From Broken Family to Life Winner: A Reborn Mother's Journey
Chapter 611 - 610: Showing Off or Losing Face
"Morning." Wu Sheng was standing at the door, just as he had countless times before when he came to pick them up.
"How long have you been here? Why didn’t you knock again?" Su Li’s heart softened as she pulled the door open to let him in.
Wu Sheng was always like this when he came in the mornings. Every time Su Li finished getting ready and opened the door, he would be outside. At first, she didn’t notice, but once she did, she told him to knock.
He always agreed readily but still never knocked, quietly waiting outside every time.
Su Li had asked him why he didn’t knock, and Wu Sheng had answered nonchalantly, "Why would I knock? You’ll come out when you’re ready."
Wu Sheng knew Su Li’s personality. If they agreed on a time, she would be ready by then. Why would he need to knock and rush her?
Time and again, Su Li started getting up ten minutes earlier to open the door, but she would still see Wu Sheng waiting.
In any case, he was always there waiting for them outside the door.
Su Li worried that he was coming way too early every time, so once she deliberately opened the door an hour before their agreed-upon time to check.
She didn’t see Wu Sheng and finally breathed a sigh of relief.
It turned out Wu Sheng wasn’t just waiting aimlessly an hour or two early, which put Su Li’s mind at ease.
"Is Little Point ready?" Wu Sheng asked as he came in.
"I’m ready," Tang Mo answered for himself.
He walked out with his backpack on, all ready to go.
"Let’s go, then." Wu Sheng skillfully took Su Li’s and Tang Mo’s bags and headed out first. Then he helped Su Li lock the door, and only after it was locked did they head downstairs together.
They bought and ate breakfast on the way. After dropping Tang Mo off at school, Wu Sheng and Su Li headed to the TV station.
With Tang Mo no longer in the car, Su Li could feel Wu Sheng’s intense gaze on her.
Su Li endured it for two minutes before she couldn’t take it anymore. "You should focus on driving. Why do you keep looking at me?"
"...You’re so beautiful. Of course I have to take a few more looks," Wu Sheng said honestly.
A woman dolls herself up for the one who adores her. Su Li had taken care with her appearance, and hearing Wu Sheng call her beautiful, the corners of her lips curved up for a fleeting moment, but she said aloud,
"Just focus on driving."
As she said this, she was reminded of the bus from yesterday. "Just yesterday, someone was driving their bus recklessly. We almost got hit."
As they spoke, they quickly arrived at the TV station.
They arrived at the perfect time, exactly ten minutes before the workday started. Many of their colleagues arrived around this time as well.
As they neared the station, they saw several colleagues heading toward it, some walking, some on bikes.
"That one... and that one... They’re all my colleagues," Su Li said, pointing them out to Wu Sheng.
Wu Sheng hummed in acknowledgment and smoothly parked the car at the station’s entrance. Seeing Su Li about to unbuckle her seatbelt, he quickly reached out to stop her.
"Wait for me to get out and open the door for you. Don’t get out by yourself."
Wu Sheng’s tone was cheerful. "You’re going to be a little princess today."
Hearing his words, Su Li let out a PFFT of laughter. Her lips twitched, and she couldn’t resist retorting.
"And who isn’t a ’widdle pwincess,’ right?"
’Hmm, besides that one, there’s also—*who isn’t a little fairy?*’
Wu Sheng couldn’t help but laugh at her words. "’Widdle pwincess?’ What kind of weird way of saying it is that?"
Su Li darted her eyes away. "I just said ’little princess.’ You heard wrong."
Wu Sheng didn’t press the issue and got out of the car.
Speaking of which, when destiny comes knocking, there’s truly no stopping it. Just as Wu Sheng got out of the car, he suddenly heard a soft gasp of surprise.
"Wu Sheng?!"
An unfamiliar, pleasantly surprised female voice called out. Wu Sheng furrowed his brow and looked toward the source of the sound, only to see Li Anna.
Li Anna’s face was glowing with excitement. She was walking into the TV station with a few colleagues, all of them young women who usually flattered her and got along well with her.
Just moments before, they had been chatting about something or other, but upon seeing Wu Sheng, they all gasped and covered their mouths, unable to contain their excitement.
"Anna, is this the man you were talking about?"
"Oh my god, he’s so... so amazing."
Each of them was so excited their faces turned bright red, and they hopped on their feet with glee. Li Anna was also flushed and thrilled, but she restrained herself, putting on a demure act. She patted their hands and asked Wu Sheng softly,
"What brings you here? Are you here for something?"
Her voice was flirtatious and trembled slightly.
Wu Sheng had been very cold last night, and she originally thought she would have to put in more effort. She never expected to see him here this morning.
Li Anna’s heart began to race, and she didn’t even have the presence of mind to notice Wu Sheng’s furrowed brow and displeased expression.
Wu Sheng was just about to walk around to open the door for Su Li. He had only made it to the front of the car when Li Anna called out to him.
Hearing Li Anna’s question, his brow furrowed deeper as he glanced at Su Li, who was still sitting in the car.
Su Li... Su Li was sitting in the car, watching Li Anna outside.
Li Anna looked like a puppy that had just spotted a bone, leaving Su Li a little dumbfounded.
When Wu Sheng saw Su Li looking at Li Anna, his heart skipped a beat. Not knowing what she was thinking and afraid she might feel upset, he started to say,
"I’m here to..."
He was just about to say, "I’m here to drop off my fiancée."
But before he could get the most important last few words out, one of the girls next to Li Anna interrupted him.
She clapped her hands excitedly and cut Wu Sheng off. "I know! You’re here to see our Anna, right?"
"What nonsense are you talking about?" Li Anna’s face flushed slightly as she tugged on the girl’s hand.
The girl grinned. "I’m not talking nonsense. You said before that you wanted to find a truly formidable man one day, and just now you mentioned you met someone last night... Who else could it be but him?"
Li Anna was the type who couldn’t keep things to herself and loved being the center of attention. She had previously mentioned, in a casually feigned tone, that she knew Ye Xilan and that Ye Xilan was going to set her up with a good match.
After meeting Wu Sheng last night, Li Anna had been incredibly pleased with him. So when she ran into these colleagues first thing in the morning, she couldn’t help but let a little bit slip.
And just as they were talking about him, Wu Sheng had suddenly appeared right before their eyes.
Wu Sheng was simply too eye-catching. He was so dazzlingly handsome, and yet so imposing. A man of high status. He was practically a Prince Charming.
How could Li Anna not be excited? And how could these girls not be excited?
"Sister Anna, you should go on. He came all this way to find you. We won’t disturb you two."
The girls giggled and gave Li Anna a push. Feigning reluctance, Li Anna was nudged forward.
"I’m sorry, they just like to joke around..." Li Anna explained, her face slightly flushed, as she looked straight up at Wu Sheng.
Wu Sheng’s brow furrowed as he looked at Li Anna, then at her friends who had said they were leaving but were actually still standing there, grinning and watching excitedly. He said flatly,
"I’m sorry for the misunderstanding. I’m here to drop off my fiancée."
A few seconds after Wu Sheng’s flat words fell, the chirping laughter of the girls belatedly died down.
Other colleagues who had stopped to watch the commotion were also completely surprised. All at once, their eyes turned to the passenger seat of the car Wu Sheng had driven up in.
Li Anna’s face was stiff as she stared straight ahead, watching Wu Sheng stride past her on his long legs, stop beside the passenger door, and open it.
"We’re here. Come on out."
The same Wu Sheng who had been cold-faced just a moment ago spoke gently to the person inside. His attitude was a world away from the indifference he had just shown.
Wu Sheng held the door, his hand gently shielding the top of the doorframe. His fiancée finally revealed herself.
"Su Li?"
"Su Li!"
"Oh my god, Su Li!"
Amid a series of sharp gasps, Su Li stood beside Wu Sheng, offering an awkward yet polite smile.
