From Evil Sect Leader to Doctor
Chapter 943 - 909: Awkward Situation
The masked man was shot dead, his body falling straight to the ground.
Che Shixiong leaped up like an enraged lion, the brick in his hand fiercely hitting one of the assailants in the face. Che Shixiong had immense strength, and with added fury, the impact was powerful enough to shatter stones. The opponent’s head was severely hit, the entire face flattened by Che Shixiong’s brick, and the inside of the head was a shattered mess; there was no way he could survive.
The remaining assailant didn’t expect such a sudden reversal of the situation. He turned and ran, but Che Shixiong wouldn’t let him escape, raising the brick and smashing it toward the back of his head.
Whizz!
The arrow came even faster, piercing through the assailant’s back before the brick made contact.
Che Shixiong turned back to Jin Xin Hui’s side, shielding her behind him.
In the darkness, a woman holding a compound bow appeared before them. She wore a night suit, with a black mask revealing only her eyes. She glanced at the three corpses on the ground and softly said, "Help me get these three bodies into the car."
Although Che Shixiong didn’t know the woman’s identity, he was well aware that if not for her, he and Jin Xin Hui wouldn’t have escaped death.
The woman’s figure vanished into the dark, and shortly afterward, she drove up in a moving truck. Taking advantage of the night, Che Shixiong helped load the three bodies onto the vehicle.
The woman whispered, "Clean up the scene as much as possible without leaving any traces, then contact Xu Chunliang and tell him about what happened tonight. He should have a way to help you escape the pursuit."
The shock-stricken Jin Xin Hui finally managed to regain a bit of composure and whispered, "Who are you? Why are you helping us?"
The woman glanced at Jin Xin Hui and started the car: "Xu Chunliang asked me to help you. Remember, do not call the police, or you’ll only get into more trouble." She said this and drove away from the scene.
Che Shixiong and Jin Xin Hui cleaned up the scene. They dared not stay for long and, as per the woman’s instructions, called Xu Chunliang.
Xu Chunliang had just arrived at the hospital entrance when he received the call.
Che Shixiong recounted what had happened to him.
Hearing this, Xu Chunliang was taken aback, immediately thinking of Lexus. This group was truly lawless, daring to commit murder and arson here, as if they thought themselves rulers of the universe.
Xu Chunliang asked, "Are you okay?"
Che Shixiong replied, "We’re fine for now, thanks to Mr. Xu’s people secretly protecting us, otherwise we wouldn’t have escaped this disaster."
Xu Chunliang immediately understood that the one who saved them was undoubtedly Bai Lan. No wonder she sought his collaboration; outwardly it seemed she was doing him a favor, but she was actually sharing the trouble with him. Yet, he still needed to help Che Shixiong with his predicament.
He thought for a moment and said, "Alright, I’ll find a safe place for you."
Xu Chunliang quickly contacted Hua Zhuyue, aiming to ensure the safety of Che Shixiong and Jin Xin Hui. Bai Lan didn’t want the police involved for good reason; they had dealt with three Peninsula hitmen just tonight, and if the police found out, it would undeniably be a constant headache.
An organization represented by Liu Haiyu was also investigating this matter, and they should find a way to pressure Mingde Group through Lao Liu.
Hua Zhuyue soon provided Xu Chunliang with an address, instructing Che Shixiong to go there. Someone would be waiting to receive them.
While Xu Chunliang was making calls, Fu Guomin had already gone to the hospital and found out that Zhao Feiyang was in the emergency surgery department. He had two large gashes on his head, stitched nine times, with a broken rib on the left side.
He was currently heading to the radiology department for a CT scan, to check if there were any brain injuries.
When Xu Chunliang and Fu Guomin arrived at the emergency CT room, Zhao Feiyang had just entered. Xu Ying was waiting outside, and upon seeing them, Xu Ying quickly stood up: "The police just came by, and I explained the situation to them."
Fu Guomin asked, "Don’t worry, how’s his injury?"
Xu Ying replied, "The doctor said it’s not too serious, just a broken rib, which might need some recovery time."
Xu Chunliang asked about the characteristics of the assailant, and Xu Ying described them, recalling that she’d taken some photos and showed them. The photos were blurry and barely had any clear faces, but the license plate was captured.
Fu Guomin said, "It’s enough to have the license plate; the police can check it out, and with surveillance everywhere, they won’t get away."
Xu Chunliang thought, you probably don’t know about using fake plates, right? These people wouldn’t be foolish enough to drive a legally registered car to make an attack. There’s also the possibility the car was stolen.
At that moment, Qiao Rulong arrived with two friends. Xu Chunliang understood immediately that it must have been Zhao Feiyang who contacted Qiao Rulong. He was Qiao Rulong’s savior, and in this situation, Qiao Rulong had to step in both emotionally and rationally.
Since Qiao Rulong has stepped in, there’s nothing more for them to do. With Qiao Rulong’s connections in Capital City, it’s not difficult to get to the bottom of this. Xu Chunliang and the others really don’t need to get involved, and even if they do intervene, Zhao Feiyang may not appreciate it.
Although Xu Chunliang didn’t want to interact with Qiao Rulong, it would be impolite to not greet him once they met, especially since he’s the brother of his ex-girlfriend. He took the initiative and greeted, "President Qiao!"
Qiao Rulong nodded perfunctorily, not even bothering to look directly at Xu Chunliang.
Fu Guomin saw how Xu Chunliang was treated and refrained from asking for trouble himself. Having worked at the Beijing Office for many years, he had encountered some offspring of officials and understood the intrinsic arrogance of this class, knowing that they had no interest in dealing with people like them.
Qiao Rulong, however, was very polite to Xu Ying: "Miss Xu, how is Feiyang doing?"
Xu Ying replied, "He just went in, we don’t know the results yet."
Qiao Rulong turned to someone on his left, who was the dean of this hospital, and accompanied Qiao Rulong into the CT scan room.
Xu Ying felt a bit embarrassed, as she had called Xu Chunliang and Fu Guomin over, resulting in an awkward scene. She knew the relationship between Xu Chunliang and Qiao Rulong, but she hadn’t anticipated that after Xu Chunliang and Mei Ru Xue broke up, his relationship with Qiao Rulong would become completely frigid. She had witnessed Qiao Rulong’s attitude toward Xu Chunliang earlier.
With Xu Chunliang’s temper, he didn’t want to stay a moment longer, but Fu Guomin thought that since they were here, they should at least meet Zhao Feiyang. After all, they had dinner together, and since one person got beaten, the others bear some responsibility and should at least extend their regards.
Not long after, a driver pushed Zhao Feiyang out of the examination room. For the driver, it was a brand new experience as he was used to driving four-wheeled vehicles to escort leaders, but today was his first time pushing a two-wheeler.
Zhao Feiyang had bandages wrapped around his head, looking terribly disheveled with a bruised nose and swollen face. Upon seeing him like this, Xu Chunliang felt not pity but rather an inexplicable amusement. Weren’t you so arrogant before? You’ve been beaten, haven’t you? When the heavens are wild, it rains; when people are wild, disasters strike—karma, this is karma indeed!
Xu Chunliang felt satisfaction inside, but on the surface, he put on a pained expression and asked, "Oh dear, Dean Zhao, what happened to you? Who the hell did this? Tell me, and I’ll help you get even."
Zhao Feiyang thought to himself that this guy was definitely up to no good, probably finding pleasure in his misery. He also wondered why Xu Ying had called him here. Was it to mock him? However, he also realized that if Xu Chunliang hadn’t left earlier, he might not have ended up being beaten so severely. Xu Chunliang was known to be capable of fighting, and he likely wouldn’t stand idly by.
Fu Guomin asked, "Feiyang, do you have any enemies in Capital City?"
Zhao Feiyang replied, "I don’t know either. I haven’t offended anyone in Capital City." However, he thought to himself, if he did have any grudges, Xu Chunliang would be one, but it didn’t seem likely that Xu Chunliang would stoop so low as to have someone beat him up.
Xu Chunliang feigned concern and said, "Don’t think about that for now. Are you alright?"
Zhao Feiyang replied, "One rib is broken, everything else is just... superficial injuries..." He said this much and felt a bit of pain in his left chest.
Xu Ying, seeing his expression of pain, felt some sympathy and said, "Let’s not ask questions now, we’ll know once the report comes out."
While they were talking, Qiao Rulong came out with two other people. He introduced Zhao Feiyang, mentioning that the short, plump one was the hospital’s dean and the tall, dark one was Director Wang of the district police station where the incident occurred.
Fu Guomin secretly sighed. This is what connections are like. People like Qiao Rulong live in a completely different world from them, so ordinary people shouldn’t expect to break into their circle. Even if they managed to, they wouldn’t be welcomed.
The dean told Zhao Feiyang that his head was fine, the most serious injury was the fractured rib, but since it hadn’t shifted, no surgery was needed. With proper rest, he could recover.
Zhao Feiyang, being in the medical field himself, immediately understood upon hearing this that it would probably take two to three months of rest for him to fully recover from this injury.
Director Wang assured Zhao Feiyang that the main team had been sent to investigate the assault case and promised to apprehend the attackers and bring them to justice as soon as possible.
Director Wang asked the same question as Fu Guomin, "Dean Zhao, do you have any enemies in Capital City?"
Zhao Feiyang instinctively glanced at Xu Chunliang, and seeing this, others also looked at Xu Chunliang.
Xu Chunliang cursed inwardly, wondering why Zhao Feiyang was looking at him. If he truly wanted to beat him up, would he need to hire someone?
Zhao Feiyang said, "Not in Capital City, but it’s impossible not to offend anyone in hospital management."
Xu Chunliang deliberately reminded him, "Dean Zhao, I heard that you’ve been having conflicts with the high-level executives of Huayuan Group recently. Maybe they should be investigated more closely?"
Zhao Feiyang, with his mind still dazed from the assault, thought it over and realized it was indeed possible. He had been having a disagreement with the Tang Brothers lately, and Qiao Rulong had helped him bring in Jishi Medical Investment Co., Ltd. to acquire Changxing Shares owned by Huayuan Group.
Huayuan Group wasn’t unwilling to sell, but Jishi Medical Investment Co., Ltd. was using various means to pressure them into lowering their prices. After all, with Zhao Feiyang as an insider, the Tang Brothers viewed him as a traitor, and it wasn’t unlikely that they might hire someone to vent their frustration on him.
Qiao Rulong said, "No matter who it is, daring to do such a thing in Capital City is utterly reckless and must be pursued to the end."
