Chapter 376: High Level Survivor

By the time Kai returned to Cameron City, the battle had already begun to settle down.

The destruction of the Floating Citadel had completely changed the situation on the battlefield. Without the enormous fortress supporting them, the machine forces had lost much of their coordination, and the remaining units were either destroyed or forced to retreat.

However, Kai quickly realized that returning to the city was going to be more troublesome than he expected.

The moment he landed, people began gathering around him.

"That’s him!"

"He’s the one who entered the Citadel!"

"I saw him! He flew straight through the battlefield!"

"Was he really alone?"

"Who is he?"

"What faction does he belong to?"

"He’s definitely high-level, right?"

"Of course he is! How else could he have entered that thing by himself?"

The questions continued one after another.

Kai looked around helplessly as more and more survivors approached him.

Some were curious, while others looked at him with obvious admiration.

After all, everyone had witnessed what happened.

While most of the awakened fighters had been struggling to survive against the machine army, Kai had actually charged straight toward the Floating Citadel.

And he hadn’t simply attacked it from the outside.

He had entered the fortress alone.

Then, not long afterward, the entire Citadel had exploded in the sky.

To the people of Cameron City, there was little doubt that Kai had played a major role in its destruction.

"Brother, what level are you?"

"Are you from one of the major factions?"

"What’s your name?"

"Which guild are you from?"

"How did you manage to get inside?"

Kai rubbed his forehead. He was still not feeling well. Furthermore, he had expected some attention after destroying the Citadel, but he hadn’t expected this much.

Fortunately, someone soon stepped forward to deal with the situation.

"Everyone, please give him some space."

A group of high level Survivors quickly approached and at the front was Cornelio.

The moment he arrived, he looked toward Kai and gave him a calm smile.

"Kai."

Kai immediately understood what Cornelio was doing as the latter turned toward the surrounding survivors.

"Kai is connected to the Aries Faction."

The crowd immediately became quieter.

"The Aries Faction?"

"He’s with them?"

"Then that makes sense."

"I knew someone like him had to belong to one of the major factions."

Cornelio continued speaking before anyone could ask more questions.

"He’s currently under the protection of our faction, so if anyone has any questions for him, you can ask us instead."

His meaning was obvious... He wasn’t here to hear them at all. He just meant that they shouldn’t cause trouble... Don’t try anything funny.

The people around them quickly understood.

Nobody wanted to provoke the Aries Faction, especially after what had happened today.

Kai glanced at Cornelio and couldn’t help but smile.

"Thanks."

Cornelio simply nodded.

"Consider it a small favor."

The crowd gradually dispersed, although many people still looked back at Kai as they left.

Kai finally let out a quiet sigh.

"That was troublesome."

Cornelio chuckled.

"You should get used to it. After today, your name will probably spread throughout the city."

"I’d rather avoid that."

Kai shook his head. He had no interest in becoming famous.

He simply wanted to become stronger, obtain better resources, and uncover the truth behind the apocalypse and end this thing...

After saying goodbye to Cornelio, Kai quickly returned to his shop.

The moment he entered, he saw Farrah and the two young employees waiting for him.

"You finally came back!"

Farrah immediately walked over.

"We heard the Citadel exploded, and then everyone started talking about some mysterious person who entered it alone."

She stared at Kai suspiciously.

"That wasn’t you, was it?"

Kai paused.

Then he smiled awkwardly.

"...Maybe."

Farrah stared at him.

The two young employees also looked at him with wide eyes.

"Boss, that was really you?"

Kai scratched his cheek.

"It worked out."

"Worked out?"

Farrah’s expression became strange.

"You entered an enemy fortress that was attacking the entire city, and then the entire fortress exploded. You call that ’working out’?"

Kai laughed.

"Don’t worry. I’m fine."

After reassuring them that he hadn’t suffered any serious injuries, Kai finally managed to escape to the back of the shop.

Once he closed the door to his room, the noise from outside immediately disappeared.

Kai sat down on the edge of his bed.

Only then did he finally have the chance to check his notifications properly.

There was one particular notification he had been looking forward to seeing.

His level.

"Let’s see."

Kai opened his status and his eyes immediately widened.

[ Level: 45 ]

Kai stared at the number for several seconds.

"Level 45..."

He couldn’t help but smile. Well, he had only recently reached Level 40, and now, after destroying the Floating Citadel, he had gained another five levels.

Five levels in a single day. That was an absurd amount of experience.

Kai knew exactly how difficult leveling had become.

After reaching Level 40, the amount of experience required for every level had increased dramatically. Compared to the earlier stages, leveling from Level 40 onward was roughly ten times more difficult.

Yet he had somehow managed to gain five levels in a single day.

"Not bad."

He had initially thought that reaching Level 40 would already be enough to give him a significant advantage. Now he was already Level 45...

And that wasn’t even the most important thing he had obtained today.

Kai’s gaze shifted toward the notification panel.

The Legendary-Grade Gift Pack was still waiting there.

"Now this is what I’m interested in."

He had opened countless gift packs since the apocalypse began.

Basic... Enhanced... and Superior...

Now, a Legendary-Grade Gift Pack was here...

"Let’s see what I get."

He selected the Legendary-Grade Gift Pack.

Ding!

[ Legendary-Grade Gift Pack detected. ]

[ Would you like to open it? ]

Kai grinned.

"Open it."

The moment he gave the command, the gift pack began to glow.

A brilliant golden light filled the room.

Kai’s eyes were filled with excitement as the system notification appeared.

[ Congratulations! ]

[ You have obtained... ]
