Chapter 578 - 577: The Troublemaker Gets a Scare (Part 1)

Tang Yuanxiao returned to the family residences, lost in a moment of fond reminiscence, completely unaware that Mrs. Tang was stirring up trouble again.

That’s right, stirring up trouble.

Mrs. Tang had used the newspaper to wipe her bottom, and she finally felt like she had vented some of her frustration.

She might have gotten her satisfaction when it came to Su Li, but she hadn’t vented her anger toward Lin Huanzhu yet.

The memory of Tang Yuanxiao being so protective of Lin Huanzhu was enough to make Mrs. Tang spit blood.

She had told Tang Yuanxiao long ago that she would never, under any circumstances, accept that demonic woman as a daughter-in-law. But Tang Yuanxiao hadn’t listened at all. Between Su Li and now Qin Shanshan, Mrs. Tang had had enough.

All she wanted now was a gentle and submissive daughter-in-law!

But Lin Huanzhu had nothing to do with "gentle" or "submissive." Just look at her, look at that hair! She didn’t even look like a proper woman, let alone a gentle and submissive one!

Mrs. Tang stewed in her anger, thinking about it all day. In the evening, when her caregiver was pushing her outside for some fresh air, she spotted Lin Huanzhu. Mrs. Tang immediately found an excuse to send the caregiver away and called out to her.

"Lin Huanzhu."

Mrs. Tang wore a smile that didn’t reach her eyes, once again asking Lin Huanzhu for help.

Lin Huanzhu had been on her way out, but she couldn’t just ignore Mrs. Tang. She had no choice but to patiently stop.

"Auntie, if there’s anything you need, can we talk about it when I get back? I have to go out for something right now."

"What could be so important that you can’t even spare a few minutes? I’m in a hurry here."

Mrs. Tang put on a troubled expression. "Help push me to the restroom. I need to go, and you wouldn’t want me to wet myself, would you?"

Said Mrs. Tang, who wet her pants daily, without a hint of shame.

Lin Huanzhu knew what was going on, but she really couldn’t refuse at a time like this. Seeing no caregivers around, she could only suppress her anger and start pushing Mrs. Tang’s wheelchair.

Lin Huanzhu was in a hurry, so she pushed the chair quickly. Mrs. Tang, however, was not having it.

"Slower, slower! I can barely breathe! It’s too bumpy."

She started shouting angrily, "Are you in a rush to get to your own funeral? Why are you in such a hurry!"

As she spoke, Mrs. Tang didn’t forget to slap at Lin Huanzhu with her one good hand.

"I really am in a hurry, Auntie," Lin Huanzhu said, unfazed.

"What is wrong with you, girl? I told you it’s too bumpy! I feel like I’m falling apart! Are you trying to kill me?"

Mrs. Tang’s scolding escalated. "You’re a girl, but you dress all androgynous and don’t look feminine at all. Fine. But you’re so rough, too! Who would ever dare to marry you? You’ll be an old maid for the rest of your life!"

She was now openly berating Lin Huanzhu, venting her misplaced anger. Lin Huanzhu was at her wit’s end. The only reason she didn’t curse back was because she thought of how diligently Tang Yuanxiao was helping her.

"We’re here, Auntie."

Lin Huanzhu stopped. Mrs. Tang took a look and changed her mind again. "I don’t have to go anymore. You jostled the pee right out of me. Push me back."

Lin Huanzhu crossed her arms and refused. She didn’t have time to be trifled with and waste it on Mrs. Tang.

"Auntie, are you aging in reverse? You don’t even know if you need to pee or not?"

After letting out her frustration in a single breath, Lin Huanzhu took a deep inhale. "Fine. I’ll push you back, but I really have to go after this."

Mrs. Tang had been fuming. But when she saw that Lin Huanzhu actually swallowed her anger and started pushing her back, her bully-the-weak-and-fear-the-strong nature instantly kicked in. She visibly puffed up with arrogance, no longer afraid of Lin Huanzhu in the slightest.

"It’s always ’I have something to do, I have something to do.’ What could you possibly have to do? Let me tell you, Lin Huanzhu, someone like you can forget about ever getting married. Don’t even dream about it."

"You have no patience at all, and you dare to yell at an old woman like me. And that hair of yours..."

Mrs. Tang rambled on, listing her faults. Lin Huanzhu gritted her teeth, pushed her back to her original spot, and cut off her nagging.

"There. Someone will pass by to help you, Auntie. I’m leaving now."

Lin Huanzhu turned and ran. Mrs. Tang watched her retreating back, furious, and started cursing under her breath.

"What could you be so busy with? Are you going off to catch criminals or something? Lin Huanzhu, I’m telling you, with an attitude like that, you want to marry into my Tang Family? Ptooey! I’m telling you, not a chance in hell!"

Lin Huanzhu didn’t even look back. But once Mrs. Tang started, she had no intention of stopping.

"Born but not raised, no manners at all. Someone like that wants to marry into my Tang Family? I’ll say it right now, a girl like you, unless you grow your hair long and learn how to be gentle and filial, otherwise..."

Mrs. Tang sat alone in her wheelchair, rambling on. Remembering how she used to be afraid of that demonic woman, she couldn’t help but curse even more vehemently.

She was still in the middle of her tirade, just getting warmed up, when she suddenly saw Lin Huanzhu running back.

’Hmph, running back to try and sweet-talk me? Too late...’

Just as Mrs. Tang was smirking to herself, she saw Lin Huanzhu shout, "Get out of the way! Move!"

Mrs. Tang was bewildered. Watching Lin Huanzhu running and yelling like that, she just thought how unattractive and unladylike it was.

As she was grumbling, she saw several more people running over from the direction of the entrance. ’What’s going on...’

Just as the thought crossed her mind, she saw Lin Huanzhu skid to a halt a short distance away, whip out a gun from behind her back, and aim it at her.

"Don’t move!"

The sight of the gun scared Mrs. Tang out of her wits. "What are you doing..."

She trembled uncontrollably and instantly wet herself.

But Lin Huanzhu wasn’t looking at her. Her gaze was fixed on the space behind her, her eyes as sharp as knives. She was nothing like the person she had been just moments ago.

In that instant, Lin Huanzhu seemed like a completely different person. Or rather, she was finally revealing her true self: sharp and imposing, radiating an authority that inspired fear and caution.

An ordinary person would have reacted that way, to say nothing of a guilt-ridden criminal or the likes of Mrs. Tang.

Mrs. Tang was trembling, and just as she was about to speak, an arm suddenly wrapped around her neck from behind.

"Don’t come any closer! Let me go!"

Mrs. Tang never imagined someone would be behind her. She was scared to death, unable to even scream. She caught a glimpse of the handcuffs on the man’s wrist, felt their cold chill, and was on the verge of a complete breakdown.

Mrs. Tang always acted as if she feared nothing, even boasting about having been in jail, as if that made her some kind of big shot. In reality, she was just a bully who preyed on the weak and feared the strong, the type who could only pick on a child like Little Tang Mo.

She had never encountered a truly vicious person before, let alone faced one. She instantly turned to jelly.

"Don’t... don’t kill me... I’m begging you, don’t kill me..." Mrs. Tang immediately started pleading for her life, her eyes darting to Lin Huanzhu in a desperate appeal for help.

"Save me, save me..."

"Shut up!" The one holding—or rather, grabbing—Mrs. Tang was a fugitive. He had been arrested for murder, but somehow, he had managed to escape while being transported to his trial.

He knew that if he didn’t escape now, he would likely spend the rest of his life in prison. He was desperate and beyond caring about the consequences.

"Shut your mouth, old hag! Scream again and I’ll kill you!" Having just made his threat, he saw Mrs. Tang was still trying to move and, without a second thought, raised his hand to knock her unconscious.

"Ahhh—" Mrs. Tang shrieked, scared out of her mind.

And at that exact moment, Mrs. Tang heard a gunshot.

BANG! The sound was deafening.

Mrs. Tang’s scream turned into a horrible, grating squawk, like a startled duck.

As she shrieked, Mrs. Tang’s mind went completely blank.
