Forbidden Women Only Empire Where NO Man Could Set Foot. [Eden’s Vault]
Chapter 60: Laughter, Kisses, and Consequences
The heavy stone door to Medusa’s chamber slid open with a final click of magic.
As Hyun-woo stepped out, the cool air greeted him, washing over his skin and carrying the faint scent of pine, moss, and glowing flowers from the forest outside.
His neck and shoulders ached pleasantly from her possessive bites, and he could still feel the phantom grip of her tail around his waist.
Medusa slithered beside him, her long emerald serpent tail swaying lazily. She had thrown on a loose silk robe that did very little to hide the marks Hyun-woo had left on her cool skin.
Her snake-hair moved gently, the smaller vipers occasionally brushing against his arm like affectionate pets.
For once, she wasn’t rushing or hiding behind a wall of cold distance. She looked… content.
They started descending the spiral staircase that wound through the heart of the massive split tree. Hyun-woo's steps slowed as his eyes drifted to the stone statues lining the walls.
Dozens of them were male figures, frozen mid-motion. Some looked defiant with their weapons raised. Others were caught in pure terror, their hands shielding their faces.
Every single one was a man.
A cold shiver ran down his spine despite the lingering heat in his blood.
Fuck… If his talent hadn’t activated that first night with Ebonara, he could have ended up exactly like them. A permanent decoration. Or worse being digested and gone, just another meal for Ebonara’s children.
He gulped heavily.
He stopped on the stairs, staring at a particularly well-muscled statue with a sword still half-raised. “Lucky…” he muttered under his breath. “I’m so damn lucky.”
Medusa paused one step below him. Her emerald eyes followed his gaze, then softened. She turned fully toward him, the tip of her tail curling gently around his ankle as if reassuring him that nothing would happen to him now.
“You don’t need to worry about that anymore,” she said quietly, her voice cool and steady, but carrying a rare thread of warmth. “I couldn’t hurt you now even if I tried. Not really.”
He looked down, meeting her eyes. He stared at the scaled face she no longer hid from him, at the slitted pupils that held galaxies of emotion she’d buried for centuries.
Surprise tugged at his lips. “Now?”
Before she could respond, he reached out and delivered a firm, playful slap to her ass.
The sound echoed crisply up the stairwell, and the way her flesh jiggled under the thin silk made his hand tingle with sheer satisfaction.
Medusa yelped, making a surprised sound that was far too cute for someone who could turn entire armies to stone. Her tail flicked, and her snake-hair bristled defensively for a split second.
“Hyun-woo!” she demanded, turning those glowing eyes on him. “Why did you…”
He ignored her completely, pretending to study another statue further down the stairs with exaggerated interest. His heart was racing, but in the best way. This version of them—playful, unguarded—felt incredibly right.
She stared at him, stunned for half a heartbeat. Then, without warning, she struck.
Her cool hand snatched his, and sharp fangs sank into the side of his palm—not deep enough to draw blood, but definitely enough to sting.
“Ow—owowow!” he cried out, hissing through his teeth as a bright, hot spark of pain flared. “Medusa! Why did you do that?!”
She released his hand and turned away with perfect, dignified aloofness, exactly mirroring what he’d just done to her. Her tail swished smugly behind her.
Hyun-woo stood there, shaking his stinging hand dramatically while grinning like a total idiot.
At least she’s lively. The thought bubbled up, filled with pure affection. She wasn't a cold statue. She wasn't a distant goddess. She was just Medusa—his Medusa—giving as good as she got.
He started laughing. It was soft at first, then louder, the sound echoing warmly against the ancient stone.
Medusa glanced back, her scaled brow furrowing in confusion. “Why are you laughing?” she asked, a hint of genuine bewilderment coloring her voice.
He stepped closer, still chuckling, and cupped her face with both hands. His thumbs traced the cool ridges of her scales with open adoration. “Because you’re so beautiful,” he whispered, his voice thick with everything he felt but didn’t know how to say properly. “I couldn’t express how much I love you, so I laughed instead.”
Her eyes widened, the slitted pupils dilating with surprise.
Before she could reply, he pulled her in for a deep kiss. Their lips met softly at first, then with growing hunger. Her forked tongue curled around his, cool to the touch.
For a long moment, the world narrowed, and time became completely still.
When they parted, he grinned again and smacked her other ass cheek with just as much playful force. It jiggled beautifully.
Medusa yelped again, louder this time, her tail lashing once in mock outrage. But before she could fully react, he bolted—laughing like a madman as he dashed down the stairs.
“Hyun-woo!” he heard her call after him, equal parts amused, exasperated, and delighted. The sound of her powerful tail propelling her in rapid pursuit followed close behind.
He bolted down the last few steps of the spiral staircase, laughter still bubbling out of him like he was a kid again.
Behind him, the smooth, powerful slither of Medusa’s tail tracked his every move. She was fast, determined, and way too amused for someone who’d just gotten her ass slapped twice.
They burst into the main living area on the ground floor together, Hyun-woo barely half a step ahead, breathing hard and grinning like an absolute idiot.
The cozy space felt warmer than usual. Probably because three very familiar figures were already there.
Ebonara lounged on the largest couch, her eight gem-eyes half-lidded, her tail curled lazily around her waist. She looked every bit the queen, even in casual clothes.
Stheno sprawled beside her, her golden snake-hair hissing softly as she picked at a plate of glowing fruit. Euryale sat across from them, arms crossed, quietly watching the room.
Hyun-woo didn’t slow down. He bolted straight for Ebonara.
But she didn’t react the way she usually did. There was no playful tail flick, no teasing purr, no immediate tug pulling her "cutie pie" into her lap.
She just sat there, her eyes a deep, steady crimson, barely glancing his way as he slid behind the couch and wrapped his arms around her from behind.
His chest pressed against her back, his chin resting lightly on her shoulder. She didn’t pull away… but she didn’t lean into his touch either. There was no physical resistance, just a chilling, quiet indifference.
Stheno had noticed him first. A small, knowing smile tugged at her lips before she deliberately looked away, popping another piece of fruit into her mouth as if nothing interesting were happening.
Medusa arrived a second later, her cool, composed presence filling the room. He felt her emerald gaze land on him where he was wrapped around Ebonara, and something flickered across the gorgon's face.
Confusion? A hint of worry? It was as if she immediately sensed that something was missing in the air.
He stayed put, his arms snug around Ebonara’s waist, breathing in her familiar warm-and-spicy scent. But the longer the silence stretched, the more his earlier playfulness faded into confusion. What did I do? His mind raced back over the morning, trying to pinpoint his crime.
Medusa moved to sit, but Stheno caught her eye and gave a subtle gesture—quiet, sit beside me. Medusa hesitated only a moment before obeying, settling next to her sister with graceful poise.
Stheno leaned in and whispered something too low for Hyun-woo to catch. Medusa scoffed softly but said nothing, choosing instead to watch them with those piercing eyes.
The tension thickened. Ebonara finally spoke, her voice utterly flat. “Let go of me, Hyun-woo.”
His stomach dropped. He released her immediately, stepping back with his hands raised. “Ebo…?”
He looked desperately around the room. Stheno shrugged with a far-too-innocent smile. Euryale raised an eyebrow as if she had no clue. Medusa’s expression was carefully neutral. No one offered him an explanation.
That’s when it hit him… the promise.
He understood immediately.
Without another word, he moved around the couch to stand in front of Ebonara, dropped straight to his knees, and gently rested his head on her lap.
His soft cheek pressed against the smooth fabric over her thigh. With careful fingers, he reached up and gently turned her face toward him, forcing those eight gem-eyes to meet his.
“I’m sorry,” he said quietly, his voice aching with sincerity. “I guess I messed up.”
She looked down at him. Still silent. Waiting. Those crimson eyes didn’t soften yet—she wasn't going to make it easy for him. He had to say it out loud.
He let out a soft, self-deprecating laugh, his gaze searching her beautiful, monstrous face. Her eyes had begun to shift, the deep angry red bleeding into a delicate, shimmering pink that made his heart ache in the best way.
“Guess I broke my promise… huh?” he murmured, reaching for her hand. He brought it up to his face, pressing her palm against his cheek like an offering. “I won’t ask for forgiveness. But I will ask you to punish me.”
Ebonara remained silent, watching him with those shifting gem-eyes.
The pink deepened, swirling softly before slowly transitioning into a glowing, uncertain blue.
