight Extraordinary Crystal was continuously absorbed, his Extraordinary Process approached a new tier’s edge, with the Extraordinary Power inside him accumulating, bodily changes happening imperceptibly.
This time, his self-healing ability strengthened.
Even a slight enhancement to his already limited self-healing ability was significant.
Meanwhile,
The Big Horn had completely devoured the bulldog’s corpse; its accumulated power reached a critical point, resulting in changes. A distinct red pattern emerged on its slender arm, winding forward until covering its entire hand.
"If we could devour another Tier Eight Crystal, I could surely advance."
Su Changxing analyzed their current predicament; should they manage to hunt another Tier Eight Extraordinary Creature, allowing him to advance to Tier Eight, their overall strength would significantly increase.
From Tier Nine to Tier Eight, there would be a qualitative breakthrough in combat capability, and more importantly, greater and more diverse abilities.
Though his current combat prowess wasn’t weak, the combat style remained overly simplistic, easily countered by certain creatures’ abilities.
Moreover, a critical flaw was his lack of any survival capability, hinting at no margin for error, any mistake potentially fatal.
His clone didn’t possess immortality; if dead, it was for certain death, with the main body losing immortality temporarily, all prior efforts wasted. Even if binding another ordinary zombie in this world was possible, everything would need restarting.
