Chapter 1392: Chapter 690: By Any Means? Target Locked

He actually heard Luo Fei agree.

Standing to the side, Li Yu thought she’d misheard.

“Seriously, Mr. Luo, you actually just believed what that girl said?”

“It never crossed your mind she might do anything, including lying, just to get herself off the hook?”

Li Yu really found it a bit ridiculous.

Some unease also showed on her face.

But Luo Fei spoke with certainty.

“Li Yu, don’t get worked up. I roughly know what’s going on here.”

“We may have grasped part of the truth, but we don’t need to rush to expose Sun Zhiwei. Otherwise, if we do that, we’ll just startle the snake in the grass, and it could even make the other side suspicious, don’t you think?”

Luo Fei’s words left Li Yu noncommittal.

“You’re right, Mr. Luo.”

“It’s just that when I think about what that mother’s gone through, I feel awful inside.”

As Li Yu spoke, she looked a bit ashamed, baring her teeth in a wry grin.

Seeing she was a little ill at ease.

Luo Fei waved his hand.

“Li Yu, the only way we can really help that lady is to solve the case as soon as possible. Everything else is just details.”

“We don’t need to fuss too much over it, do we?”

That was how Luo Fei put it.

Leaving Li Yu again noncommittal.

“You really do have a good attitude, Mr. Luo.”

And while the two were talking.

Luo Fei received a call from Su Manying.

“Mr. Luo, just now, lawyer Yan Xueqing contacted me. She said she heard about the situation with the lady in the parking lot and is willing to help. Also, regarding the Sun family’s little secretary who was dismembered and stuffed in a freezer, I’ll bring in a dedicated legal team to investigate. There is no way we’re letting whoever did this get away.”

Su Manying was actually that worked up.

That caught Luo Fei somewhat off guard.

“Ms. Su, I didn’t expect you to take this matter so much to heart. It’s honestly a bit surprising.”

Seeing Luo Fei a little taken aback.

As if he hadn’t thought she’d care this much.

Su Manying explained patiently.

“Mr. Luo, it’s nothing.”

“Besides, speaking of this, there’s something else I want to ask you to help with. I just don’t know if you’d be willing.”

As she spoke, Su Manying sounded a bit hesitant.

Luo Fei remained noncommittal.

“Ms. Su, did you run into some serious trouble? If it’s something inconvenient to talk about over the phone, you can always speak to me in private.”

That was how Luo Fei put it.

It made Su Manying take a deep breath.

“Mr. Luo, here’s how it is. Not long ago, our company’s construction crew was digging foundations when they found a body. The victim was still wearing his original suit and watch; even his wallet was there. The impression you get is that someone deliberately put the corpse together with all those things, just so it would be found.”

As it turned out.

Su Manying had already brought in experts to examine it.

Judging from the soil around the body.

That corpse had been deliberately buried near the construction site.

“Ms. Su, you’re saying someone deliberately left the body there in order to frame someone?”

“I’m not completely sure, but I do think it’s possible. That’s why I hope you can help me investigate this. Not to mention, the deceased was an old friend of my father’s. It’s just that I know you’re already busy investigating other cases, so I feel a bit embarrassed. I don’t want to take up too much of your time for something personal.”

But seeing her look so uneasy, Luo Fei just smiled.

“How could that be, Ms. Su? We’ve known each other for so long.”

“This is nothing at all, and besides, if I can help you, I’m more than happy to.”

Luo Fei’s firm answer.

Warmed Su Manying’s heart.

“Mr. Luo, in that case, I’ll ask the dead man’s family to come see you later?”

“Sounds good, Ms. Su, then it’s settled.”

After they hung up.

Luo Fei briefed Li Yu on what had happened.

But after hearing Luo Fei’s analysis.

Li Yu grew a bit wary.

“Mr. Luo, are you sure you’re not mistaken?”

“If we let our feelings lead us and end up helping the wrong person, the consequences could be very serious.”

Luo Fei certainly understood what she meant.

She was warning him not to be swayed by emotion.

But Luo Fei just smiled.

“Li Yu, based on what you know about Su Manying, do you really think she could be a killer?”

Those words made Li Yu hesitate.

“When you put it that way, it sounds kind of reasonable.”

“But we’d better stay cautious. Otherwise, if people think we’re covering for someone, that would be a big problem.”

Ring ring ring!

Just then.

Luo Fei’s phone suddenly rang.

A moment later, a middle-aged man’s world-weary voice came through.

“Hello, officer. Are you Luo Fei, head of the Major Crimes Unit?”

The voice carried clear unease.

Luo Fei remained noncommittal.

“That’s me, sir. Are you calling to report a crime?”

“No, officer. I’m calling to turn myself in.”

Hearing that.

Luo Fei couldn’t help being surprised.

“Is that so? Which case are you turning yourself in for?”

“Officer, earlier today, a body was found at a construction site. The victim is my friend, and I admit the fact he met with this fate has a lot to do with me.”

“I also admit that his death was caused by me. I am indeed guilty. So I should be arrested by the police.”
