Four Split Personalities
Chapter 2846 - 1349: Law Enforcers
It’s begun.
In the end, it’s still begun.
After waiting for so long, in the end, I let that bitch make the first move.
"To be honest, it’s a bit frustrating."
The petite girl sighed softly, brushed the hair by her ear, then adjusted the position of her ahoge to surpass the 160-centimeter mark. Her gaze, cold and clear, fixated on the attackers in the near distance—men and women of all ages, dressed differently but donning the same comical (yes, that expression) masks. She curled her lips into a faint smirk, murmuring, "Never mind, after all, that guy knows he’s no match for me in a direct confrontation. It’d be strange if he didn’t resort to something underhanded..."
Clearly, although they were both intellectual workers, Double Leaf didn’t mind being ’outsmarted’ by the opponent. After all, she’d practically never dropped from the first page of the [Player’s Individual Strength Rankings], outstanding in sheer prowess, whereas ’Tan Mo’ hadn’t even cracked the top two hundred in terms of personal combat power and would quickly be knocked down whenever he poked his head up, showing the vast gap in hard power between the two.
And this was the central theme of their wager. As a strong one, Double Leaf would focus most of her energy on enhancing her own strength, while as a weaker one, Motan had to find ways to win beyond hard power, in other words, by using various cunning strategies to compensate for the deficit in hard power.
Neither were fools. They both knew the only way they could secure ultimate victory was to expand their advantage on this theme, not foolishly try to cover their weaknesses, even if their positions were reversed, the strategy wouldn’t change a bit.
Double Leaf could build an intelligence network, Motan could strive to intensify his strength briefly, but both were aware such prudent seeming actions would forfeit their foothold at this level of rivalry, sacrificing their greatest hands.
This is why Double Leaf didn’t intentionally cultivate her network, even catching Kenneth’s attention was merely a coincidence, with no deliberate aim to connect with the [Mist Moon Sage]; likewise, though Motan could focus resources to bolster his strength, he still circles about frantically strategizing.
Objectively speaking, their decisions were sound; in fact, Motan held a tremendous advantage, which was his innate issue itself.
To claim three times the resources would be an exaggeration, yet in comparison to Double Leaf, Motan, always hidden and even a ’friend’ of the former, truly operated at a higher tier.
This situation heavily tipped the Balance of victory and defeat.
The remarkable factor was, Double Leaf was unaware of this matter, and if nothing unexpected occurred, she wouldn’t know for a very long time.
In summary, barring unforeseen incidents, when Motan finished crafting his trap completely, and managed to endure the preparation period until unveiling before Double Leaf unraveled his identity, the latter would struggle to avoid defeat; after all, it wasn’t a fair competition from the start, and they were well aware.
However, an unexpected event eventually came to pass...
As Motan had previously mentioned while being ’Mor’ to Yi Dong, that imposter masquerading as Motan himself, had it not been for his spur of the moment visit to Cole and Liz that day, he would have remained unaware, surfaced from obscurity, exuding a suffocating oppression.
Someone hidden in the deepest Darkness, watching the developments with cold eyes, completely unknown to himself irrespective of which persona he assumed, yet somehow extremely informed about himself.
A tremendous latent threat, one far exceeding Double Leaf’s, an anxiety-inducing threat that if not dealt with promptly, would jeopardize his restful nights.
Well, I’m aware most people are basically using [The Realm of Innocence] instead of sleeping now, but at times like this, can’t we just overlook that... it’s just an example...
In any case, it was precisely due to the sudden emergence of this threat, that Motan was compelled to direct most of his energy—regardless of which persona—towards it, necessitating a large expenditure of resources.
Consequently, the strategy initially certain of eliminating Double Leaf with absolute assurance suffered a Leak, because he had to factor in the presence of Diana, the Grand Astrologist. Therefore, Motan’s tactic against Double Leaf had to be standalone, meaning once used, it couldn’t be played again, or else it could lead to major trouble.
With the need to ensure the success rate of another plan, the setup on this end had to be downsized, and this downsizing just precisely leveled the advantage Motan held over Double Leaf, transforming a guaranteed victory into a perilous hunt.
It must be said, fate is truly mysterious; insist it’s unreasonable, and indeed, it speaks no logic to you; assert it is, and sometimes it whimsically restores balance to certain matters.
Anyway, it’s utterly ridiculous—
Of course, to Double Leaf at this moment, what’s ridiculous or not is irrelevant. After all, she lacked the ability to care about what she didn’t know, breaking free from this ’game’, and figuring out how to eliminate a certain bitch was her only task at present.
