From Broken Family to Life Winner: A Reborn Mother's Journey
Chapter 602 - 601: Lifting a Rock to Smash One’s Own Foot (Part 2)
When Su Li came back with the coffee, Li Anna was chatting happily with the two foreign experts.
But the two experts from Huaguo looked less than pleased, something Su Li sensed the moment she walked in.
"You’re back." Li Anna shot Su Li a look.
Su Li went in, placed the two cups of coffee on the table, and listened as Li Anna told them to have coffee if they weren’t used to tea.
The two men naturally thanked her, smiled at Su Li who had brought them the coffee, and said, "Thank you."
Su Li gave a slight smile and a nod.
Li Anna suddenly stood up and told the two foreign experts that she had something urgent to attend to. She added that Su Li would be staying behind and that they could go to her if they needed anything, as Su Li was also fluent in their language.
The two of them had no objections and told Li Anna to go ahead.
Li Anna then perfunctorily told the two Huaguo experts that she had to get busy, before turning to Su Li.
"Su Li, stay here and help look after the experts. The two foreign experts are a bit short-tempered, so don’t provoke them. If you can’t understand what they’re saying, come find me."
Su Li: "..."
The look on Su Li’s face as she watched Li Anna was indescribably subtle.
’It feels like I’m watching Li Anna perform a one-woman show. She thinks I can’t see what she’s doing, but in reality, I understand everything perfectly.’
’I can see right through Li Anna’s petty little scheme.’
’She told the foreign experts right in front of me that my language skills were good, setting a trap for me. If I didn’t really know the language thanks to my "cheat," I wouldn’t have understood them. The experts would have thought I was being difficult on purpose. I can only imagine the consequences.’
Li Anna had set the trap right in front of Su Li, then immediately switched to the Huaguo language to deliver her warning.
’Short-tempered? Their tempers seem perfectly fine. They’d only get upset if they misunderstood me.’
Watching Li Anna, Su Li could just imagine what was going through her head.
"I... actually, I..." Su Li started to speak, then stopped, feeling utterly conflicted.
’I really want to tell Li Anna that I can understand everything.’
But in the end, Su Li didn’t say it. If she did, Li Anna would probably die of embarrassment.
Su Li was no saint; she would naturally be happy to see Li Anna embarrassed. However, this wasn’t the right time or place.
So Su Li kept her mouth shut. Seeing Su Li’s expression and her hesitation, Li Anna assumed she was scared and panicking.
A mocking smile flashed in her eyes. She patted Su Li’s shoulder, left her with a "I have high hopes for you, junior, keep it up," and quickly walked out.
Su Li watched her leave, her expression unreadable.
In her past life, Su Li had been a cleaner at a TV station. She had seen all kinds of condescending orders and contempt. Later, she’d also done odd jobs. So, she was actually quite calm about the tasks Li Anna gave her.
Su Li could guess what Li Anna was thinking. But to guess it was one thing; to watch her put those thoughts into action right in front of her... Su Li was simply speechless.
Su Li watched Li Anna until she was gone.
Before turning the corner, Li Anna could see Su Li watching her out of the corner of her eye. She didn’t look back, but the corners of her mouth immediately curved up.
She was busy, but not so busy that she had to leave right then. She had deliberately left Su Li there to be humiliated, to let everyone see how much worse Su Li was compared to her.
’If Su Li has any sense of shame, she’ll just end her internship and give up on working at the TV station.’
’People need to understand their place. Such a young girl with that kind of attitude, and she doesn’t even know how to yield. I’ll make you come begging to me.’
Li Anna walked away with her head held high, waiting for Su Li to come begging, waiting to teach her a good lesson.
With this thought in mind, Li Anna started counting the time. ’Can she last three minutes? Five minutes? Or ten? Or will she just run away crying?’
Three minutes passed quickly.
Li Anna checked the time, looked at the door, and frowned slightly.
Then she continued to ’work’.
Five minutes passed.
Su Li still hadn’t come, and there was no commotion from outside. It seemed there was no news of angry foreign experts.
"What’s going on?" Li Anna frowned deeply. ’So she has a few tricks up her sleeve. Let’s see how long you can last.’
The next five minutes passed very, very slowly. Li Anna checked her watch several times.
A colleague nearby saw her checking her watch and, assuming she was busy, told her she could go take care of her business first.
"It’s fine, it’s fine." Li Anna shook her head, gritted her teeth, and continued to ’work’.
Another five minutes, and then another.
After a full twenty minutes had passed, Li Anna couldn’t sit still any longer. She finally finished her ’work’ and went to rescue Su Li.
But when she got to the reception room, she found it completely empty.
Li Anna’s expression changed. She hurriedly grabbed a young man who was passing by. "Where are the people who were in there? Those are experts, foreign experts!"
The young man was stunned by her expression. "I... I saw them go up to the third floor."
’The third floor... isn’t that where the small recording studio is?’
Li Anna’s face was incredibly grim. "That Su Li! She’s more trouble than she’s worth! I told her to host the experts properly, and this is what she does? Go find them, quickly!"
"Okay." The young man hesitated for a moment before agreeing.
Li Anna strode quickly toward the third floor, grabbing a few more people along the way and telling everyone to help find Su Li, who had probably caused some trouble.
Li Anna led the group to the third floor, marching toward the small recording studio like an avenging fury, but when they got there, they didn’t see anyone.
"What is wrong with that Su Li? I ask her to do one simple thing and she can’t even get it right. If she scared the experts away, let’s see how she’ll handle it. If she doesn’t know English, she should have just said so. Why pretend to be capable..."
Li Anna was fuming. Staring at the empty recording studio, she finally couldn’t help but voice her ’disappointment’ in Su Li’s failure.
As she was speaking, she didn’t notice that her surroundings had suddenly gone quiet.
She was about to say more when her sleeve was suddenly tugged. "Sister Anna, they’re here..."
"Here for what..." Li Anna shook her hand free, turned around, and came face-to-face with Su Li and the four experts.
The two foreign experts looked utterly confused, as they couldn’t understand what she was saying.
Next to them were the editor-in-chief and the two Huaguo experts, who didn’t look very happy. As for Su Li, who was in the middle of them all, the way she looked at Li Anna was incredibly strange.
Yes, incredibly strange.
For some reason, Li Anna was suddenly overcome with a bad feeling.
"You... Su Li, where did you take them...?" she managed, forcing a smile.
"I just gave them a little tour," Su Li replied softly.
"Anna," the editor-in-chief suddenly spoke up from the side. "The two foreign experts wish to work with Su Li, so we’re adjusting the original plan. You can just focus on preparing for your hosting duties. You don’t need to worry about this interview anymore."
"What? Su Li is doing the interview? Impossible! She doesn’t even know English," Li Anna immediately retorted.
Just then, the two foreign experts walking ahead suddenly turned back, called out to Su Li, and asked her a question.
Su Li smiled, stepped forward, and began to answer. The English that flowed from her lips was more fluent, smooth, and pleasant to the ear than Li Anna’s. It wasn’t stiff at all; it even had a certain rhythm to it.
It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say she was leagues ahead of Li Anna—at least by a few blocks.
In that instant, the look on Li Anna’s face was beyond description.
The few people she had dragged along to find Su Li also had priceless expressions at that moment. The way they looked at Li Anna was, for a time, truly hard to put into words.
