Flash Marriage: My Penniless Billionaire Husband
Chapter 353: I’m Just Doing What A Husband Is Supposed To Do
"Calm down, Miss White. I’m just saying ’IF’ it happens. And if that day really comes, don’t worry, I’ll see what I can do."
With that, he took Yvonne’s hand and left, leaving the audience gazing at each other.
Grace felt as if she had gone for wool and came back shorn.
On the way home, Yvonne said apologetically, "Sorry for the trouble today, James."
"Come on, Yvonne. We’re husband and wife, remember?" James said.
Still, she couldn’t help feeling guilty, knowing he must have been affected by her family scandals that were so appalling and that would never happen in his own family.
"Thanks again, anyway," she said.
He frowned, "I’m just doing what a husband is supposed to do; there is no need for thanks."
The two got in the car.
"By the way, is the audio real?"
Yvonne had been haunted by this question, and when she first heard it, she was, like others, fairly shocked.
It might seem to others they’d made a detailed plan before they acted, otherwise they wouldn’t cooperate so well.
However, as a matter of fact, she hadn’t got a clue what he had on hand.
And she even planned to threaten Grace with the affair between Grace and her father.
"It is real, but the witness isn’t," he gave her a sly smile.
"Ah? Then you’re taking a gamble?" Yvonne was surprised.
When he said there was a witness, he said with such an air of confidence that even the cunning Grace was convinced.
James chuckled, "Yes, I was. I gambled that Grace was too guilty to see the witness." Yvonne nodded her consent.
It suddenly occurred to her it was really unscrupulous of Grace to make use of Jeanette to deceive him.
"Have you any plan today?" James asked.
She shook her head.
James grinned, "Great, let’s go somewhere interesting." The car pulled over the busiest business street of Tomaville.
James unfastened the seat belt and got off. Yvonne followed him, little knowing what he was planning to do.
He said, "Let’s take a walk in there."
And they walked into the crowd one after another.
They entered a jewelry store.
James said, "Your mother’s jewelry box reminded me you might need some. Go and pick whatever you like."
Yvonne replied, "No, I’m good. Thanks. I’ve had enough jewelry already. Besides, my job prohibits me from wearing it."
"Well, you don’t have to wear it to keep it," he insisted.
Then he took hold of her hand and brought her to the display cases.
"Bring me the best pieces you’ve got here," James demanded.
The shop assistants, aware that finally there was a lavish buyer here, hurried away to take the jewelry.
Yvonne said, "Don’t bother that, I don’t need it."
"Let’s take a look what they’ve got first."
While they were talking, a man, presumably the manager, approached. He recognized James at first sight and attentively showed them into a cozy little room.
...
As the assistants hurried to and from one piece of dazzling jewelry and another was presented before Yvonne, which, however, was a headache for her.
She was not particularly into jewelry and wouldn’t normally wear it.
But seeing these people busying themselves with her services, she found it hard to decline them and decided to opt for a few pieces.
"I’ll take these."
She pointed to a pair of inconspicuous earrings.
James cast a glance at them and said, "You needn’t have to do this."
Yvonne said, "I really don’t need much jewelry."
James decided he’d better chose some for her instead, and said, "I’ll see what suits you."
He pointed his finger in the direction of some pieces he had his eye on and said, "Pack up these pieces for me, please. And don’t forget the earrings."
The manager was more than glad to do so.
As they walked out of the store, the assistants followed carrying loads of bags with them.
They put them into the car.
James checked the time and said, "Let’s go for lunch. I know a nice restaurant nearby. Let me book a table."
He was about to make a call when Yvonne interrupted, "Actually, I’d like to eat something simpler."
Half an hour later, their car stopped at a MC Donald’s.
James shrugged his shoulders and sighed in his heart: "When do I get to have a decent meal with her?"
Yvonne walked in and ordered a hamburger, a hot drink, and some French fries.
Then she turned around to James, "What about you?"
He replied, "The same as yours."
She nodded and said to the assistant, "Make it two."
James added, "No ketchup."
Yvonne was a little surprised. "You don’t like it?"
The truth was, he used to like it a lot, but ever since he learned she disliked it, he had made up his mind to give it up.
But he certainly wouldn’t tell her about it, and he replied, "Of course."
Yvonne stared at him in suspicion... it was just a little bit too coincidental.
Yet it meant nothing except they shared similar preferences.
The food and two steaming hot drinks were soon served on the table.
As Yvonne was about to take her drink, James shouted out, "Watch out! It’s burning." With that, he shot out his hand to grab it and moved it in front of her.
Yonne inadvertently noticed there was slight redness on his fingers and asked, "Are you alright?"
James clumsily hid his hand behind him and said, "Not a big deal."
They started eating.
...
Although it was a casual meal.
But the food tasted, so the two of them ate happily.
On the way back, Yvonne said to James, "Let’s stop by the supermarket in front."
Without asking why, James parked the car in the parking lot at the gate of the supermarket.
"Wait for me. I’ll go grab something."
She unfastened her seatbelt and said.
He said, "I’ll go with you."
"It’s okay. There are so many things in the car. You’d better stay here. I’ll be back soon."
With that, she got out of the car in a hurry and ran into the supermarket.
James had no choice but to stay in the car. He took out a cigarette and lit it. While he was smoking, his phone suddenly rang.
He took it out and glanced at it. Seeing that it was his mother’s call, he picked it up.
"James, you and Yvonne have been married for days. Why haven’t you come visit me yet? Have you forgotten about your mother?"
Hearing his mom’s words, James realized they hadn’t visited her.
He had been busy adjusting to his married life with Yvonne and had forgotten about his mom.
He quickly said, "Mom, sorry. It’s not true. I’ll talk to Yvonne and we’ll go visit you in a couple of days."
"Why not today. Today is a good day. I’ll get the helpers to prepare a nice dinner. You and Yvonne can come over for tonight."
Without waiting for a reply, she hung up.
James could only swallow back his words.
Not long after, Yvonne walked out of the supermarket with a large shopping bag.
Seeing this, James quickly got out of the car and took the bag from her hand. It was quite heavy and he asked, "What did you buy? It’s so heavy."
"Just daily necessities."
She was a little embarrassed.
He had moved in in in such a hurry that she hadn’t had time to get all that was needed.
So she took the opportunity to buy some of the items.
"This is for you."
After getting in the car, she took out a small box from the shopping bag and handed it to him.
He was fastening his seatbelt when he saw her handing him a box. Surprised, he asked, "This is for me?"
She nodded her head.
He was surprised. He opened it and found that it was an automatic razor.
His face was filled of joy. "I like it very much."
When she heard him, she was somewhat relieved.
James had given her so much jewelry, she wanted to gift something back to him, but she didn’t know what to give him. Besides, he was far richer than her and already possessed all the good stuff that he needed.
So, when she passed by the small home appliance area in the supermarket, a promotor had stopped her and introduced to her some of the latest razors launched in the market. She thought they were pretty cool and so she bought one for him.
At first, she was worried that he would think nothing of it. Seeing that he liked it so much, she was relieved.
"As long as you like it."
James put the razor away and turned to her, "My mom just called and wants us to go over for dinner tonight."
When he suddenly mentioned it, she was caught off guard and froze for a moment.
Seeing this, he hurriedly said, "I know it’s too hasty. If you don’t want to..."
"Let’s go."
She interrupted him.
He was a little stunned.
"I just felt a little stunned but since we are married, we should go meet your family."
She explained.
Hearing this, James was quite happy.
"Thank you, my darling."
"But, I don’t know what to buy. Can you tell me what your mom likes?" asked Yvonne.
