Chapter 1019: Chapter 984: Coward

Tang Jingwei glanced around the office. He had been here before and remembered that time, when he sat in Zhao Feiyang’s executive chair while Zhao Feiyang stood by, listening to his guidance.

But now, although Zhao Feiyang stood up as well, he had no intention of leaving his original position. Tang Jingwei was no longer his boss, so he didn’t need to give up his seat.

Tang Jingwei didn’t sit down; instead, he walked toward the window, gazing at the Phase II construction site that was about to be topped off.

Zhao Feiyang hesitated for a moment, but finally approached, handing a bottle of water to Tang Jingwei: “President Tang, have some water.”

Tang Jingwei glanced at it but didn’t take it, saying indifferently, “My stomach hasn’t been well recently; I can’t have anything cold.”

Zhao Feiyang said, “Let me make you a cup of tea instead, how about some Longjing?”

“No need to trouble yourself.”

Tang Jingwei sized up Zhao Feiyang, who had recovered well. Back then, he insisted that his son was the one who had arranged for someone to attack him. Now his wounds had healed, yet his own son had left this world forever. Fate is just so unfair.

It was less than a month since Tang Tianyi’s suicide, and the stabbing incident involving Pan Weidong at the East Ming Street market had just passed. These two matters were inextricably linked to Zhao Feiyang, and it was impossible to claim they hadn’t affected him at all.

Changxing Hospital had changed ownership, and Zhao Feiyang and Tang Jingwei were no longer in a host-guest relationship. In this transfer deal, Zhao Feiyang was the beneficiary.

When he last met Tang Jingwei, it was Tang Jingwei coming to the hotel to discuss his son’s matter and seek Zhao Feiyang’s understanding. So much had happened in the past month.

Zhao Feiyang had undergone a significant change in mentality; like a child who had punched someone and was constantly wary of retaliation, his heart was filled with anxiety and unease. He even suspected that Tang Jingwei had orchestrated the revenge on Pan Weidong. If that were the case, Tang Jingwei would indeed be too dangerous.

Zhao Feiyang asked again, “President Tang, why have you come to find me?”

Tang Jingwei said, “Nothing special. I happened to be handling affairs in Dongzhou and thought I should come to say goodbye to you in person. Although we didn’t hold out until the end, we did have a collaboration of sorts—a rare destiny in life.”

Zhao Feiyang said, “President Tang is right. Although Changxing has transferred, I still consider President Tang as a mentor and elder brother.”

Tang Jingwei laughed lightly, “I haven’t taught you anything. On the contrary, I’ve learned quite a bit from you.”

Zhao Feiyang’s heart sank, but his demeanor remained calm, “President Tang is too humble.”

Tang Jingwei said, “It’s not humility, just the truth. I handed over Changxing Hospital to you for management, providing you with the best possible conditions. I believe I’ve never treated you unfairly. As the saying goes, once entrusted, one should remain loyal. I overvalued the word ‘loyalty’.”

Zhao Feiyang’s facial expression became somewhat stiff as he thought to himself, what right do you have to accuse me of disloyalty? It was you who first suspected me, using despicable means to threaten Pei Lin, attempting to control me through her. If it weren’t for you two brothers, Pei Lin wouldn’t have been driven to despair, and my son wouldn’t have lost his mother at birth.

Tang Jingwei chuckled, “Wise birds choose proper perch, I have nothing more to say. But in the end, one must have principles. Do you think changing shareholders at Changxing will lead them to favor you? Will they support you wholeheartedly? Will they trust you without reservation?”

Tang Jingwei shook his head and said, “No, the moment you lose your value is when they will kick you aside.”

Zhao Feiyang said, “President Tang, I think you misunderstand me. I have never betrayed the interests of the group. I believe I’ve been faithful to Changxing and the trust of the directors.”

Tang Jingwei said, “I know you somewhat. In the past, you never thought that way, but after Pei Lin’s death, you started to view me as your imagined enemy. You hate me; you want to get back at me.”

Zhao Feiyang said, “That’s not true.”

“Coward!” Tang Jingwei looked coldly at Zhao Feiyang, his gaze filled with disdain.

Zhao Feiyang chuckled softly, “President Tang, I understand your intent now. It seems you’ve placed the blame for your failures and misfortunes on me.”

Tang Jingwei said, “Shouldn’t I blame you? I handed over Changxing Hospital to you, and you’ve run it into this state. The beating had nothing to do with my son, yet you misled the police, causing my son to be imprisoned. You teamed up with outsiders to suppress Changxing’s sale price. I compromised, but you still wouldn’t relent and ended up causing my son’s death!”

“I did not!”

Tang Jingwei nodded: “You probably didn’t, because you neither have the guts nor the ability, but you can’t guarantee others didn’t. Jishi Medical Investment Co., Ltd.? Qi Shuang, Pan Weidong, do you know what the real relationship is among them?”

Zhao Feiyang said, “The acquisition procedures for Changxing were legal and proper. Before the acquisition, I had no private dealings with them. I did not betray Changxing’s interests.”

Tang Jingwei clicked his tongue and said, “I really overestimated you, you can’t even compare to Pei Lin. Did you really think you had any capability? If you weren’t the director of Changxing Hospital back then, if you didn’t have some background, I would never have used you. Do you really think you could lead Changxing to grow and expand? You’re a typical example of mistaking the platform for ability. The reason I put you in the director’s position back then was because you could bring me benefits, not because of any skill you had. Your biggest skill is sacrificing the group’s interests to achieve your own.”

Zhao Feiyang’s heart was trembling violently, and his hands began to shake. He thought Tang Jingwei had angered him, but when he tried to erupt, he realized it wasn’t anger at all, but fear.

Tang Jingwei wasn’t done with him yet, and he stepped forward with a sneer. Zhao Feiyang involuntarily stepped back.

“Do you think becoming Qiao Rulong’s savior means he’ll help you? You’ve underestimated the cold-bloodedness of their class, Zhao Feiyang. Do you still not see yourself clearly? The person who saved Qiao Rulong was Pei Lin, not you. You’re just a leech, first sucking your parents’ blood and enjoying the shade of your ancestors, now eating blood buns and enjoying the benefits of a deceased wife. How can someone like you have the face to live in this world?”

Zhao Feiyang’s face turned crimson red. Tang Jingwei’s words were like poisonous arrows hitting directly into his heart. He had never been subjected to such vicious attacks in his life, and he couldn’t refute it. He pointed to the office door: “Get out, get out!”

Tang Jingwei clearly sensed the weakness and powerlessness in Zhao Feiyang’s voice. He sighed and said, “Actually, you already understand it in your heart, but you just refuse to accept it, refuse to admit you’re a failure. The more you do this, the more desperately you try to prove yourself. You’re well aware that the one who beat you up in the Capital City wasn’t someone my son arranged. You know you’ve been used, but you don’t dare face the truth because you’re scared of it. The truth is too cruel. In Qiao Rulong’s eyes, you’re just a pawn he’s using.”

“Enough!” Zhao Feiyang yelled explosively.

Tang Jingwei lightly poked Zhao Feiyang’s chest with his finger: “The one who needs a heart transplant is you. Don’t be afraid. I won’t retaliate against you. I’m not as foolish as you to waste energy on a coward.”

Zhao Feiyang said, “Tang Jingwei, you’re going too far.”

Tang Jingwei said, “Compared to what you’ve done to me, I’m not going too far at all. There might be something you don’t know. From the start of Hua Nian’s investment in Changxing, I’ve given you a lot of signing authority. Can you guarantee that every transaction you’ve signed off on is clean?”

Zhao Feiyang’s face suddenly turned pale.

Tang Jingwei said, “I paid you so much salary, bonuses, each with a fallback. Do you think all of that was legitimate, post-tax income?”

“You…”

Tang Jingwei sneered, “I have many ways to deal with you. If I wanted, I could ruin you with just a little effort.”

Zhao Feiyang swallowed hard, his Adam’s apple bobbing exaggeratedly, his heart full of fear. He ultimately underestimated the shamelessness of businessmen. Was Tang Jingwei trying to ruin him?

Tang Jingwei lightly patted his shoulder and said, “Don’t be afraid, I won’t move against you. Trash like you is best left for the enemy.” After saying this, he left the devastated Zhao Feiyang and walked toward the door, but stopped and said in a deep voice without looking back, “The actual controller of Jishi Medical Investment Co., Ltd., Qi Shuang, is Qiao Rulong’s lover. She has a son who is Qiao Rulong’s. Qi Shuang is the illegitimate daughter of He Dong CEO, Pan Tianhua. Pan Weidong is her half-brother. I bet Qiao Rulong never told you about this.”

After saying this, Tang Jingwei opened the door and walked out.

Zhao Feiyang was covered in cold sweat, his chest heaving violently from rapid breathing.

The lethal words, today Tang Jingwei came for the mind, he clearly sought revenge, using the cruelest language.

Zhao Feiyang’s heart couldn’t calm down for a long time. He returned to his executive chair and sank into it, opened a drawer to grab a cigarette, and saw his fingers trembling.

His trembling hand pulled out a cigarette, and he lit it with shaking lips.

Even though Tang Jingwei had left, his words still echoed in Zhao Feiyang’s mind, coward! Useless! Foolish!

Zhao Feiyang painfully rubbed his head. Never in his life had he associated these words with himself. Rising to success from a young age, he was idealistic, ambitious. He wanted to develop Changxing Hospital through hard work, he wanted…

Tang Jingwei’s cruelty shattered the self-image Zhao Feiyang had carefully constructed, confronting him with the bloody truth that everything he now possessed was built on blood money.

Tang Jingwei, a total failure, what right do you have to blame me? Zhao Feiyang inhaled deeply on his cigarette, as a dull ache lingered in his heart. He thought of Qiao Rulong; the friendship he offered seemed genuine. Even if Jishi Medical Investment Co., Ltd.’s background is Qi Shuang, without Jishi’s investment, he would still be under Tang Jingwei’s shadow.
