Chapter 159: Chapter 143: The Captain Strikes, A Jianghu Emergency (Part 2)

All evolved plants discovered so far had developed along a single path. A plant that evolved in two directions at once had never been found!

As the two of them were whispering, the Dawn Base speedboats had already closed to within thirty meters.

"All speedboats, spread out and keep moving fast! Everyone, take cover! If you see them throw an Iron Melon, concentrate your fire and try to blow it up in the air over the Peach Blossom Base speedboat!" the captain warned.

"Yes, sir!"

The aide to his side thought for a moment before suggesting, "Why don’t we just lay down covering fire on their speedboat? Anything that pops up won’t be able to get through our hail of bullets. While we’re laying down fire, we can close the distance. Then, Captain, you’ll be in range to use your Superpower!"

An Evolver’s Mental Energy was limited. Within the range of their Mental Energy, they could freely control their attacks, giving them a tracking effect.

If the distance was too great and exceeded their Mental Energy’s range, any attack they unleashed would be left to fate.

The captain frowned slightly. He winced at the thought of wasting so many bullets, but he had to admit the aide’s suggestion was excellent.

"Alright, we’ll do it your way!" The captain made his decision, gritting his teeth. "All hands, listen up! Lay down covering fire on that speedboat, now!"

The rifles on the pursuing speedboats roared to life again, their fire far more frantic than before. The air above the railings became a dense web of bullets; anything that so much as poked out would be riddled with holes.

Jin Ziyu had reinforced the entire part of the cabin that rose above the railings with steel plates.

The bullets slammed against the steel plates, ricocheting in all directions.

One bullet ricocheted and flew straight at Qin Haonan. Just as it was about to strike him, it seemed to hit something and skewed to the side.

Qin Haonan’s back was soaked with cold sweat. He gave a thumbs-up to Jin Ziyu, who was inside the cabin.

’Good thing Jin Ziyu stepped in,’ he thought. ’Otherwise, I would’ve been hit for sure!’

A proud look appeared on Jin Ziyu’s face. She waved her hand, and the metal blocks on the deck instantly transformed into two curved steel shields.

One of the shields enveloped Qin Haonan, while the other, slightly larger one, shielded Lin Mu and another person.

Now they didn’t have to worry about stray bullets.

Qin Haonan gripped the handle of his steel shield and peered through the observation slit. He said in a low voice, "Jin Ziyu, on my command, open the Spray Melon weapon ports!"

"Got it!" Jin Ziyu replied.

The enemy’s firepower was too intense. Qin Haonan didn’t dare risk throwing an Iron Melon. With so many bullets flying around, a single stray shot could hit the Iron Melon he threw, causing it to detonate in midair.

He decided to wait for them to get closer and then use the Spray Melons to counter their suppressive fire directly.

Spray Melons were installed in nearly every part of the speedboat. Thanks to Jin Ziyu, a Gold-Type Evolver, the melons could be embedded into any part of the speedboat’s hull at will.

The stems of the Spray Melons could also be concealed within metal tubes, making them difficult for enemies to damage. To activate one, all you had to do was pull the stem inside the tube, and the Spray Melon would be triggered.

The Dawn Base speedboats were now only about ten meters away. The captain warned again, "Everyone, stay under cover! They still have Spray Melons!"

At his words, the guards immediately ducked back behind the railings. The railings had been reinforced with a wooden plank sandwiched between two sheets of iron, specifically to defend against enemy fire.

Though the guards were still shooting, they were now just firing blindly from behind cover.

"Captain, shouldn’t you make your move now?" the aide asked, looking at the speedboat just ahead.

The captain shook his head. "We need to get closer. I can’t guarantee a hit from this distance."

The enemy boats were still closing in. Qin Haonan said in a low voice, "Open the protective covers for the Spray Melons on the stern railing first!"

"Right!"

At Jin Ziyu’s command, sections of the metal on the stern railing slid open, revealing the Spray Melons embedded within.

Without a moment’s hesitation, Qin Haonan yanked the Spray Melons’ stems, snapping them. Seeds immediately shot out!

THWACK! THWACK! THWACK!

The Spray Melon seeds pierced straight through the outer iron sheet and shredded the wooden plank inside, sending splinters flying. The final layer of iron was dented with deep, bulging impacts.

Seeing this, the Dawn Base guards hiding behind the barrier stumbled back a step in terror.

"The seeds are that powerful?"

"Good thing we made it three layers thick. If it was just a single sheet of iron, they probably would have gone right through!"

"Is that really a plant? Damn it, that’s more powerful than a gun!"

This volley from the Spray Melons caused a brief lull in the enemy’s fire. Seizing the opportunity, Qin Haonan hurled the Iron Melon in his hand.

Seeing the perfectly round Iron Melon flying toward them, the captain roared, "Evasive maneuvers! Don’t let up on the suppressive fire!"

They were in the middle of a high-speed chase, which was different from the situation with the previous, stationary speedboat. As long as they adjusted their course, they could still dodge most of the Iron Melons.

The captain’s speedboat swerved sharply to the left, dodging the Iron Melon from Qin Haonan and closing the distance between them even further.

Now, only about five meters separated them from Qin Haonan’s speedboat. The captain knew his chance had come. He focused his Mental Energy, and with a wave of his hand, a Fireball shot out, heading straight for the fuel tank of Qin Haonan’s boat!

Although the heavy rain significantly weakened the Superpowers of Fire-Type Evolvers, as long as the Fireball remained within the Evolver’s range of control, they could maintain its power by continuously expending Mental Energy.

Through the observation slit, Qin Haonan saw the Fireball!
