Chapter 1297: Chapter 1296: Let Me Fight
Tara Jameson also got out of the car at this moment, her eyes red.
Seeing the two of them like this, Tara’s dad stayed silent for a long time.
"Come inside and sit."
It was pitch-dark outside and you couldn’t really see clearly, and since the guest was already at their doorstep, not inviting him in just wouldn’t be right.
So Charles Northwood came into Tara Jameson’s home. You could describe it as bare on all four sides, which showed that Tara’s family wasn’t well-off.
Outside you couldn’t see him properly; under the light, Charles Northwood was shining, like the prince on a white horse from a fairy tale.
Now that he was sitting there, though, he really seemed out of place.
Tara’s dad and mom hadn’t expected him to be this outstanding; they were clearly stunned for quite a while.
"Here, have some tea."
Tara’s dad took out the good tea someone had given them for New Year, and used disposable paper cups to brew a small cup.
Charles Northwood paused for a moment, then nodded.
"Uncle, Auntie, please don’t fuss, I’m the presumptuous one here. Dropping by like this without warning, I hope you can forgive me."
"It’s fine, it’s fine, it’s Tara who’s at fault, she never tells me anything about you."
Charles Northwood sat there awkwardly, letting them look him over.
"What’s your name, where do you live, who’s in your family?"
Tara’s mom sat down on the couch and started asking questions.
"My name is Charles Northwood, I live over in Capital Town. Our family’s pretty big, the whole clan basically lives together, and I have an older brother at home."
After hearing this, Tara’s mom nodded. He had an older brother, so it was possible he might come here to develop in the future.
But looking at such a promising young man, and a local from Capital Town, who would give up Capital Town to come to a little place like this where you can’t really make money?
"Did you and Tara meet at School? So you’re a student too?"
"Mom, stop asking. He drove all the way here, he must be tired. Let him rest first."
Tara cut off her parents’ scrutiny and household registration–style questioning.
"Alright, alright, we overlooked that. You can just make do at our place tonight. I don’t know if you’ll be used to staying in a rural house. There’s not much else here, but we do have plenty of rooms."
Tara awkwardly pulled Charles Northwood out of the Living Room, and only after they walked out of her parents’ line of sight did she finally breathe out.
"My dad and mom are just like that, don’t take it to heart."
She led him to a Guest Room and took out new sheets and a duvet cover to make up the bed for him.
Watching her busying herself, Charles Northwood felt a warm glow in his heart.
For a split second, in a daze, he felt that maybe many years from now their life would be just like this.
Being able to see the woman he loves become his wife and make the bed for him—that should be the happiest thing.
"Get some rest early. You’re leaving tomorrow."
After saying this, Tara turned around to go.
"I’m sorry."
Suddenly, Charles Northwood’s apology rang out, and Tara’s movement to leave paused.
"When we were facing a difficult situation, I shouldn’t have asked you to compromise. That was too unfair to you."
Charles Northwood smiled, walked up to her, and looked into her eyes.
"This time, you don’t need to compromise. I’ll be the one to fight. Tara Jameson, I only hope that while I’m struggling at the front, you’ll always stand behind me, with your heart unchanged."
Tara was taken aback, not quite understanding what he meant, but his gaze was so steady that it gave her an inexplicable sense of security.
