Chapter 53: Chapter 53: His Goodness

Qiao Suluo shook her head. "It doesn’t hurt. It feels much better now."

For a split second, her nose had stung, but after rubbing it, the discomfort faded. She was fine.

"Don’t apologize. It’s not your fault," she continued. "I was the one who suddenly stopped and turned around."

Bai Qianluo’s eyes were already in poor condition, so he naturally wouldn’t have anticipated her sudden movement. It was entirely her fault. Seeing him so tense made her feel guilty.

"Your eyes must be really uncomfortable like this. Let me put the blindfold back on for you."

Saying this, Qiao Suluo took the white cloth strip and prepared to stand on her tiptoes to tie it for him. However, Bai Qianluo instinctively bent down, making it easier for her to reach.

Watching him bend over, Qiao Suluo’s heart skipped a beat. He was truly beautiful—as clear and pure as glazed glass, carrying the crisp freshness of rain-washed bamboo leaves. He exuded an unearthly, pristine aura. Despite seeming completely detached from mortal desires, he was incredibly attentive to the feelings of others.

He was even willing to bend down for her.

Her eyes flickered with emotion as she stepped closer, reaching out to tie the white cloth over his eyes. Since she had to lean in close to secure the blindfold, she could smell his scent—a crisp, refreshing fragrance like winter snow. It was subtle, yet utterly captivating, making her breath catch in her throat.

It wasn’t just Qiao Suluo who noticed this proximity. Bai Qianluo could also smell the faint, elegant floral scent clinging to her. It wasn’t overpowering, but rather carried the crispness of the air after a spring rain, causing his heart to flutter softly.

"All done," she said.

"Thank you, wife."

His voice was slightly hoarse, lacking its usual aloofness, betraying the turmoil in his heart.

Qiao Suluo naturally didn’t notice anything amiss. "You don’t need to be so polite. I didn’t really do anything."

She felt that both Que Hongjin and Bai Qianluo possessed an exceptional level of inherent refinement. Spending time with them was incredibly comfortable. It was such a pity that these outstanding men had been abandoned by their families simply because of their injuries and physical ailments. She couldn’t help but feel sorry for them.

Bai Qianluo asked softly, "Wife, were you trying to say something earlier?"

Reminded by his question, Qiao Suluo finally remembered her original train of thought. "Yes, I wanted to ask—can you smell medicinal herbs?"

It was only thanks to his acute sense of smell that they had managed to find the Peach Blossom Forest earlier. However, she wasn’t sure if he could specifically track down the scent of herbs. They had been wandering the mountain forest for quite a while without finding anything, and she was inevitably starting to feel a bit anxious.

Bai Qianluo’s expression shifted slightly, his voice peaceful and gentle. "Are you looking for medicinal herbs, wife? What kind of herbs? I’ll help you find them."

"Any kind will do, as long as it’s medicinal," Qiao Suluo replied.

Although she now possessed the abilities of a Divine Doctor and had awakened a Healing Ability, her power reserves were currently at zero. She needed the Pill Furnace in her palm to devour medicinal herbs and convert them into Healing Ability. Only then would she be able to heal their bodies. Otherwise, the ability was completely useless.

Bai Qianluo’s voice was soft and deep. "Don’t worry, wife. I will help you find them."

Since his wife needed herbs, he was willing to tap into the residual power left in his body to assist her, even if it meant further damaging himself.

Hearing this, Qiao Suluo’s eyes lit up. "You really can?" she exclaimed. "Bai Qianluo, thank you!"

"I am happy to be of help. There is no need for thanks." Pausing for a moment, Bai Qianluo’s voice took on an ethereal quality, as crisp as snow falling in an empty valley. "The path to find the herbs will be difficult to navigate. Please hold my hand, wife, and I will lead you there."

With that, he extended his hand.

His fingers were long, slender, and as pale as snow. Upon closer inspection, she noticed calluses on his fingertips, likely from years of wielding a pen. Even his knuckles were beautiful.

Placing her chubby little hand in his made her feel a bit self-conscious. It reminded her of the other day when she had physically touched him to provide mental appeasement. The moment she rested her hand against his, however, Bai Qianluo firmly clasped it. His grip was gentle yet carried a steady, reassuring strength.

As their hands locked together, Qiao Suluo felt the jade-like coolness of his palm against the burning warmth of her own. The contrast sent a slight tremor through her, as if a faint electric current had traveled from her hand straight to her heart.

Previously, when she gave him mental appeasement, she had been too focused on the task to overthink the physical contact. Now, simply holding hands gave her a thrilling, electrifying sensation. In her past life, she had been entirely dedicated to culinary arts and had never even held a boy’s hand.

In a daze, she let Bai Qianluo lead her forward. He would occasionally remind her to watch her step. Because of his long legs, he deliberately slowed his pace to ensure she could keep up, thoughtful in every detail.

Before she knew it, they had arrived at a valley.

"There should be quite a few medicinal herbs here," he said.

Qiao Suluo looked ahead, her eyes brightening. Indeed, she spotted numerous common herbs: licorice root, purslane, capillary wormwood, and more. Although they were all ordinary plants, as long as they possessed medicinal properties, they could be converted into Healing Ability.

"They really are herbs! Bai Qianluo, you’re amazing to have found so many!" Fueled by her excitement, her voice rang with cheerful jubilation.

Sensing her joyous mood, Bai Qianluo’s expression softened. "As long as you are happy, wife."

However, using his powers had taken a toll on his body, leaving him deeply unwell. An urge to cough rose in his throat. Bai Qianluo tried desperately to suppress it, but failed.

"COUGH, COUGH!"

He fell into a fit of uncontrollable coughing.

At that moment, Qiao Suluo had just reached out, using her mind to control the Pill Furnace in her palm to devour the medicinal essence of the herbs. Hearing his violent coughs, she turned around. Under the sunlight, his skin appeared even paler than before, bordering on translucent. His slender frame looked incredibly frail, and as the mountain breeze ruffled his clothes, it amplified his fragile, glass-like beauty.

The sight made Qiao Suluo’s heart ache fiercely.

She quickly devoured more of the medicinal essence, instantly converting it into Healing Ability. A soft white light began to emanate from her palm, and she could feel the Pill Furnace brimming with warm healing power.

She rushed to Bai Qianluo’s side and supported him. "Bai Qianluo, let me help you sit down over there for a moment."

She guided him to a nearby boulder and helped him sit. Then, she placed her hand against his back and channeled the Healing Ability directly into his body. Lacking a deep understanding of how this power worked, she simply poured all of it into him at once.

"Wife... what... is this?"

Bai Qianluo had been coughing weakly, cold sweat beading on his forehead from the intense physical agony. This was the lingering consequence of having his Blood Power stripped away. His body was constantly tormented by this excruciating pain, especially in the dead of night. During the day, he forced himself to never show vulnerability in front of others. Today, however, straining his residual powers to find the herbs had triggered a severe relapse.

He had long grown accustomed to the agony. Yet, in this very moment, he felt a powerful restorative force flooding his system. His physical traumas were actively being mended.

This wasn’t just mental appeasement—this was a true Healing Ability.

The shock was so profound that his body began to tremble. How could this be? Unlike the injuries sustained by Que Hongjin and the others, his condition was supposed to be irreversible and incurable.

But right now, he was witnessing a miracle. This was the power of miracles.

Even his vision seemed to grow clearer, and the stinging pain caused by the harsh sunlight completely vanished.
