First-Year Internship—And You Went to Site 749 to Contain Monsters?!

Chapter 1187: Do You Really Have to Do This? Not Holding Back at All?

  • Next Chapter

What a display.

Overbearing!!!

The observant thieves took one look from afar and ran. There were demonic creatures!!!!

Back in Wushuang City, they landed at the Shen Family estate.

Lu Ding left Shen Lingfeng to go check on Fatty. He still had things to take care of.

No beating around the bush.

No quietly building things up, then clashing with the local powers, losing, and having the protagonist Lu Ding show up to show off. That classic bit.

If you have power, you have to use it.

If you’re going to show off, you have to do it with flair, with style. You can’t make it feel stiff. The same old predictable routine was no fun, and everyone could see it coming.

Lu Ding sat high in the Shen Family’s main hall and gave orders to the Shen Family servants. It was admittedly a bit of an overreach, but Lu Ding had helped Shen Lingfeng reclaim control of the entire Shen Family. What was wrong with making use of it?

Facing the Shen Family servants, who stood in terrified silence, Lu Ding spoke. “Go. Notify the influential families in the city. Every family, every household. Have them prepare a banquet at the finest restaurant in the city and wait for me. Don’t tell me who comes. Remember who doesn’t, and report back to me later.”

“If anyone asks who I am, tell them: Lü Mountain’s direct disciple, the Great Han’s special envoy, the man who wiped out the entire Jin Family. Lu Ding!”

The Shen Family servants hurriedly nodded and rushed out.

But after they had taken only a few steps, one of them belatedly realized something was off.

Wait a minute.

He turned back. “Immortal Master, I may not have heard you clearly. Did you say you were going to prepare a banquet at the finest restaurant in the city and invite all the influential families?”

As he said this, he was trembling. The moment he asked, he regretted it. He feared that, like certain ill-tempered powerhouses, Lu Ding would strike him just for saying the wrong thing.

After all.

They knew what this man had done at the Shen Family earlier.

But Lu Ding wasn’t as brutal as he had imagined.

He smiled. “You did hear me wrong. I said to have them prepare a banquet.”

The servant froze.

You’re the one looking for people, and you’re making them prepare a banquet for you.

You...

You’re really something.

The servants didn’t dare ask any more questions. One by one, they set off for the homes of the city’s influential families.

After they had left,

Secretary Qiu, standing nearby, had already figured out what Lu Ding was thinking. “Do you really have to do this? Not hold back at all? You weren’t like this when you first arrived in New City.”

Lu Ding leaned back. “Hold back? Different times and different circumstances call for different approaches.”

“New City was our own territory. Even though it had a new system of laws and administration, I was still a 749 investigator. I had to avoid causing unnecessary trouble. At the very least, I was drawing a government salary.”

“But this isn’t New City, and it’s certainly not the Great Han.”

“And here, my standing in the local pecking order is higher than it was when I first arrived in New City.”

“I have power. Why should I take things slow with them and go through all those classic routines?”

As he spoke, Lu Ding gazed into the distance, an imposing aura slowly spilling out of him. “There are no bounds to the land, no laws in the heavens. Those who follow me prosper; those who defy me perish. I can be Homelander, or I can be Ancestorlander.”

“The difference depends on where I am and what side I’m on.”

Secretary Qiu was helpless.

That was true enough.

But...

Sigh...

He was glad Lu Ding had joined the 749 Bureau.

Otherwise, the Great Han would have had a massive headache. Just look at what he was doing out here. If he went even a little astray, the consequences would be terrifying.

For him, the process truly didn’t matter. Only the result did.

He was simply a natural at breaking new ground. It was just that the outside world didn’t rate him very highly.

Elsewhere,

The Shen Family servants sent to the homes of the city’s influential families arrived one after another.

Although Lu Ding had been blunt and direct,

they added a little polish when passing on his message, making it sound less forceful and arrogant.

For example,

at the residence of the Diao Family in Wushuang City.

A Shen Family servant met the Diao Family patriarch and cupped his hands in greeting. “Master Diao, this humble servant of the Shen Family offers his respects. The Lü Mountain Immortal Master who brought glory to our Shen Family asked me to pass on a message. He requests that every influential family in Wushuang City prepare a banquet at the finest restaurant in the city and await his arrival.”

Hearing this, the Diao Family patriarch, Diao Caisan, wondered if he had heard correctly.

This was rather interesting.

You want me to go listen to you speak, and you want me to prepare a banquet too.

That was a bit much.

But when he thought of the Jin Family’s destruction and that roar, the Diao Family patriarch couldn’t bring himself to say anything. He didn’t dare.

What could he do when the other man had the stronger fist and an impressive background? If he was summoned, he’d go.

“Go back and report this. In an hour, Diao Caisan will await the Immortal Master’s honored arrival at the Heavenly Immortal Abode in the city.”

Diao Caisan reacted that way, and so did most of Wushuang City’s other influential families.

Some were displeased, naturally. They weren’t exactly happy.

After all, Lü Mountain might be powerful, but its cultivators had never acted with such overbearing force.

They could be domineering, but not like this.

Besides, they believed in letting fate take its course and never actively involved themselves with the mortal world’s powers.

But this Lü Mountain Immortal Master was so overbearing that it made them uncomfortable.

In the end, though, they all agreed that this was a chance to meet a Lü Mountain Immortal Master up close.

As the Shen Family servants who had gone out to deliver the message returned one by one to report,

Lu Ding was rather surprised by the results.

Not a single predictable fool had failed to read the situation and run his mouth.

They had all agreed to come.

That was good.

He just didn’t know whether they’d still be able to sit calmly when they heard what he was about to ask of them.

Footsteps sounded outside the door, and Lu Ding’s gaze followed them.

He saw Wu Yong approaching. “Why did you come back? Didn’t I tell you to go home and take care of your father’s funeral?”

Wu Yong bowed. “Thank you for your concern, Immortal Master. But while my father was alive, he devoted himself to the main household. Now that the Shen residence has undergone such upheaval, they need people. If my father were still alive, he would probably have told me to come back, too.”

“Failing to fulfill your duty while your father lives, then wearing mourning clothes for a long time after he dies, it’s like trying to fish for the moon in water or gaze at flowers through mist. It’s all an illusion.”

Those were insightful words. Given the background of Demon Province, Wu Yong’s way of thinking was clearly nothing like what his name suggested.

“Have you studied?”

Wu Yong remained properly respectful. “When the young masters studied in the past, this humble servant listened to some of their lessons. But because I was of low status, I never studied seriously.”

Feudal society.

Lu Ding sighed inwardly.

He reached into the Red Coffin and took out some pills, rare natural treasures, and several spirit stones. Then he called to Wu Yong, “Come here.”

Wu Yong walked over.

Lu Ding handed them to him. “These are for you. I’d planned to give them to you after you’d taken care of your father’s funeral. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have looked right.”

“But since you’ve put it that way, I’ll give them to you now.”

“I also bear some responsibility for what happened to your father. At the time...”

Lu Ding didn’t hide anything. He explained exactly what had happened. There was still time, so there was no need to rush.

Although he liked to keep things simple,

the man’s father had died, and as his son, Wu Yong had the right to know. Even though he kept calling himself a low-status servant, Lu Ding had received a modern education. Since Wu Yong wasn’t his enemy, Lu Ding would respect his rights as a person!

It had nothing to do with status.
