Ghost Catching System
Chapter 1342 - 1339: Corpse Chief
The formations on the mountain really were plentiful, and the path was much harder than the one they took before. This time, Chu Hao personally walked in front to lead the way, bypassing all the formations.
Han Qianxue was shocked. This guy could actually avoid every single Formation.
Ghost Shadows was also astonished. "How did you do that?"
Chu Hao didn't even turn his head. "Is it supposed to be hard? The Formations here are too trivial, no challenge at all."
"Ding… Pretentiousness successful, gained eighty thousand Pretentiousness Points."
Su Yao smiled softly. She knew Chu Hao would never back down because of some Formations here.
Ghost Shadows was also stunned. There were too many Formations here, hidden in all sorts of unexpected corners. If you accidentally triggered one, it would be over.
Chu Hao led them forward all the way.
At this moment, Chu Hao stopped. There was nowhere ahead to walk—Formations covered everything.
Chu Hao looked at Su Yao. "It's all Formations up ahead, no road left. Your turn."
Su Yao nodded slightly and stepped forward to examine the Formations.
Before long, Su Yao had already broken the Formation, and Chu Hao continued leading the way.
Ghost Shadows exclaimed, "With you two together, it's practically a perfect combo."
One could see Formations, the other could break them. It was hard for anything to block their path.
Han Qianxue's eyes froze for a moment. "Cut the nonsense. Where do we go next?"
Halfway up the mountain, they had already climbed very high. In the forest ahead, a figure stood behind a tree, yet still got noticed by Chu Hao.
Chu Hao summoned his Ice Bow, pulled the bowstring, and said, "Come out."
They watched as the figure behind the tree staggered out, swaying. Its clothes were tattered, and from some traces you could tell it wore very ancient-style garments.
His eyes were empty, yet there was a violet-blue glow in his pupils, like the starry sea.
A thick corpse aura made the nearby air reek of icy death.
Ghost Shadows cried out, "Corpse Chief."
This was a Corpse Chief. It looked no different from a human, except that its consciousness was already dead—this was a corpse.
This thing was very similar to a zombie, or rather, an upgraded version of a zombie.
System prompt: "Quest issued: Hunt Corpse Chiefs. Upon hunting one hundred Corpse Chiefs, you will receive one hundred and fifty million Experience Points."
System prompt: "Quest completion reward: one Golden Royal Treasure Chest."
System prompt: "Quest completion reward: one Corpse Core."
The quest rewards were fairly decent.
Han Qianxue and Su Yao both became vigilant. Ghost Shadows had said before that every single Corpse Chief here had existed for a very long time—their power was anything but ordinary.
Chu Hao fired an ice arrow. The Corpse Chief moved like some crawling beast; its body curved into an arc and quickly dodged.
"So fast," Han Qianxue said.
Han Qianxue made her move. Her hands formed seals, and vines sprouted from the ground, constantly emerging from underground and crazily wrapping around the Corpse Chief.
These vines were like snakes, easily catching the Corpse Chief and binding it up.
Han Qianxue summoned a sheet of Talisman Papers and slapped it onto the vines. The vines' color changed, becoming steel.
Su Yao said, "You've already gotten this proficient with the beginner-stage Earth Vine Yin Yang Technique."
Han Qianxue rolled her eyes. "You're mocking me. If you actually trained properly you'd be able to as well. You've just been obsessed with Formations for a few years."
Su Yao smiled, saying nothing. She was too beautiful; Ghost Shadows beside her stared, completely dazed.
"Bang."
A surge of powerful force shattered the steel vines; the Corpse Chief broke free, leaving Han Qianxue utterly shocked.
Even a King Realm expert in the Middle Vehicle Realm wouldn't be able to break free from the Iron Vine Technique. Just how strong was this Corpse Chief's power?
Ghost Shadows said anxiously, "The Corpse Chiefs' bodies are indestructible, and their strength surpasses some power-type Shanhai Beasts by far. Be careful."
A longsword appeared in Han Qianxue's hand. Her gaze turned cold as she charged in to kill.
The Corpse Chief was extremely fast; Han Qianxue refused to be outdone. The two of them clashed fiercely. The footwork under Han Qianxue's feet looked like overlapping afterimages; sword after sword slashed across the Corpse Chief's body.
"So hard," Han Qianxue said.
The sword in her hand was no ordinary weapon. It was a Yang Soldiers artifact, and to maximize speed, a Speed Orb was inlaid in the blade. It cut iron like mud.
The Corpse Chief was enraged, its body covered in countless wounds. It let out a furious howl; its claws were like sharp blades, scraping across the sword with sparks flying everywhere.
Han Qianxue was shocked and sent flying by that power. The difference in strength was too great.
Ghost Shadows said, "This is only a normal Corpse Chief. They've stayed here for years, absorbing enough Yang Source energy that their bodies have reached an indestructible level, enough to give King Realm powerhouses headaches."
Su Yao said, "It really is impressive."
Han Qianxue was enraged and shouted, "Fire Sparrow!"
She burst forth with Yang Energy and slashed out with her sword. A flaming Vermilion Bird manifested and dove at the Corpse Chief.
Terrifyingly, the Corpse Chief used its extraordinary, powerful body; its claws directly tore the Fire Sparrow apart. That vacant gaze turned ferocious.
They exchanged another move, and Han Qianxue was sent flying again. She gradually calmed down—this Corpse Chief was truly no simple foe.
"Look over here," Chu Hao said.
Chu Hao fired another arrow—fast and fierce—directly stabbing into the Corpse Chief's brow, forcing it back several steps. The Corpse Chief didn't die; it reached up to pull the ice arrow from its forehead.
A blast of cold erupted. The Corpse Chief gradually lost the ability to move and froze in place.
Han Qianxue never would have thought that after trading several moves with the Corpse Chief, Chu Hao would defeat it in just one.
Chu Hao walked over, surprised. "It's still not dead?"
Ghost Shadows said in amazement, "Corpse Chiefs have undying bodies. It's very hard to kill them."
Chu Hao went over and slapped a High-explosive Talisman onto the frozen Corpse Chief.
"Boom."
The Corpse Chief was blown into pieces.
"Ding… Corpse Chief kill count not included in Experience Points."
"Ding… Corpse Chief dropped items: two High-explosive Talismans."
Tsk tsk, the drop rate for items really was getting higher and higher.
Su Yao asked, "You alright?"
Han Qianxue snorted. "What could be wrong with me? If he hadn't interfered, I'd already have killed that Corpse Chief."
Su Yao smiled lightly. "I know how strong you are."
Chu Hao walked over, swaggering. "Don't be scared, ladies. Brother Hao will protect you."
Han Qianxue said angrily, "Who needs your protection? Get lost."
Chu Hao muttered, "Did she eat explosives, or is her period here? How's her temper this explosive?"
"You!" Han Qianxue turned and glared at Chu Hao.
He actually said her period came.
This guy was such a lech. What on earth did Su Yao see in him?
If she knew Chu Hao had seen Su Yao's perfect naked body, she'd probably kill him.
They continued up the mountain, following the route Ghost Shadows pointed out, and ran into more Corpse Chiefs along the way.
Han Qianxue struck again, determined to prove herself.
Chu Hao bellowed, "Let me handle this. Little missy, stay home and raise the kids, don't make a move."
Chu Hao charged forward and took down a Corpse Chief in just a few moves.
Ghost Shadows swallowed hard. "So strong."
He really was strong, especially that Ice Bow of his—its power was practically the ultimate counter to Corpse Chiefs.
