Gratitude flickered across Bai Yiyi’s face as she listened to Gu Kai speak in his low voice, “My dad, like Ranran, definitely hopes for our happiness. You have Aunt Bai stay here worry-free, these days my dad is busy with social engagements, once Ranran and the others return, we can all have a meal together.”

“Thank you, and I want to find a time to meet with Fang Zhiwei.”

Bai Yiyi interrupted Gu Kai, feeling guilt over Professor Fang’s death.

Although she didn’t write that letter, it was sent in her name. Moreover, she did break her promise to Fang Zhiwei that she didn’t have feelings for Gu Kai.

Now, she had fallen in love with the man before her.

“Why do you want to meet her?” Gu Kai looked at Bai Yiyi quizzically.

Out of selfishness, he didn’t want Bai Yiyi to meet Fang Zhiwei. Fang Zhiwei likely harbored resentment over her father’s death, and now with depression, if she acted impulsively and hurt Bai Yiyi, it wouldn’t be good.

“I told her before that I didn’t like you, but now we’re together.” Bai Yiyi frowned slightly, “Ah Kai, Fang Zhiwei isn’t a bad woman. Her only fault is being too obsessed with you. I hope she can move on. Regardless of the outcome, I still want to try and help her if possible, and if not, at least I’ll have a clear conscience.”

“Yiyi.”

The tone in Gu Kai’s eyes changed, the gentle call seeped with three parts of emotion.

Bai Yiyi and Fang Zhiwei originally had nothing to do with each other, but it was because of him that she got involved.

Initially, Fang Zhiwei probably had her guard up against Bai Yiyi, but Bai Yiyi not only didn’t take it to heart but also wanted to help Fang Zhiwei out of the shadows of depression and emotional wounds.

Ultimately, Fang Zhiwei did it for him.

Just like he accepted Bai Yuqin, it was for her.

After New Year’s Eve, Bai Yiyi didn’t want Fang Zhiwei to do anything hurtful to herself. If something really happened, Gu Kai would likely feel a bit guilty.

“You can meet Fang Zhiwei, but I won’t be at ease if you go alone. Wait until Ranran returns, and have her accompany you.” Gu Kai hesitated before making an arrangement.

“Yiyi, go downstairs; after my bath, I’ll sleep, and you don’t need to stay here.”

After taking her medicine, Bai Yuqin urged Bai Yiyi to leave.

Bai Yiyi said with a smile, “Mom, Ah Kai wants me to stay here with you. I’ll run the bathwater for you, and after you take a bath and sleep, I’ll head downstairs.”

“Alright then.”

Bai Yuqin felt moved, smiling helplessly.

Bai Yiyi ran the bathwater for her and reminded her a few things before leaving the bathroom, then she sat on the single sofa in the bedroom and dialed Wen Ran’s number.

The phone rang a few times, and a childish voice came through, “Hello!”

It was Ziyi who answered.

Besides his voice, there were Momo and Xinxin’s voices. A smile bloomed between Bai Yiyi’s brows as she softly asked, “Ziyi, where’s your mom?”

“Mom.”

Ziyi excitedly called out, and Wen Ran took the phone from beside him, her cheerful voice came through: “Hi, Yiyi.”

“Ranran, am I interrupting your romance with Mo Xiuchen?”

Bai Yiyi reclined lazily on the sofa, teasedly asking.

“Mo Xiuchen and I are an old married couple; we don’t need romance, as long as we don’t interfere with your romance with my brother. At this rate, it might not be long before I call you sister-in-law.”

“Not that fast, wouldn’t it be a waste if they didn’t date for three to five years before getting married.”

As Wen Ran finished speaking, Bai Yiyi heard Mo Xiuchen’s leisurely voice.

Those words were clearly said to Wen Ran, but hearing them made Bai Yiyi’s mouth twitch.

Then came Wen Ran’s laughter, unrestrained in her delight and teasing: “Oh, Yiyi, don’t listen to Mo Xiuchen, he just doesn’t want to call you sister-in-law and prefers you two to date forever without marrying.”

“Ranran, how can you say that about me?” Not sure what Mo Xiuchen did to Wen Ran, she screamed, then giggled.

“Ranran, I really shouldn’t have called you.” Bai Yiyi joked, “I can’t be a third wheel over the phone, but with you two flaunting your love like this, aren’t you considering my feelings?”

“What feelings?” Wen Ran chuckled a few times, “Yiyi, did you call because something’s up?”

She already knew in the morning that Bai Yiyi and her brother were together, so she wouldn’t call to tell her that.

So there must be something going on.

“Yes, there’s a little something.” Bai Yiyi also ended the jokes, and spoke seriously, “Ranran, I heard Fang Zhiwei has been with you all these days.”

“Did my brother tell you?”

Wen Ran’s voice carried a hint of surprise, Bai Yiyi ‘uh-huh’ and continued, “Is Fang Zhiwei’s depression serious? How have her emotions been these past few days since New Year’s Eve?”

“Yiyi, why are you asking this?”

Wen Ran queried in confusion.

“I want to see her, but Ah Kai said to wait till you return to see her. That’s why I want to first ask how Fang Zhiwei’s current condition is.”

She wanted to first understand Fang Zhiwei’s situation.

“These days she’s been with us, and she’s mostly happy. Although she occasionally zones out, she went back today. Did she call my brother?”

That last question, Wen Ran paused for a moment before asking.
