Chapter 940: 939 conditions
Chapter 940: 939 conditions
Gu Kai’s handsome face darkened, and his attractive brows furrowed, “Ranran, did Li Yaqing use this to threaten Mo Xiuchen?”
“I guess so,” Wen Ran nodded.
“Who exactly is this Li Yaqing?”
Gu Kai’s brows tightened, a shadow falling over his handsome face. He placed the chicken leg he had barely bitten back into the bowl, his gaze fixed intently on Wen Ran.
Wen Ran smiled faintly and said, “Brother, eat first. After we eat, I’ll tell you.”
Gu Kai blinked, the clouds in his brow clearing away, “Okay!”
**
An elegant restaurant in G City.
After the waiter served the dishes, Li Yaqing warmly invited Mo Xiuchen, “Mo General, let’s talk while we eat.” As she spoke, she picked up her chopsticks and served Mo Xiuchen some food first.
“You eat. I’ll eat when I get home.” Mo Xiuchen’s gaze swept indifferently over the food she placed in front of him. A trace of disgust flashed through his eyes, his handsome brow marked with indifference.
Li Yaqing was not disheartened, maintaining an elegant smile on her face. If the man across from her were not Mo Xiuchen, perhaps he would have been charmed by Li Yaqing’s seductive and sensuous yet elegant demeanor.
Being as beautiful and capable as she was, and coming from an excellent family background, she had many suitors.
However, Li Yaqing had never taken any of those men seriously. At twenty-eight, she had never felt affection for any man, not even experiencing the most basic of young girl’s first loves.
It was on the day she returned to the country that a man on television caught her eye — that man was Mo Xiuchen, who at the time was appearing on the screen with Wen Ran.
Later, she found out the man’s name was Mo Xiuchen.
He was the subject of long-standing rumors in G City.
Li Yaqing’s face wore a charming smile as she enviously said, “Mo General is really a good man, entertaining outside yet still planning to go home to dine with Mrs. Mo. No wonder Mrs. Mo broke her vows to be with you.”
Mo Xiuchen’s gaze suddenly turned icy, his aura becoming cold and intimidating as she spoke, “Who told you that?”
“Mo General, don’t be upset. Since we’re out, let’s not go hungry. If we end up talking for a long time and you get sick from hunger, Mrs. Mo would be worried,” she said.
Li Yaqing feigned calmness while maintaining her smile.
“Li Yaqing, do you really think that a vow can threaten me?” Mo Xiuchen, tired of beating around the bush, was blunt and coldly sarcastic.
“Mo General, you’ve misunderstood. I wasn’t trying to threaten you. I only called this afternoon to confirm the accuracy of that news. You know, I’m not like those magazines that write nonsense…”
“State your terms,” Mo Xiuchen leaned back in his chair, then suddenly sat up straight, leaning forward slightly with a powerful aura that overwhelmed Li Yaqing.
Although it wasn’t the first time Li Yaqing faced the imposing Mo Xiuchen, she still felt a tremor in her heart, hesitating whether to wait longer when Mo Xiuchen’s phone began to ring.
“Mo General, please take the call first.”
Li Yaqing spoke thoughtfully. Mo Xiuchen didn’t respond, pulling out his phone and, seeing the caller ID, the corners of his mouth lifted in an ambiguous smile. Seeing this, an inexplicable unease sprang up in Li Yaqing’s heart.
“Hello!”
Mo Xiuchen pressed the answer button, his voice deep and resonant.
“Mo Xiuchen, I’ve found what you wanted. The real inside story is like this…”
Mo Xiuchen’s tall frame leaned back into the chair, listening to Qin Mu’s deep words on the other end of the phone. His initially cold demeanor gradually softened, and the smile on his lips was inscrutable.
Within two minutes, he spoke less than ten words, hung up the phone, and looked at Li Yaqing, speaking calmly, “Now you can speak!”
Li Yaqing’s brows slightly furrowed.
Her intuition told her that the phone call Mo Xiuchen just received definitely had something to do with her.
After hanging up the phone, his mood seemed better, not as indifferent as before. Of course, she wouldn’t foolishly think that was because he had a change of heart and was now treating her better.
“Since you are not stating your conditions, I’ll start.”
Mo Xiuchen elegantly picked up a water glass from the table and took a sip before placing it back down. His palms flipped, fingers slightly curved and trembling lightly on the edge of the table, ignoring Li Yaqing. He parted his thin lips and spoke at an unhurried pace,
“Five years ago, your father Li Yunchang was involved in an economic crime…”
Li Yaqing’s exquisite and beautiful face gradually turned pale with Mo Xiuchen’s words. The elegance and charm she had just exhibited disappeared, and her beautiful face was a mix of shock, horror, anger, and emotions she could not even express herself.
Seeing her pale face, Mo Xiuchen stopped.
“I’ll just say half for now. After you state your conditions, I’ll continue with the rest.”
“When did you start investigating my father and me?” As Li Yaqing spoke, she realized her voice was quivering significantly.
Before coming here, she was full of confidence, believing that Mo Xiuchen would agree to all her conditions for Wen Ran’s sake. Mo Xiuchen’s love for Wen Ran was known to all in G City. For Wen Ran, he had even fallen out with his father.
With his memory loss, he had fallen in love with Wen Ran again. Now, to meet with her for Wen Ran’s sake, how could he not compromise?
But she had not anticipated that Mo Xiuchen would investigate her father’s case so thoroughly. If it were just her father’s involvement, she wouldn’t be so worried, as that matter had been cleanly dealt with back then, and Mo Xiuchen definitely wouldn’t be able to uncover anything in a short time.
But there was her own secret. How did he find out about that?
Mo Xiuchen gave her a brief, indifferent glance, his lips curving into a sharp, icy smile, “Trade what you know.”
Li Yaqing’s complexion changed, “It was Mo Jingteng’s bodyguards who told me.”
“Why would they tell you that?” Mo Xiuchen’s eyes narrowed sharply. Although Mo Jingteng had passed away, those two bodyguards were still around.
Unable to withstand Mo Xiuchen’s piercing gaze, Li Yaqing lowered her head, speaking somewhat awkwardly, “I approached them myself. I didn’t mean anything by it, just that I request you to agree and accept my interview.”
Mo Xiuchen scoffed disdainfully, “For an interview, Miss Li goes to such lengths. I doubt that’s all there is to it.”
“I really didn’t mean anything else,” Li Yaqing pursed her lips, stubbornly lifted her head to meet Mo Xiuchen’s icy gaze, gritted her teeth, and admitted, “Alright, I like you. I have liked you since the first time I saw you. I initially planned to meet you under the guise of discussing a loan. But you missed the appointment and didn’t show up. Later, when I came to your company to see you, you threw me out, and I swore then that I would make you the subject of my exclusive interview.”
Mo Xiuchen said nothing, but the aura exuding from him grew even colder.
Li Yaqing was too confident in herself; who did she think Mo Xiuchen was? Just because she liked him, did she think she could threaten him, or even, fulfill her desires?
