A million thoughts flashed through Wu Sheng’s mind in that instant. Looking at Su Li’s smiling face, he couldn’t help but pinch her cheek, giving it a light, punitive squeeze.

Wu Sheng didn’t say these words out loud, but Su Li understood. She understood everything.

She let Wu Sheng pinch her cheek, her smile never wavering, as she reached out and cupped his face.

"I trust you. I’m not scared. I’m not scared at all."

’With Wu Sheng by my side, what do I have to be afraid of? I trust him.’

The hand Wu Sheng was using to pinch Su Li’s cheek had, without him realizing, softened into a caress, cupping her face.

He gently caressed her soft cheek, gazing at his own reflection in the eyes of Su Li, who tilted her head up slightly. He wished he could lose himself right then and there in her gentle, smiling eyes.

They had known each other for so long and were so familiar with one another, yet whenever Su Li looked at him like this, he couldn’t help but be completely captivated.

"There you go with your sweet talk again. Every time I try to hold you accountable, you use this trick to get away with it."

Wu Sheng murmured.

The smile in Su Li’s eyes deepened. Her cheeks were flushed, but she couldn’t resist raising both hands to his face, gently wiping away the specks of dust from his cheeks.

"I’m not trying to get away with anything. Everything I said is true. I trust you. Besides, if you hadn’t caught that lighter, I would’ve had even more reason to rush forward."

"I want to stand with you through thick and thin. If something really happened to you, and I had to live on alone..."

Wu Sheng’s heart trembled violently. "Su Li, you..."

He couldn’t believe it. He couldn’t believe Su Li would say something like that.

"What do you mean, ’you’? Even if I didn’t say it, couldn’t you tell?"

Su Li smiled. "When you came back injured from Wucheng, that’s what I was thinking as I waited outside the operating room."

"That’s when I truly understood what you mean to me."

Su Li took Wu Sheng’s hand. "It’s not that I can’t live without you. If you were gone, I would still go on living."

"But I wouldn’t be happy. Living like that... is worse than facing everything with you. So, Wu Sheng, you have to remember this. From now on, I’ll be just like I was today. I won’t back down. So... so you have to take care of yourself. Be with me for a long, long time. So long that I get sick of the sight of you."

Su Li should have been happy, but for some reason, her eyes began to burn.

So she threw her arms around Wu Sheng, hugging him tightly.

After what happened last time Wu Sheng came back, she understood this feeling even more deeply.

But knowing was one thing. This was the first time she had directly witnessed Wu Sheng getting hurt, and even now, the memory terrified her.

She didn’t want Wu Sheng to get hurt. Not even a little.

Su Li didn’t say the rest, but Wu Sheng understood completely.

His hands trembled slightly. He took two deep breaths and wrapped his arms around Su Li. "I will. I will."

He wasn’t alone anymore. He knew Su Li would follow him without hesitation, that she wouldn’t retreat, so of course, he would be more careful. Extra careful.

Listening to the strong, steady beat of Wu Sheng’s heart and smelling the faint, strange odor on him, Su Li gradually calmed down.

Once she had calmed down, she thought back to how Wu Sheng had looked just now and couldn’t help but laugh out loud.

"Wu Sheng, if you told me right now that you’d mastered some lost martial arts technique, like qinggong or something, I wouldn’t even doubt you."

Wu Sheng, still basking in Su Li’s sweet words, was dumbfounded. "..."

’Huh? What the heck?’

Seeing Wu Sheng’s stupefied expression, Su Li giggled.

After she finished laughing, she heard Ling Zhen’s muffled chuckle, and Su Li herself froze.

’Wait... we’re in a public place with people coming and going... and I was just shamelessly hugging and cuddling Wu Sheng like that...’

When Su Li realized this, her face instantly turned beet red, and she shoved Wu Sheng away.

Poor Wu Sheng was completely unprepared and was pushed so hard he nearly fell on his butt.

"What’s wrong?" Wu Sheng asked, finally steadying himself.

"Why didn’t you remind me where we are? So many people... This is so embarrassing."

Su Li muttered under her breath. Though it sounded like she was scolding him, it was more like pouting.

Wu Sheng glanced around. Everyone nearby seemed to be earnestly busy, but he could tell it was all an act. Their eyes were all fixed on them.

Some of them could at least maintain a serious facade, but others made no such effort. Ling Zhen was covering her mouth, trying to hide her laughter. The rest were either feigning busyness or staring up at the sky, but their darting eyes gave them away.

’So, we really did put on quite a show for everyone.’

The corners of Wu Sheng’s mouth quirked up. ’Su Li might be embarrassed, but I actually feel great about this.’

’What’s there to be embarrassed about? They’re probably all just jealous!’

"It’s fine, it’s fine. They didn’t notice," Wu Sheng said, offering a kind but completely dishonest reassurance.

"Get outta here," Su Li couldn’t help but snap.

’Everyone’s got perfectly good eyes. How could they not see two big lumps like us hugging like that?’

’Most importantly... I wonder if anyone heard what I said just now. If they did, I just... I can’t face anyone ever again!’

Su Li was blushing furiously. Seeing this, Wu Sheng reached for her hand.

"Stop grabbing me." Su Li shook his hand off and was about to walk away when she suddenly heard a pitiful voice from the side.

"I’m not the one grabbing! She’s the one who’s been holding on to me and won’t let go."

Su Li frowned and looked over, spotting Wa Wa Lian.

Wa Wa Lian was the one who had spoken. He was standing by the ambulance with a miserable expression, his baby face scrunched up like a meat-filled bun.

"What’s going on?" Su Li asked, curious.

"That teacher is holding on to him and won’t let go." Wu Sheng understood with a single glance. He explained to Su Li before calling out,

"Zhang Ming, just go with them."

Wa Wa Lian glanced back at his boss, then down at the hem of his shirt, and resignedly climbed into the vehicle.

The homeroom teacher, Xiao Hong, had been rescued by Wa Wa Lian and his team. Wa Wa Lian was the first to rush in, and the moment Teacher Xiao Hong saw him, she reflexively grabbed the hem of his shirt.

After that, the elementary school students were all put in ambulances and sent to the hospital. Xiao Hong was the last one out. She passed out as soon as she saw the driver.

Unfortunately, even after she fainted, she still wouldn’t let go of Wa Wa Lian’s shirt. Wa Wa Lian tried and tried to pry her fingers off, but he just couldn’t. Teacher Xiao Hong had a death grip on him.

Wa Wa Lian didn’t dare to use too much force, so after all that struggle, he still couldn’t get Teacher Xiao Hong’s hand off.

In the end, when it was time to put Xiao Hong in the ambulance, Wa Wa Lian still hadn’t managed to get free.

So he had no choice but to go with her.

Since Wu Sheng had given the order, Wa Wa Lian figured he might as well get in the ambulance.

"When someone’s in shock, things like this can happen," Wu Sheng explained to Su Li, a fleeting smile touching his lips.

"Sometimes, a man even ends up bringing home a wife this way."

His words made Su Li forget her earlier embarrassment. Her eyes shifted. "If a ’good thing’ like that happened to you, would you bring her home?"

Su Li’s tone was slow and deliberate, laced with a hint of danger.
