Chapter 243: 243
The grey concrete wharf at the mouth of the lower drainage canal didn’t smell like the open sea shelf anymore. It carried a dense, heavy odor of oxidized battery line fluid, burnt industrial coke, and the sharp electric friction coming off the central district’s primary transmission towers. The rain came down in vertical, greasy lines that turned the black coal soot on the stone tracks into an inch of dark slime.
Jun-ho walked out from the tunnel portal first, his large rubber boots making a flat, heavy squelch against the wet masonry floor. He had buckled the stone-gray panels of the Ashen Monarch Core Plate back over his tattered gray undershirt, the rough basalt texture cold against his ribs. His left hand kept an iron-hard grip around the matte-black hemp wrap of The Ash Remnant, the blunt edge of the five-thousand-fold blade resting quiet against his thigh.
Right at the lower corner of his eye, the solid black numbers were waiting, perfectly silent.

Tae-woo and the four elite vanguards formed a tight, heavy line right behind his shoulders, their massive Tier 4 frames hauling the five wooden handcarts loaded with the multi-million currency crates. The timber panels of the carts gave a slow, creaking groan under the massive density of the unrefined crystals, their liquid blue glare leaking through the wood slats and turning the grey mist around their boots into a bright sapphire lane.
Before they could reach the rail of Rea’s private black lugger, a sudden, heavy shadow broke through the rain from the upper terminal platform.
Standing on the concrete steps, surrounded by a private council of twelve corporate directors in expensive blue wool cloaks, was Sang-woo’s father. His fingers were clawing frantically at the gold crest on his collar, his face completely pale, his small, watery eyes tracking the massive mountain of blue light sitting inside the handcarts. Behind his shoulders stood twenty heavy enforcers in thick, polished white alloy plate armor, their automated crossbows primed with blue lightning arrows.
"You won’t leave this siding alive, novice!" the old director screamed, his voice cracking with a frantic, greedy panic that echoed off the hollow rafters. He pointed a silver master stylus straight at Jun-ho’s hood. "The naval patrol cutters have already dropped the three-layer steel chain nets across the river mouth! The entire central harbor detail is locked to this terminal registry! Drop the black bar and hand over the ledger!"
Jun-ho didn’t drop his bag down. He took two long steps forward, his large rubber boots sliding smoothly over the wet concrete plates until he stood exactly ten paces from the step line.
Lilith slid right up to his left arm, her exceptionally long, smooth legs cutting a clean line through the low purple mist of the wharf. The tight crimson leather of her outfit pulled dangerously flat across the voluptuous, perfect curve of her round hips, her narrow waist twisting with a lazy, deliberate rhythm that brought her frame right against his denim trousers. Her massive, half-visible chest rose and fell in quick, deep gasps against his bare upper arm, her full red lips parting into a low, breathless murmur right against his neck.
"The old man brought his whole accounting board to the butcher block, big guy," Lilith whispered, her wide crimson eyes glowing with a lazy, dangerous fire under her long ink-black hair. Her long fingers, tipped with sharp crimson nails, caught the wet hem of his gray shirt, pulling his torso an inch closer to her shoulder with a teasing, hot friction that made his skin prickle against the frost. Her primitive demon instincts were completely unraveled, her spirit locking onto his presence with a fierce, submissive passion that made her knees tremble against his boots. "Let me handle the rear line mages, Jun-ho... I want to watch you break their circle from the inside of my skin."
"The registry belongs to the collective detail, demon," Eun-bi’s sharp, furious voice barked from the opposite side of the iron pillar.
The little nurse walked two long steps across the wet soot, her heavy canvas bag slung tight across her waist. Her dark hair was wet and messy, loose strands sticking to her forehead from the sweat of the lower channels, but her sharp face was completely rigid with an intense, biting jealousy. She jammed her heavy rubber boot directly between Lilith’s leather trousers and the side of Jun-ho’s jeans, her bare thigh pressing hard against his shins for stability as she gave the demon girl a cold, biting look. She kept a tight, angry grip on her silver trauma scissors, her fingers clicking the blades together with a sharp, impatient snap.
"The database log is still running the core synchronization, Jun-ho," Eun-bi said, her voice dropping into that flat, quiet public-sector drawl that was thick with an intense, sharp irritation. "If you let this rogue broker crowd the narrow track with her hair and her incense, the system will trace the mana displacement before we can even clear the drainage outlet. The registry belongs to the collective detail, not her private bedroom."
Rea slid off a secondary workbench five paces away with a slow, fluid stride that made the high-slashed silk of her black tunic rustle loudly against her long bare legs. Her golden-blue eyes spun slowly in a lazy, dangerous circle under the gray sky, her full crimson lips tightening into a thin, jealous line as she wedged her own voluptuous hourglass shape tight against Jun-ho’s opposite sleeve, her wild orchid perfume cutting sharp through Lilith’s sulfur incense.
"The little nurse is right about the timer, big guy," Rea murmured, her bare arm rubbing against his shirt fabric with a heavy, possessive friction that competitive edge turning her tone sharp. "The demon girl is a bit too forward with her placement. She thinks because she signed the soul bind she owns the whole ledger line. I have the master key for the lower drainage grid already logged on my console. We don’t need her sulfur codes to clear the path."
Jun-ho didn’t pull back an inch from any of them. He reached out his bare right hand, his fingers closing around Rea’s narrow waist under the loose silk fabric of her tunic, while his left shoulder remained pinned against the hot, firm line of Lilith’s leather top. The dual friction made the suppressed lake behind his ribs pulse in a deep, slow rhythm that filled the entire dark hold with a silent, heavy weight.
"The path is open," Jun-ho said flatly.
He lifted The Ash Remnant with his left hand, the new black hemp wrap dry and solid in his grip. He didn’t drop into a defensive stance, and he didn’t use his back. He let the lake of cold mana behind his ribs break its banks completely, the Ashen Domain - Phase 4 expanding outward in a flat, seventy-meter ring of thick grey frost that turned the wet grease on the concrete plates into solid white discs of ice instantly.

He simply snapped his left wrist, driving the sharp matte edge of the five-thousand-fold blade straight down onto the concrete wharf beneath his feet.
The thunderclap was faster this time, a localized earthquake that shattered the massive granite wharf into thousands of tiny stone shards. The force of the strike, multiplied five thousand times by the weapon’s bound trait, didn’t just clear the front line; the shockwave tore all twenty enforcers and the twelve corporate directors off their feet, throwing their broken bodies backward through the heavy warehouse walls in a single, massive wave of shattered masonry.

Jun-ho didn’t look at the broken bodies inside the ruins. He turned his back on the step line, stepped over the low wooden rail of the black lugger, and walked straight down into the crew hold.
Old Man Hak slammed the gear handle forward on the wooden console, the single-cylinder engine letting out a massive, dark roar as the boat slid away from the concrete pier. The boat hit the three-layer steel chain nets at the river mouth at full throttle, the automated sub-nets completely frozen and cracked into useless gray threads under the pressure of his seventy-meter domain before the harbor operators could even clear the frost off their visors.
The old wooden lugger slid right past the broadside of the city sectors, its twin props leaving a long, brilliant white wake of broken ice and foam in the dark water as they shot straight out into the dark gray mist of the open sea, leaving the legacy families and the central district completely behind them in the dark.
