Chapter 747: Chapter 515: Stirring Up the Mists of the Jade Swamp with the Spear of the Light Holy See
Just as the Six-winged Angel of Death teleported behind Lightning once more, its long sword poised to strike.
"OMMM..."
An invisible ripple spread out with Coal Ball at its center.
Lightning and Raylo’s figures instantly turned illusory, then vanished.
The Angel of Death’s fatal strike hit nothing but air.
Several kilometers away, space twisted, and Lightning’s figure staggered into view, continuing to fly forward without looking back.
’Space Magic?’
A flicker of emotion crossed the Six-winged Angel of Death’s face, which quickly morphed into an even deeper, colder killing intent.
’Let’s see how many times you can travel through space!’
He once again transformed into a streak of white light and gave chase at an even greater speed.
The wind was damp, carrying a cloying, nauseating stench of rotting vegetation and earth that assaulted the nostrils.
Raylo lay flat on Lightning’s broad back, his body rising and falling gently with every flap of the Giant Dragon’s wings.
He narrowed his eyes, pulling his gaze away from the endless, dark green swamp below to look behind him.
Behind them, that speck of golden light still followed, unhurried, like a maggot clinging to bone.
A Catastrophe Level Six-winged Angel of Death.
It was like a Divine Spirit walking the mortal realm, and Raylo was the heretic it was tasked to "purify."
"Left!"
Raylo shouted.
"ROAR!"
Lightning let out a low roar. Its massive draconic body twisted sharply in mid-air, and with a crackle of electricity, it shot dozens of meters to the left.
At almost the exact same instant it took evasive action,
A golden sword light, a thousand meters long, slashed down where it had just been.
The sword light grazed past Lightning’s right wing, the fierce gale tearing off several bluish-purple Dragon Scales.
Raylo could even feel a stinging, burning sensation on his cheek from the Divine Energy.
He didn’t look back, just barked out another low command.
"Coal Ball!"
The little black kitten, which had been curled up in a ball in front of him, snapped its head up.
Deep within its glossy black eyes, countless silver Stars seemed to be swirling.
It stretched out a tiny paw and swiped gently at the empty space before it.
"SHRRRIP..."
A nearly imperceptible spatial tear flashed before its claws and vanished.
Immediately after, Lightning, along with Raylo and the two small creatures on its back, abruptly blurred like ink dropped in water, fading rapidly until they disappeared completely.
The next second, the figure of the Six-winged Angel of Death appeared where they had vanished.
His head turned slightly, as if sensing something.
Then, the six golden wings on its back beat once, and it again transformed into a streak of light, chasing after the spatial fluctuations that had just stabilized several kilometers away.
...
"Hah... hah..."
Lightning’s figure staggered out of the distorted space. Its breathing had become much heavier, and the frequency of its wingbeats had clearly slowed.
The continuous high-intensity flight and extreme evasions had taken a huge toll on it.
Raylo patted its neck, covered in hard scales, to soothe it.
His own expression was grim.
’Catastrophe Level.’
The weight behind those two words could only be truly understood when facing it firsthand—the despair was absolute.
It wasn’t just a difference in power levels; it was a complete crushing of one dimension of life by another.
Every time Raylo thought he had shaken their pursuer, that speck of golden light would arrive with a blade of light, striking down from above.
It was only now that Raylo realized the true power of the Duke and Thunder Dragon Astra. That the two of them combined could stand against a Catastrophe Level being was astonishing. They truly deserved their reputation as the great founding figures who had carved out a nation with the power of one man and one dragon.
’Without using the Ice Wind Demon Head and my few Catastrophe Level items,’ Raylo mused, ’I would need all four of my Giant Dragon partners just to barely hold my own against this Six-winged Angel.’
"Just hold on a little longer, Lightning."
Raylo’s voice sounded faint and unsteady in the howling wind.
"ROAR!"
Lightning let out a low growl and picked up speed again.
They had already flown more than five hundred kilometers deep into the Jade Swamp.
The scenery below grew more and more primitive and perilous.
From time to time, massive Demons would poke their heads out of the murky, dark-green swamp water, staring up at the sky with greedy, bloodthirsty eyes.
The toxic miasma in the air grew thicker, becoming a visible, sickly green fog. The potent poison it contained was strong enough to melt steel in seconds.
The swamp’s complex environment and omnipresent dangers could, to some extent, create a slight interference for the Six-winged Angel behind them.
Just then, alarm bells screamed in Raylo’s mind!
He whipped his head around.
He saw that the Six-winged Angel of Death behind them seemed to have lost its patience.
It had stopped in mid-air and was slowly raising its Holy Light Long Sword.
"OMMM..."
In that instant, it felt as if all the light between heaven and earth was being drawn in and devoured by the long sword in its hand.
A golden Array, over a hundred meters in diameter and composed of countless Holy Runes, slowly unfurled behind it.
A terrifying energy, enough to make all of creation tremble and filled with the aura of judgment and destruction, began to gather madly at the tip of the sword.
’This is bad!’
Raylo’s pupils contracted violently.
’With this one strike, it plans to purify us completely, along with this entire patch of space!’
"Coal Ball!!"
Raylo’s voice was filled with an unprecedented urgency.
"MROW!"
Coal Ball shot out both front paws and, with all its might, ripped forcefully at the empty space before it!
"CRACK!"
A spatial rift, dozens of meters long, was forcibly torn open by it!
On the other side of the rift was chaotic spatial turbulence.
Without the slightest hesitation, Lightning dove headfirst into the rift.
Just as their figures were about to be completely swallowed by the rift...
The long sword in the hand of the Six-winged Angel of Death finally swung down.
A brilliant pillar of golden light erupted from the sword’s tip.
The pillar of light was like a world-ending spear thrown by a Divine Spirit. Everywhere it passed, the dense toxic miasma, the murky swamp, and even the powerful Demons lurking within were all instantly vaporized, not even leaving ash behind.
"RUMBLE-RUMBLE-RUMBLE!"
The spatial rift slammed shut the instant the pillar of light descended.
But a sliver of that destructive power still managed to pass through the rapidly closing fissure.
Having just completed its Space Travel, Lightning let out a pained shriek.
Its draconic body shuddered violently. On its left wing, a patch of scales instantly turned charred black and curled up, revealing the mangled, bloody flesh beneath.
"Lightning!"
Raylo’s heart sank.
He quickly took out a Life Potion from his Spatial Bag—one personally concocted by Master Barnaby, brimming with immense Life Energy—and fed half to Lightning and half to Coal Ball.
After doing all this, he finally raised his head and surveyed his surroundings.
They were now hovering above a vast lake.
The lake water was an eerie, deep, dark green, as calm and unrippled as a massive piece of Jade.
Surrounding the lake were even taller and more twisted colossal trees, their roots like gnarled pythons plunging deep into the lakebed.
The air was suffused with Magic Energy so dense it was almost tangible.
This was the central region of the Jade Swamp.
Having arrived here, Raylo knew he was running out of time.
The Angel of Death behind them would catch up again in fifteen seconds at most.
He had to stir up this pool of "stagnant water" completely within those fifteen seconds!
"Lightning."
"Can you still hold on?"
Lightning swallowed the Potion. A cooling sensation spread from its wound, and a bit of its flagging strength returned.
It let out a low dragon’s roar in response.
Its enormous draconic eyes shone with the unyielding pride of a Giant Dragon.
"Good!"
Raylo stood up straight, the fierce wind whipping his black hair back.
He pointed down at the massive, mirror-calm lake below.
"Aim for what’s below!"
"Use your strongest Thunderbolt!"
"And blast this damned swamp... wide open for me!"
