From the Metropolis to the Strongest in the Cosmos
Chapter 379: An Existence Beyond the Ruler
Li Yang was utterly shocked.
Even for a powerful race like the Human Race, the fall of a single Emperor would cause a huge commotion, but now, a total of five had appeared before him!
Five Emperors had fallen. If news of this got out, it would cause a massive sensation!
The largest of the five giant beasts was a life form with rock-like, gray skin and a pair of purple wings sprouting from its back.
It had four eyes, each pair a different color. They were wide open, radiating an incredibly violent aura.
Its Evil Qi was far stronger than that of the other four beasts, a clear sign of its immense power.
Yet, a trace of terror was visible in the eyes of all these giant beasts.
'How did these Emperor Level giant beasts die?' Li Yang wondered.
These five giant beasts were clearly from different races, and there were no signs of a battle. It seemed they had all encountered something terrifying, then died instantly, completely unable to resist.
'To be able to kill five Emperors... could an Overlord have been involved?' Numerous thoughts raced through Li Yang's mind.
After a moment of shock, Li Yang's consciousness continued to explore. What he found next was even more staggering.
Inside the black bead, it wasn't just the five giant beasts. There were twenty-one other beings from various great races, and even an expert from the Human Race!
The auras emanating from these beings were all no weaker than those of the first five beasts.
In other words, all of them had likely been at the Emperor Level when they were alive!
Twenty-six experts of the Emperor Level in total. Their corpses were all here, turning the space within the black bead into a graveyard of Emperors.
'What in the world is this?' Li Yang was completely stunned, unable to believe his eyes.
"Li Yang, you've entered the black bead with your soul? What's inside?" At that moment, Soul Ink's voice reached him.
His own soul couldn't enter the black bead.
Hearing Soul Ink's question, Li Yang withdrew his consciousness and said, "The black bead is filled with the corpses of Emperors."
"Emperor corpses?"
Soul Ink sounded somewhat astonished at Li Yang's words.
He questioned him in detail. Upon learning there were twenty-six Emperor bodies inside the black bead, he couldn't help but ask, "Is the space inside this black bead some kind of Emperor battlefield? How could so many Emperors have fallen?"
There have been incidents in the Cosmos where a large number of Emperors fell at once, but such events are rare. After all, they are immensely powerful. Most would not provoke them and would keep their distance.
As for top-tier experts deliberately slaughtering the weak—for instance, an Overlord suddenly descending upon a gathering of Emperors to go on a rampage—those Emperors would naturally have no power to resist and would be swiftly killed.
However, something like that is virtually impossible. Such an act would be condemned by all races; not even the Human Race or the Demon Race would stoop so low.
If you slaughter the weak of my race, I'll slaughter the weak of yours. If everyone started killing like that, the entire Cosmos would likely descend into utter chaos.
No matter how much hatred has accumulated from the endless fighting and slaughter between the great races, some rules must still be observed.
Therefore, Overlord-level experts almost never appear on a battlefield of Emperor Level experts.
Slightly puzzled, Soul Ink didn't dwell on it. While it was rare for so many Emperors to fall at once, it wasn't impossible.
Instead, a glint appeared in Soul Ink's eyes. He urged, "Li Yang, check if those Emperors have any treasures on them! Are their armor and weapons still there? Those weapons are priceless artifacts!"
To him, the fact that these Emperors had fallen was inconsequential. Dead was dead. What truly mattered were the treasures they left behind.
It was perfectly normal in the Cosmos for top experts of the great races to kill each other and seize their treasures.
"Armor and weapons?" Li Yang snapped out of his daze.
An expert's weapons were almost always their most valuable possessions. For instance, a single Sacred Artifact belonging to an Emperor was likely worth more than all their other wealth combined.
Li Yang's consciousness quickly scanned the area.
'Huh? The weapons and armor have all lost their power?' Li Yang felt a flicker of confusion.
One could normally sense the power of a weapon with ease. But now, he could feel that the weapons on these fallen Emperors had all lost their potency. There wasn't a single ripple of energy from them; they were even weaker than a Tier One Divine Weapon.
He reported his findings to Soul Ink.
"Li Yang, you're saying all the weapons have become useless?"
Soul Ink was also very surprised to hear this. "Strange. Even an Overlord couldn't possibly drain the power from all those weapons. Could it be an even more powerful being?"
"A more powerful being?" Li Yang asked curiously. "Soul Ink, is there something even stronger than an Overlord?"
"Of course,"
Soul Ink's tone grew solemn. "Li Yang, why do you think the Star Moon Race, which has an Overlord of its own, still clings to and fears the Human Race? It's because the Human Race has beings who have surpassed the Overlord level. An existence of that caliber, even just one, can instantly elevate a race to the very top of the Cosmos!"
'Beyond the Overlords!' Li Yang's mind reeled with shock. It was impossible to even imagine what such a being would be like.
Amid his shock, a look of excitement appeared in Li Yang's eyes.
He was a member of the Human Race, and he was naturally delighted to learn of its true power.
"What a shame that the treasures are all useless. Otherwise, with twenty-six Emperors, we could have probably found several Sacred Artifacts," Soul Ink lamented.
Li Yang wasn't as concerned about the treasure. After a moment of thought, he decided to look up the facial features of the Human Race expert from the bead to see if he could identify them.
After entering the data, a result quickly appeared.
"Human Race Branch: Stone Moon Race."
'The Stone Moon Race?' Li Yang thought.
He knew the Human Race had various branches, like the Dragon-man Race, the Ape Race, and the Snake-man Race. Those were some of the more well-known branches.
Many other branches were far less renowned. The Stone Moon Race, for example, was not well-known at all; this was the first time Li Yang had ever heard of them.
Li Yang reviewed the information and ran a search on what powerful experts the Stone Moon Race had produced.
Thanks to his access from reaching the twelfth step of the Human Race's Path of Deities, he could look up a vast amount of information.
"Found it!"
Li Yang focused on one entry.
"The Stone Moon Race once produced a powerful Emperor named Celestial Moon. The Celestial Moon Emperor was one of the early Emperor-level experts of our Human Race, but he disappeared five quadrillion years ago and is presumed to have fallen..."
More details appeared one after another.
'The Celestial Moon Emperor disappeared five quadrillion years ago?' A look of utter shock appeared in Li Yang's eyes as he read the message.
