From Broken Family to Life Winner: A Reborn Mother's Journey
Chapter 587 - 586: Hand-Tearing the Scum (Part 2)
Su Li was so cooperative. Not only had she gathered everyone involved, but her attitude was also excellent. She was ready to explain the whole story without them even having to ask, which was absolutely perfect.
The two reporters nodded vigorously. "Alright, please begin."
The recording had already begun.
The reporters sat bolt upright, ready to listen.
However, Miao Fenghua and Su Dan had a bad feeling. Or rather, a very bad feeling.
They had witnessed what Su Li’s sharp tongue was capable of before. It was because of her schemes, her words, and her ruthlessness that they were now living this miserable life. They couldn’t let her do all the talking this time.
They had to speak up too!
"Wait a minute!" Miao Fenghua thought, immediately cutting Su Li off. "I have something to say, too."
Su Li looked over, seemingly unsurprised. "Of course, Mother. Please, you go first."
Miao Fenghua snorted inwardly. ’She’s been ignoring me this whole time, but the moment reporters are here, it’s "Mother" and all these pleasantries, as if she actually respects me!’
’Still, it’s good that the ungrateful brat knows to be afraid! She knows who she’s dealing with!’
Miao Fenghua did her best to ignore Officer Fang Luo and began to speak. "You just said a married daughter is like spilled water, and you also mentioned that I still have a son. That’s true. But as children, both sons and daughters have a duty to support their parents."
"You can’t just spread your wings and abandon me now that you’re grown. Was it easy for me to struggle to raise you? I even sent you to junior high! You look around for miles—how many other girls got to go to junior high!"
"In many families, kids don’t even get to attend elementary school. You were able to go to junior high, take the college entrance exams, and attend university. All of it... even if I don’t take all the credit, you have to acknowledge my hard work!"
Her words sounded quite reasonable, and even the reporters nodded in agreement.
A flicker of amusement flashed in Zhao Wenming’s eyes. He had fed her all these lines, and he was surprised Miao Fenghua had actually remembered them. Not bad.
Seeing that everyone seemed to agree with her, Miao Fenghua felt a surge of smug satisfaction. She puffed out her chest and glared at Su Li.
Su Li looked at her and nodded. "Yes, what Mother says is true. I have always remembered this debt of gratitude."
Miao Fenghua huffed. "It’s good that you remember. But if you remember, how could you abandon me like this? You haven’t come home for years, just leaving your old mother all alone. If you were struggling yourself, I would understand, but you’re clearly making so much money."
Miao Fenghua began to wipe tears from her eyes. "Your brother’s health has been poor since he was a boy. We asked to come work at your factory, but you wouldn’t even let us in. All these years, you haven’t looked after us at all. It’s like I gave birth to you and raised you for nothing!"
The two reporters’ eyes lit up, and they asked eagerly, "So, Ms. Miao, what is it that you’re asking for?"
"I just want to have enough food to eat, warm clothes to wear, and enough money to see a doctor when I’m sick. I’m not asking Su Li for a pile of cash. Just let us work in the factory to earn our own wages. Of course, if she could give us some shares, I would be eternally grateful."
Miao Fenghua knew that asking for shares directly was much better than just trying to extort a few thousand yuan today.
A few thousand yuan, as much as it was, would eventually run out. But these things called "shares"—they were like a hen that lays golden eggs. They could make money forever. Once she got her hands on them, she’d be set for life.
A faint smile touched Su Li’s lips.
’Just as I thought... They’re certainly greedy. They want shares, do they? Today it’s shares; I’m afraid tomorrow they’ll want the entire factory.’
’Are they dreaming? They must be dreaming.’
After Miao Fenghua finished, all eyes turned to Su Li, waiting for her response.
Everyone was baffled to see that Su Li was actually smiling.
Su Li lifted her head, and the faint smile on her lips twisted into a bitter one.
"Mother, you want the shares and the factory... so you can give them all to Brother?"
Su Li had asked the very question that was in Miao Fenghua’s heart. She nodded without a second thought, but just as she was about to speak, Su Li cut her off.
Su Li had only waited for that unconscious nod. She gave her mother no chance to speak, immediately pressing on with another question.
"Is that why you and Brother tried to have me and Little Mo sold off, so you could have the factory all to yourselves?"
The topic had shifted so abruptly that no one could react for a moment. When they finally processed it, they saw Su Li lowering her head, dabbing at her eyes.
Miao Fenghua and Su Dan were horrified, frantically waving their hands in denial. "Su Li, what are you talking about? What nonsense is this? When did we ever try to sell you?"
’She can’t say things like that! Fang Luo is right here!’
Su Li took a deep breath, raised her head, and looked at her assistant. "Please, tell everyone what happened."
"Yes, ma’am." The assistant nodded and began distributing the newspapers he had at hand.
"I’m sure everyone heard the news reports about the human trafficking ring last year. These are some of the articles from that time. The truth is, our very own President Su and her son were among the intended victims."
"At the time, President Su’s son was kidnapped by the traffickers, but President Su herself managed to escape because the kidnappers mistook her for someone else—a fluke."
"After a harrowing ordeal, President Su’s son was rescued. The traffickers later confessed that they had targeted the mother and son because someone had paid them for the kidnapping."
Miao Fenghua and Su Dan, whose expressions had changed drastically the moment the assistant began speaking, watched in horror as he delivered the final line with quick, clear precision.
"The person who paid for the kidnapping was President Su’s own sister-in-law—Ms. Miao’s daughter-in-law and Mr. Su Dan’s wife, Qin Shanshan."
"Qin Shanshan is currently serving her sentence in prison. She was evasive about her motives and never officially confirmed them, but the evidence against her was conclusive. It’s all in the official case file. Anyone who wishes to verify this can try applying for access to the records."
The assistant’s statement left everyone stunned.
Miao Fenghua and Su Dan finally cried out, "No! That had nothing to do with us! We didn’t know anything! We’re innocent!"
"That was all the work of that venomous woman, Qin Shanshan! It had nothing to do with us! We didn’t know!"
Su Li took a deep breath, but instead of dwelling on that point, she began a new line of questioning.
"I wasn’t surprised by this incident, because I’ve been through something like this before. A little over three years ago, almost four, my mother and brother came to my house to rob me. They were screaming, making death threats, and they completely ransacked the place. To force me to give them money, they held my son hostage and threatened to kill him."
"Ultimately, it was Fang Luo who happened to be passing by at that exact moment. He saved both me and my son. Afterward, terrified that they would come back to kill us at any moment, I sought help. Fang Luo can testify to all of this."
Fang Luo nodded, pushing the file in his hands forward slightly.
"This is the case file," he said. "The offenses were severe, and they came very close to serving jail time. They were let go only because they were, after all, her mother and brother."
Fang Luo sighed. He didn’t say another word, but everyone understood the implication: he couldn’t believe they still hadn’t changed their ways.
Su Li gritted her teeth, her expression a mask of fortitude. "I remember the debt I owe them for raising me, and I have always wanted to fulfill my duty to support them. But after these experiences... I don’t dare."
"I’ve been lucky enough to escape one disaster after another. I’m afraid that if I give in even once, it will be the point of no return."
"And... besides... from what I understand, the family shouldn’t be so poor they can’t even afford a doctor. Not long ago, my sister-in-law and brother... they went to the military family compound in the Imperial City and received a compensation payment of four thousand yuan."
Four thousand yuan!
Everyone gasped. Another complete surprise!
"With normal expenses, four thousand yuan should last for many years," Su Li concluded.
