Chapter 423: Dumbass

Chloe Sinclair was confused, staring blankly at the woman before her.

She glanced down at her clothes and shoes.

’Do I really look that bad?’

Since Chloe Sinclair was often out and about, most of her clothes were loose and comfortable.

Compared to the woman with her flawless makeup, Chloe did look a little disheveled.

’But what does this have to do with Jasper Shaw’s taste in women?’

’How did a woman like this get hired?’

Chloe Sinclair gave the woman a skeptical look and took a deep breath. "If you have a problem, you can take it up with Assistant Winters."

Seeing how composed Chloe Sinclair was, the woman’s confidence wavered.

’Could it be? Is this woman really involved with the boss?’

’But I never heard anything about the boss having a girlfriend before I started here.’

The woman’s name was Gloria Reynolds. A recent graduate from Summerside University, she had just joined the Shaw Group a few days ago.

Graduating from a prestigious university and landing a job at a top-30 global corporation right after had, naturally, given her an air of arrogance.

Furthermore, as a secretarial assistant, her starting point was much higher than others, so she carried herself with an air of superiority.

The only thing was, she had never actually been to the CEO’s office.

When the rare opportunity to deliver documents came up today, she had snatched it without a second thought. She was hoping for a chance to interact with the CEO, figuring that if he took a liking to her, she might get a promotion, a raise, and become his personal secretary.

But when she walked in, not only was the CEO nowhere to be seen, there was another woman in his office.

’And a pretty one, at that.’

For some reason, she felt a flicker of threat.

"I’ve never heard anything about the boss having a girlfriend. You’d better leave, or I’m calling security."

Chloe Sinclair: "...Are you some kind of rare specimen?"

"What did you just say?"

Gloria Reynolds didn’t immediately understand what Chloe Sinclair meant.

But she knew it wasn’t a compliment.

"Miss, Jasper Shaw and I have already announced our relationship online. If you’re unaware, feel free to look it up."

The words had barely left Chloe Sinclair’s lips when another knock sounded at the door.

The door clicked open, and Ian Winters walked in.

Ian Winters gave Chloe Sinclair a gentle nod, then his gaze fell on Gloria Reynolds’s unpleasant expression. He frowned. "Gloria, what are you doing here?"

Only then did he sense the tense atmosphere between the two women.

It was more like a one-sided hostility, all coming from Gloria.

"Miss Sinclair, is there anything else you need? If so, you can ask one of the secretaries or assistants outside to get it for you."

Chloe Sinclair shook her head. "No, thank you. I was just about to leave."

She looked at the breathless Ian Winters, her eyes filled with confusion. "Weren’t you in a meeting with Jasper? Why are you back all of a sudden?"

"The boss forgot something. He sent me back to copy a file for him."

’And I walked in on this scene.’

Chloe Sinclair quickly stood up. "Here, you use the computer."

Ian Winters didn’t stand on ceremony.

He was clearly in a hurry. He plugged in a flash drive, and after copying the file, he asked, "Miss Sinclair, did you need the computer?"

Chloe Sinclair: "Yes, there’s a file I need to check."

"Then please, go ahead."

Hearing this, Gloria Reynolds’s heart sank. She said indignantly, "Secretary Winters, that’s the CEO’s computer! It’s full of confidential business information. How can you just let..."

Gloria Reynolds suddenly faltered. She realized she didn’t even know the woman’s name.

She trailed off, leaving the sentence unfinished.

But Ian Winters shot her a death glare. "If you’re so concerned, then what are *you* doing in this office?"
