Four Split Personalities
Chapter 2822 - 1337: The Crownless Ones
The next day
Game Time AM11:16
Academy City, Central District, 21 Star Stone Avenue, in front of the Academy City Law Enforcement Team Headquarters
"Halt, this is the territory of the Law Enforcement Force."
A crisp female voice brimming with authority resounded on the outer wall of the courtyard. The newcomer looked up to see a petite blonde girl with twin tails perched there. She was wearing a standard-issue short coat of the Law Enforcement Team, covered with graffiti, and her lower attire was snowy white bubble socks and round-toed leather boots. Despite the freckles, her face was quite cute, but carried a stern warning: "Halt, no admittance for idlers."
Motan hesitated for a moment, indecisively watching the heroic blonde girl before him who had just leapt down from the outer wall. He smiled awkwardly, "Excuse me, who are you?"
"Spence Beaumont, an officer of the Law Enforcement Team."
The latter waved her hand impatiently and glanced at the unremarkable man before her, "You don’t seem to be from our Academy City, are you? Are you part of an exchange group or a tourist? Anyway, if you’re lost, go to the office across the street and find someone wearing the same uniform as mine. I’m on duty and can’t leave."
"Uh...actually, I have an appointment."
Motan scratched his forehead awkwardly, looking innocuous as he said, "With Captain Foster Ward."
"Eh?"
Spence’s eyes widened instantly, and she subconsciously took half a step back, then quickly stood at attention. Her expression shifted from being absent-minded to serious and respectful as she asked, "Are you... Mr. Link Zelda?"
Motan nodded slightly with a smile, "Indeed I am."
"I’m terribly sorry for the previous rudeness!"
Upon confirming his identity, the girl immediately bowed ninety degrees and solemnly said, "The Captain is waiting for you in the office on the third floor. Let me take you there."
Motan smiled compliantly and nodded, "Then I’ll trouble you, Miss Beaumont."
"Oh, please, just call me Spence."
The girl waved her hand nervously, then turned and opened the door, leading the man whom the Captain specifically made time to wait for, calling him ’my important guest.’
To be honest, with Spence’s personality, even when facing high authorities like the headmaster of her own academy or members of the Elders’ meeting, she’d at most maintain superficial politeness, sometimes not even bothering with that. But for a ’guest’ for whom the entire Law Enforcement Team, whom she revered—and even more, for Captain Foster, who freed up his whole morning, missing the school-hosted Warfire League to wait back at headquarters—Spence dared not be negligent.
In fact, the man behind her, looking utterly unremarkable except for his friendly smile, had, in Spence’s mind, been envisioned as some indescribably towering and majestic figure.
It was very quiet along the way. It was the exchange period, so not many people were at the Law Enforcement Team headquarters. Also, those few who were there sensed something from Spence’s tense demeanor and instinctively grasped that the ’guest’ behind her was no ordinary figure, leading everyone else to become tense as well.
It’s worth noting that the blonde twin-tailed girl was not only an officer of the Law Enforcement Team but also the most troublesome, fearless one among them. Besides Captain Foster himself and another officer, An, without her glasses, no one could keep her in check.
So with the brash girl so tense, others naturally kept silent, not daring to even breathe loudly.
A moment later—
"Captain."
Knocking softly on the door of the Captain’s office on the third floor, Spence Beaumont stood at the entrance and said quietly, "Mr. Link Zelda has arrived."
"Please come in."
Soon, Foster Ward’s rich, deep voice resonated from inside the room. Not daring to delay, Spence promptly opened the door and escorted Motan inside.
From behind a spacious desk, Foster greeted them with a sincere smile, nodding slightly at Motan, "Welcome to the Law Enforcement Team, Mr. Zelda."
"You’re too kind."
Motan replied with slight apprehension, then carefully stepped inside.
While standing beside Foster, Lian smiled softly at Spence, "Thank you for your hard work, Spence."
"It’s nothing, just my duty."
Spence quickly shook her head, respectfully saying, "Then, I’ll take my leave, Captain, Sister Lian."
With that, she retreated and left the office, thoughtfully closing the door from outside.
...
Five seconds later
Snap—
With a snap of Foster’s fingers, an invisible disturbance spread out, enveloping the entire office.
"Is it done?"
Motan, seeing his ’old friend’ on the opposite side of the desk nodding at him, gradually shed his anxious expression, a sly smile forming at the corners of his mouth, "Are you sure the security measures are in place?"
Foster nodded slightly with a smile, "It can only block those up to the highest Epic Tier, but even a Legendary strong person wouldn’t hear anything in this office room until they break through this interference."
"Tsk... Should I trust you?"
