Chapter 1775: 1774: Not for Your Gratitude

Chapter 1775: Chapter 1774: Not for Your Gratitude

“Of course I know, Uncle Luo couldn’t possibly meet Aunt Qiao at this time.”

Mo Xiuchen explained with a frown, “Maybe someone knew about their relationship and used his name to trick Aunt Qiao into meeting. Didn’t Zhiyan just say that place is a blind spot for surveillance?”

Luo Haofeng was about to respond when his phone suddenly rang.

“It’s my mom calling.”

When he saw the call, his brow immediately furrowed.

Beside him, Mo Xiuchen and Gu Kai’s handsome faces changed slightly, looking at him with concerned eyes.

Lu Zhiyan’s phone also rang, and he got up to take the call in the hallway outside.

“Hello, Mom.”

“Haofeng, be honest with me, are you with Bai Xiaoxiao?”

As soon as Luo Haofeng spoke, his mother’s sharp questioning voice came through the phone.

Hearing this, his face suddenly changed, and he stood up from the sofa, “Mom, why are you asking this?”

“Why am I asking this, you should ask your good father, he’s willing to do anything for that cheap woman and her daughter.”

Mother Bai’s voice was so sharp and harsh that it made Luo Haofeng’s heart sink.

There was a bone-deep hatred in it; if Mother Bai and Bai Xiaoxiao were in front of her, Mother Luo might have rushed up to fight.

“Mom, where are you and Dad now?”

“We’re in G City, Luo Rongbin ditched me to see his old lover. Not only did he refuse to go on vacation with me, but he also sneaked off to G City on his own.”

“…”

The situation came too suddenly, and for a moment, Luo Haofeng felt a bit chaotic inside.

Did his father really come to see Xiaoxiao’s mother?

Could it be that the note was indeed sent by him?

If so, would Mother Bai’s kidnapping have anything to do with…

Luo Haofeng didn’t dare to think further; the more he thought about it, the more it frightened him.

“Mom, are you saying my dad came to G City to see Xiaoxiao’s mom? How is that possible? Are you misunderstanding him?”

“Hmph, I would love it to be a misunderstanding, but the fact is, you father and son are in cahoots to deceive me. Ah Feng, if you don’t want me to confront that little wench Bai Xiaoxiao, you better come over.”

**

After hanging up the phone, Luo Haofeng said to Mo Xiuchen and Gu Kai, “My mom and dad are in G City. I need to go meet them now. I’ll call you with details once I see them.”

“Go ahead.”

Mo Xiuchen nodded. Gu Kai’s brows were tightly knit, unable to relax.

“Please let Xiaoxiao know that I’ve left.” Luo Haofeng finished speaking and left Gu Kai’s office with big strides.

“Xiuchen, what do you think is going on? It seems to be getting more and more complicated.”

Gu Kai leaned forward, picked up a cigarette from the coffee table, and looked at Mo Xiuchen inquiringly if he wanted a smoke.

Mo Xiuchen shook his head, and Gu Kai put the cigarette back on the table.

Lu Zhiyan finished his call and entered the office, “Did Luo Haofeng say he had something to do and leave?”

“Yes, his parents came to G City.” After Mo Xiuchen finished, he continued the topic he had with Gu Kai earlier, “The coincidence of Aunt Qiao’s kidnapping is too much.”

“Yes, Ah Feng and Xiaoxiao were in contact without their parents knowing. And recently, his mom has had Uncle Luo being solicitous. How did she happen to find out about them now?”

Gu Kai agreed with Mo Xiuchen’s analysis.

Lu Zhiyan was unaware of the grievances between the Bai and Luo families.

Regarding Mother Bai meeting with someone and Luo Haofeng’s parents coming to G City, he was completely in the dark.

“Zhiyan, get someone to check if Ah Feng’s father went to that café Aunt Qiao mentioned.”

Mo Xiuchen gave Gu Kai a look, prompting him to get up immediately, return to his desk, retrieve a laptop, and show a photo of Luo Rongbin to Lu Zhiyan.

“Okay, I’ll have someone look into it right away.” Lu Zhiyan called someone after seeing Luo Rongbin’s photo.

Meanwhile, in the VIP hospital room…

Meng Ke lay on the hospital bed in a hospital gown, and the room was crowded with people.

There was Mr. Bai, Mother Bai, Meng Ke’s mother and aunt, Li Shi Yao, along with Wen Ran and Bai Xiaoxiao; it was indeed very crowded.

“Mom, Aunt, let’s go out first and let Sister Xiaoxiao and Cousin talk.”

Hearing her words, Mother Bai immediately reacted and said to Wen Ran, who was standing next to Bai Xiaoxiao, “Ranran, let’s go out too.”

“Alright, Aunt Qiao.”

Wen Ran glanced at Meng Ke on the hospital bed, then at Bai Xiaoxiao, and left the room with Mr. Bai and Mother Bai.

After everyone left the room, only Bai Xiaoxiao and Meng Ke were left inside.

“Xiaoxiao, have a seat.”

Meng Ke’s face was covered with several bruises, on his forehead, both cheeks, chin, and mouth corners, almost no untouched areas.

The part where the kidnapper stabbed him with a dagger was on his abdomen, hidden under the blanket where it couldn’t be seen.

Bai Xiaoxiao remembered the sound of the iron rod hitting him and his muffled grunts she heard over the phone.

Her delicate brows furrowed tightly.

“Meng Ke, thank you for saving my mom.”

Bai Xiaoxiao sincerely thanked him.

She couldn’t imagine what the kidnappers might have done to her mom had Meng Ke not stumbled upon the scene.

Although Meng Ke was injured, her mom was unharmed.

This made Bai Xiaoxiao feel an overwhelming sense of guilt.

Meng Ke, however, smiled weakly and said in a low voice, “Xiaoxiao, I didn’t save Auntie to gain your thanks. It was something I had to do; seeing Auntie being kidnapped, I couldn’t just stand by.”

His speech was slow, each word heartfelt and moving.

“Did you recognize anything about those kidnappers?”

Bai Xiaoxiao gazed at Meng Ke intensely.

Meng Ke thought for a moment and said, “I’m not sure about their identities, but from their accents, they didn’t sound like G City residents.”

“Yes, I heard your conversation over the phone too, and they didn’t seem local to me either.”

Bai Xiaoxiao recalled the voices she heard during the phone call.

“Xiaoxiao, those people may have escaped, but the police will surely catch them.” Meng Ke paused and added, “It’s fortunate that Auntie is unharmed.”

“But you’ve been so seriously injured. You won’t be able to leave the hospital for at least ten days to half a month.”

“It’s fine; it’s the Spring Festival anyway, so I’ll just treat it as a vacation.”

Meng Ke didn’t seem to mind his injuries.

He even tried to comfort Bai Xiaoxiao, “Xiaoxiao, it’s just an injury, not a loss of life. Don’t feel guilty; I’ll just need some rest and I’ll be fine.”

“…”

Bai Xiaoxiao opened her mouth but didn’t know what to say.

Words of gratitude, when said too much, can feel insincere.

What Meng Ke did for her mom couldn’t just be offset by a few words of thanks, leaving Bai Xiaoxiao feeling both grateful and apologetic to him.

As well as frustrated.

Originally, her mom liked Meng Ke. After this incident, she feared her mom would change her mind and push for them to be together.

From her mom’s attitude towards Meng Ke earlier, she already had a bad premonition.
