Genetic Engineer in a Tamer's World
Chapter 155: The Aqua Matrix
The early morning light filtered through the reinforced glass arches of the Fleshcraft Tower, illuminating the quiet research room. Kale Ardentis sat at his stone workbench, his green eyes scanning the intricate blueprints spread before him.
Beside his surgical tools rested the third glass vial, extracted from the Ancient rank core and glowing with a serene azure radiance. It held the pure, uncorrupted water essence needed for the next phase of the Elemental Resonance Project.
With the Flame Core and the Terra Shell firmly consolidated within Neo, the water attribute was the essential bridge required to balance the intense thermal output. Without it, the hydra's internal pathways would eventually experience thermal fatigue during prolonged combat.
Neo hopped onto the parchment, its three heads nudging the azure vial with curious golden eyes. The hydra let out a quiet, whistling trill as the cooling sensation radiated through the glass.
'Patience, Neo,' Kale murmured, stroking the central head's scales. 'We must construct the Aqua Matrix before you absorb a single drop.'
The heavy steel door of the laboratory unbolted with a sharp, mechanical click. Lazek Oberon walked inside, his dark grey cloak fluttering as he set a sealed brass cylinder onto the wooden table.
'Dorn Morrow has made his move, disciple,' Lazek announced, taking a slow puff from his curved smoking pipe. 'He claims the silver badge you recovered from Sector 9 was fabricated to slander his house.'
Kale did not look up from his drawings, his hand remaining steady as he dipped his pen into dark ink. 'A predictable response from a desperate man, Master.'
'Indeed,' Lazek agreed, blowing a thin ring of grey smoke toward the ceiling. 'However, Prince Renard has arranged a countermove to force House Morrow into the open.'
'The Prince has granted us access to the Royal Aqueducts beneath the central district,' Lazek continued, his dark eyes glinting with scientific interest. 'A rare, living Peak Ravager rank Azure Leviathan was captured yesterday for the royal gardens.'
'A living Azure Leviathan,' Kale noted, his interest piqued by the rare specimen. 'Its nervous tissue will provide the exact biological template needed to finalise the Aqua Matrix.'
Kale rolled his research parchments into a leather tube and secured his daggers to his belt. Accompanied by four gold-armoured guards sent by Renard, Kale and Lazek descended into the subterranean channels beneath the capital.
The Royal Aqueducts were a vast network of ancient stone arches and deep water channels carrying cold mountain streams to the upper city. The air was thick with the heavy scent of wet moss, mineral salt, and old stone.
They walked along the narrow stone walkways bordering the rushing water, the sound of roaring waves echoing off the high vaulted ceilings. Lanterns placed along the pillars cast flickering yellow light across the dark surface.
Near the central filtration basin, a massive iron cage sat submerged in the deep water. Inside floated the Azure Leviathan, a fifteen-meter-long serpent covered in glowing blue scales and long, feathery gills.
The creature moved through the submerged iron cage with fluid grace, its feathery gills filtering the rushing water. The raw, pristine mana radiating from its scales cooled the surrounding air, creating a thin mist above the basin.
Kale approached the edge of the stone walkway and activated his energy vision. His green eyes shimmered as he mapped the beast's internal water pathways, noting the fluid harmony between its core and its gills.
'The fluid circulation is remarkably clean,' Kale observed flatly, taking out his notebook to log the metrics. 'The water mana flows through its marrow with almost zero resistance.'
'That efficiency is precisely why House Morrow sought to monopolise these aquatic breeds,' Lazek remarked, watching the serpent swim. 'Their alchemical laboratories rely heavily on water filtration catalysts.'
Suddenly, an explosion shattered the subterranean chamber's quiet. The stone walkway beneath their feet buckled as two concealed mana charges detonated along the supporting pillars.
Iron grates collapsed into the churning water, sending clouds of dust and stone fragments flying through the air. The blast hurled the four gold-armoured guards into the deep basin.
The aqueduct's main iron gate slammed shut, locking the exits and trapping Kale and Lazek inside the flooding chamber. Dark, toxic fluid began pouring from the broken pipes, turning the clear mountain stream into a murky green pool.
From the shadows of the ruined arches, two multi-limbed, reptilian figures emerged from the water. They were Venomous Serpent Chimaeras, Peak Ravager rank horrors engineered with dripping fangs and long, whipping bone tails.
Beside the beasts stood three hooded assassins wearing black leather combat attire, their blades coated in high-frequency purple venom. Their chest plates bore no crests, but their movements carried the distinct discipline of House Morrow's private executioners.
'Eliminate the green-haired boy,' the lead assassin ordered in a harsh, raspy whisper. 'Leave no traces for the Grandmasters to trace.'
Lazek Oberon's face turned cold as he stepped forward, his dark grey cloak billowing as black mana erupted from his palms. 'Insolent rats,' Lazek spat coldly, his voice laced with absolute contempt.
Two of the assassins leapt toward Lazek, their poisoned blades carving purple arcs through the damp air. Lazek blurred into motion, using his high-level Martial footwork to intercept their strike with his bare, mana-coated hands.
The third assassin and both Venomous Serpent Chimaeras lunged directly at Kale, their red eyes fixed on his throat. The beasts whipped their tails through the rising water, sending waves of toxic green fluid splashing across the walkway.
Kale did not retreat a single inch. He channelled his Beast Force through his internal pathways, his Hexarion physiology pushing his speed and strength to the limit.
Green energy wrapped around his arms as he unsheathed his twin silver daggers. He ducked beneath the first serpent's sweeping bone tail, sliding across the wet stone with surgical precision.
'Neo, execute Flame Form!' Kale commanded through their shared soul bond.
The Nemesis Hydra shot off his shoulder like a crimson arrow. Mid-air, Neo activated its Flame Core, its body erupting into a blinding pillar of incandescent orange fire that lit the dark cavern.
Neo's flame instantly superheated the surrounding water. Huge clouds of scalding, white steam billowed outward, filling the aqueduct with a dense, blinding fog that obscured all sight.
The Venomous Serpents shrieked in agony as the boiling steam scorched their sensitive gills. Their toxic venom evaporated before it could touch the stone, turning into harmless white vapour.
Kale moved through the dense fog like an invisible phantom, guided by his Lesser Mana Manipulation skill. He located the lead serpent through vibrations in the moist air.
He leapt onto the creature's thick neck, driving his vibrating silver dagger straight into its primary nerve node. The serpent shuddered violently, its multi-limbed arms flailing uselessly as its nervous system collapsed.
'Neo, use Volcanic Devastation!' Kale ordered, his voice cutting through the hiss of steam.
The three-headed hydra hovered above the second serpent, its maws opening simultaneously. A concentrated sphere of compressed, volcanic fire mana formed in the centre of its three heads before detonating downward.
The explosive fire pulse struck the second serpent directly in its chest, shattering its scaled hide and incinerating its heart core in a fraction of a second. The beast collapsed into the boiling water with a heavy splash.
The remaining assassin backed away in sheer terror, his poisoned blade trembling as he stared into the thick white steam. He could not comprehend how an Apprentice-level boy commanded such terrifying heat beneath the water.
Before the assassin could turn to flee, Kale blurred through the fog and appeared directly behind him. He brought the pommel of his dagger down on the man's neck, knocking him unconscious onto the wet stone.
Notifications flickered rapidly across Kale's retina as the steam slowly cleared, logging the combat data and energy gains.
[The Nemesis Hydra has defeated two Peak Ravager Venomous Serpent Chimaeras.]
[Fire Core stability verified under aquatic conditions.]
[Physical agility and thermal adaptation increased.]
Kale searched the unconscious assassin's coat, retrieving a sealed jade tube from his inner pocket. Inside lay an intricate map of the capital's underground water grid, marked with several red targets pointing toward Renard's private estate.
Lazek walked over, tossing the severed blades of the other two assassins onto the stone floor. He looked at the ruined aqueduct and then at the sealed jade tube in Kale's hand.
'Dorn Morrow has chosen open warfare,' Lazek noted, his dark eyes cold and analytical. 'This map proves his faction intends to contaminate the central water supply.'
'We have the evidence we need, Master,' Kale replied flatly, storing the jade tube inside his spatial pouch.
'This map will allow Renard to dismantle House Morrow's underground networks legally,' Kale added, his tone calm and precise. 'Their political influence in the capital is effectively shattered.'
Kale walked over to the floating remains of the Azure Leviathan, which had been killed by falling debris during the explosion. He used his surgical knife to extract a pristine sample of its central water node.
The glowing blue sample hummed with pure aquatic energy, completely unaffected by the surrounding toxic sludge. Kale carefully stored the node in a sterile glass container.
With the water sample secured and Morrow's conspiracy exposed, the foundation for the Aqua Matrix was complete. Kale adjusted his headband over his hidden gold mesh, ready to return to the tower and finalise his creation.
