During lunch, the group sat at their usual spot, and for once, Faye was actually there. Faye let out a deep, relaxed breath, her chest sinking back against the chair as she leaned her elbows on the long table.

For weeks, she had hardly had any free time because of her strict study schedule, but that was finally over. She hadn’t even needed to take the exams. The vice principal, who was currently running the principal’s office since the principal was still in the hospital for certain reasons, had promoted Faye to Class 11 without requiring her to sit for the exams. The paperwork had been stamped and filed before first period, removing a massive block of stress from her life.

Thanks to her GF....

Faye had been staring at the person sitting across from her for quite some time. Her eyes narrowed into a sharp glare, her breathing turning slow and steady as she watched his fingers move rapidly across a sleek piece of glass.

That person had a new phone and had been scrolling through it the entire time. He was totally focused on the bright display, a huge grin plastered across his face as he tapped the corner.

It was her best friend, Malo.

"I can see you bought a new phone," Faye said. Her voice was flat, her fingers tapping a tight, dangerous rhythm against the side of her water bottle.

Malo looked up at Faye, smiled, and showed her the phone. He flipped the device around proudly, the clean casing catching the lights of the cafeteria ceiling.

"I gave my brother my old phone so he can easily communicate with me, and I bought the latest model. How is it?" Malo bragged. He puffed his chest out, his ribs expanding with a proud breath as he tilted the screen toward her face.

"That is a very nice upgrade. Congratulations, buddy," Faye said, her eyes still fixed on Malo instead of the phone. Her jaw was set into a hard line, her voice dropping into a low, threatening register that made the smile on the boy’s face falter for a fraction of a second.

"Congratulations, MG," Haley said. She took a quick sip from her juice box, her eyes darting between the two best friends as she felt the familiar tension starting to rise across the table.

Sasha and Henry followed with their congratulations. They muttered the words quickly, their attention already shifting away from the device.

Meanwhile, Sasha and Haley cornered Henry to ask him for more details about his past. They leaned in close over their lunch trays, their voices dropping into quiet whispers as they bombarded the boy with rapid questions, trying to catch him shifting his weight or blinking suspiciously. Henry simply sat there, his chest rising with a slow, unbothered breath as he chewed his food, his expression completely blank.

Then Faye started calling out numbers to Malo. She leaned across the table, her voice sharp and clear as she rattled off the digits one by one without stopping for air.

"What are the numbers for? Lottery numbers?" Malo asked. He blinked in confusion, his fingers pausing over his new screen.

Faye leaned in. She pressed her palms flat against the smooth surface of the table, her posture locking up as she brought her face inches away from his.

"My account number. Now that you have your phone, wire me my money," Faye said.

"Really? I thought you had forgotten about the money." Malo squeaked, his voice dropping an octave as his heart gave a sudden, nervous thud behind his ribs.

"You’ve got to be fucking kidding me. It’s a million! Who forgets that much digits? Even if it were just a thousand, a deal is a deal." Faye spat the words out through her teeth, her breathing turning fast and shallow as her eyes flared with absolute fury.

"You really don’t have to say the amount out loud. What if somebody hears? It’ll become a problem because we’ll have to explain how we got that kind of money in the first place," Malo said, lowering his voice. He shot a frantic look around the crowded cafeteria, his shoulders hunching up toward his ears as he tried to look as small as possible in his chair.

"You keep saying it like we’re criminals or money launderers. We didn’t do anything bad to earn the money." Faye snapped back, though she lowered her volume just enough so the nearby tables wouldn’t catch on to their conversation.

"Yes, we didn’t. But sometimes it’s good to act poor to avoid unnecessary questions. Cough, cough... Princess," Malo said.

"Don’t you dare bring my girlfriend into this conversation. I’m still angry that you dragged me into that stupid mess yesterday. How dare you tell Princess that I met a Lycan?" Faye asked. She growled the accusation, her hand clenching into a tight fist against the tabletop...

"Dude, it’s Princess Kiny, for crying out loud. When that girl suspects something, it’s very hard for her to stop thinking about it. First, she gathers clues, and one of them is you chasing a Lycan’s limo with her sports car. If I hadn’t told her, Princess would’ve eventually found out and put you in an even tougher situation. And when it comes to lying, Faye, you’re an F-plus," Malo replied. His fingers moved quickly over his screen, his breath coming out in short, nervous puffs as he tried to justify his panic from the day before.

"How is it my fault that I blink when I lie? You have no idea what kind of situation you’ve put me in. I hate to be the type of girlfriend who lies to or keeps secrets from her partner... and I’ve become one." Faye said, her voice cracking slightly with a sudden, heavy wave of guilt. She slumped back into her chair, her chest rising and falling with a long, miserable sigh as she thought about Princess’s dull eyes from last night.

"I’m sorry about that, but we have no choice. If we tell Princess about the contract, she’ll stick her nose into it and make it obvious, and we don’t want to find out why Prince Arthur said no Alphas." Malo muttered, his face turning serious as he finally stopped scrolling. He looked at her with a raw, genuine worry in his eyes, the gravity of the blood oath settling between them once again.

"Whatever. Just send me my money." Faye sighed, waving her hand dismissively through the air.

Malo completed the transfer and sent Faye her money. His thumb gave one final, firm tap on the glass screen, the phone letting out a soft chime to confirm the transaction was done.

"Good. Thank you. Also, I have plans with my girlfriend this Saturday, so either you change the date or you go by yourself," Faye announced.

She grabbed her water bottle and stood up from the table, as she ready herself to leave the table, leaving Malo staring up at her in absolute shock.
