Chapter 650: Gu Ningxuan’s Otherworldly Travels (Part 4)
This psychic insurrection lasted for quite a while, and it even showed signs of escalating, spreading its impact further. Although everyone disliked this oppressive feeling, the warriors in the base noticed an embarrassing phenomenon: the Insect Race, which attacked daily like clockwork, retreated halfway through... Damn, didn’t they promise to fight to the death?
Warriors who were ready to battle against the approaching Adhesive Devouring Worms were all left with embarrassed expressions, as they watched the dark mass of worms crawl closer, chattering noisily, only to turn around and scurry away like they’d seen a ghost just a hundred meters from the fifth defense wall...
"Why do I feel... these disgusting bugs are afraid?" One warrior’s face was stiff and comical, eyes wide open. After battling these creatures for over twenty years, it was the first time he’d heard of them retreating voluntarily.
The fifth defense wall was quite a distance from Gu Ningxuan’s current location, spanning a vast city area. Therefore, when the psychic wave reached there, the warriors, strong in both spiritual power and physical strength, didn’t have a strong reaction. Because the Insect Race themselves induce a sense of spiritual oppression, no one could initially tell the difference between the two.
But the Insect Race is different; the lower level they are, the more they have an "eye" for strength, submitting to absolute power, whether that power belongs to an Insect, a human, or another interstellar species. Runaway psychic power is inherently stronger than in a calm state, and Gu Ningxuan’s Mind Level isn’t low. After undergoing two strong spiritual stimulations, he made significant progress.
That the Adhesive Devouring Worms would be scared off is entirely normal. In fact, if Gu Ningxuan could control the runaway psychic power at this moment, he might be able to command these Insect Race for his use. Of course, if it were a higher-level strain, the effect wouldn’t be so pronounced.
Such a large disturbance wouldn’t go unnoticed. Marshal Gu, who had already left, approached Gu Qidong with a cold expression. A team of warriors endured their discomfort, piloting their Mechas and aiming their cannons at the building, ready to clear the enemy as soon as their Marshal gave the order.
Having dealt with the Insect Race for so many years, they couldn’t not recognize what this sensation was.
Those Insect Race with weird psychic powers are incredibly strong in battle, with even one Insect causing nearly a hundredfold damage to the Alliance... And now, the psychic wave emanating from within the room was obviously much stronger than anything they’d encountered before, terrifyingly so.
And now, such a dangerous being appeared in the heart of the base... Marshal Gu’s expression was indifferent, but a nearly palpable killing intent flashed in his eyes. Gu Qidong raised his hand to stop his action, "Don’t act rashly; there’s no enemy inside..."
"No enemy?" Marshal Gu looked around, his frown deepening. "Where’s that person from before?"
Gu Qidong and Gu Ningzhi directed their gaze inside the room, and Young Master Gu Er spoke. "This spiritual power, indistinguishable from the Insect Race, seems to be emitted by the young man claiming to be Gu Ningxuan. We asked him a lot of questions before... If not for this incident, I would almost believe he was another world’s ’Gu Ningxuan’. But he... has the Insect Race’s..."
That oppressive feeling, Gu Ningzhi was all too familiar with. In fact, he encountered one over a month ago; had it not been for an extraordinarily high stroke of luck, he might have had his name engraved on a martyr’s monument instead of standing here speaking. He knew all too well that the most prudent course of action was to eliminate the danger before it revealed its horrors, but when he thought of that face identical to his third brother’s, he just couldn’t bring himself to act.
Upon hearing this, Marshal Gu motioned to the airborne Mecha troops, signaling them to remain in place and not act hastily, then asked his second brother, "What did you talk about before that would earn your trust? Even father too..."
Their own family knew best; whether it was Gu Qidong or Gu Ningzhi, neither were the type to easily trust others, their suspicion always outweighing their trust. Yet, even with this, they believed a mysterious young man in such a short time. There must be something fishy going on.
Gu Ningzhi recounted the matters, and upon hearing it, Marshal’s only response was a cold snort, the disdain evident enough for even a blind person to perceive. Clearly, he was scornful that even his fox-like second brother could have such a naïve moment.
