Chapter 1164 - Capítulo 1164: Don't React
Capítulo 1164: Don’t React
Courtney was browsing on her phone absentmindedly, sucking on a straw as she finished the last of a green smoothie.
She finally put down her phone just to find someone she didn’t recognize staring at her rather hard.
“…Can I help you?”
“You sure can, sweet thang.”
“Oh, my god…”
The young boy held out his hand. “The name’s Doughboy. But you can call me the man of your dreams.”
“Someone’s been sniffing too much glue on the playground.”
“Aww, darlin, you ain’t gotta be like that. Despite my youthful exterior, I am plenty mature enough to handle a distinguished and elegant older woman like yourself.”
Courtney forgot she looked like she was in her forties now. She almost slapped the boy out of existence without thinking.
“Boy…”
“Ow! Ow! Ow! Ow! Ow!!”
Abaddon suddenly appeared with a handful of fishing poles in one hand and a palm full of Doughboy’s skull in the other.
“I am about to say something to you that I have only ever said to my children. Please do not make me kill you before you even turn seventeen.”
“What?! I didn’t do anything, Coach!”
“You’re a liar and the truth ain’t in you. You think I don’t hear you over here harassing my baby girl with your heavy breathing?”
Doughboy paused and stared at Courtney carefully.
“…Damn, coach, another one? You gon’ catch something.” Doughboy shook his head disapprovingly.
Courtney gagged, and Abaddon put more force into his grip.
“That’s my daughter, fool!”
Doughboy slowly swung his head back and forth between Abaddon and Courtney.
“…But you black as hell, and she’s-”
“You know what, this is my fault.” Abaddon shook his head. “I ran you so god damn much after practice that you don’t have any brain cells left and can’t even understand the simple concept of adoption.”
“So does that mean I don’t have to run after practice anymore??”
“You sure don’t, buddy. Instead, it’s straight bear crawls for the rest of the season.”
Doughboy didn’t know if that was any better.
“Get outside with everyone else so that you can stop harassing my daughters.” Abaddon finally let the boy’s head go.
Dough boy shuffled away from the sofa and started to head back outside.
“You know, you got a lot of damn kids, coach! You need to get off them ladies for once and give them a brea-”
“Boy, get outside!”
Doughboy ran as quickly as his chubby legs would carry him.
Abaddon heard laughter coming from behind him and turned around with a grimace.
“Please, don’t encourage his foolishness. He’s taken too many shots on the line and now he’s got early-onset stupid.”
Ayaana and Zahara rolled their eyes at their husband.
“He’s a very spirited young man. I like him.” Zahara smiled.
Abaddon almost looked offended. “Oh? So you agree that I should be staying off of you then?”
“I do, actually.” Zahara sauntered closer to her husband with a coquettish smile. “Instead, you should let me be the one who gets on top for once~”
Courtney doubled over, making retching noises and holding her stomach.
She had forgotten the golden rule of living at home. Headphones were a necessity to have on standby.
Abaddon and Zahara promptly rolled their eyes at her.
“Oh, please. How do you think you got here?”
“Literally adoption!”
“… Oh. That’s right.” Zahara often forgot that she did not actually give birth to Courtney.
Abaddon placed the fishing rods aside and wrapped his arms around both of his wives.
“This doesn’t change anything. We’re still going out tonight, just let me get them settled first.”
Ayaana smiled at him bitterly. “Are you sure that’s what you want to do? This seems pretty important, and not something for you to be splitting your focus on…”
Abaddon brought Ayaana closer to his body. “There is nothing more important to me than us. That has been, and will always be the case.”
Ayaana’s heart felt painfully full. It was a sweet, bitter feeling that only her husband and wife could give her.
Abaddon kissed both of his wives on the cheek as he slowly began to back away.
“I’ll be back. Go and change into something pretty.”
Courtney gagged again.
“Hush, girl.”
As Abaddon left the room, Ayaana and Zahara naturally drifted back to their room.
They got maybe halfway before Zahara pinned her wife against a nearby door.
“You’re broody.”
“I am not broody.”
“You are. And I can’t figure out if it’s because of something we’ve done, or…?”
“No, of course not.” Ayaana said firmly, as if the mere thought that her lovers could have done something wrong was woefully upsetting.
She brought a hand to her chest and clenched her fist. “It’s.. something I’ve done. I haven’t been honest with our husband, and the guilt is eating me alive..!”
“Alright, alright, slow down, my love. First, why don’t you tell me what you’re hiding that’s got you so worked up…?”
Ayaana nodded with a grim expression. “W-When I was looking to see what was taking the gods… I saw Demeter get taken, and I… I didn’t say anything.”
Zahara didn’t understand. “Honey, why would something like that-”
“B-Because I didn’t say anything when one of my husband’s closest friends went missing!”
“He didn’t ask you, though?”
“It’s not about whether he asked or not, it’s about me questioning whether or not I even want that woman to come back!” Ayaana finally yelled.
The words had finally left her lips. Ayaana felt the guilt run amok through her.
Even Zahara seemed surprised to hear her wife say something so unusually out of character.
“I have tried, but I just… I do not like that woman..!” Ayaana growled. “I hate the way that she covets him even after all of these years. She wanders about her home like a ghost, staring at Poseidon’s trident as if it’s some kind of shrine to him! She’s not interested in his friendship; she only wants his love! Well, she can’t fucking have it because it’s mine! He’s my husband, he belongs to me, and if I see her I may very well decide to kill her myself!!”
Ayanna’s voice was like booming thunder. Zahara discreetly controlled the soundwaves so that they wouldn’t travel beyond the corridor.
But even though Ayaana was filled with rage, it took less than a moment for her to crumble.
“What is wrong with me…? I know so clearly that she is nothing more than a friend to him, and he clearly values their relationship… and yet I would see them forever separated… What kind of wife am I…? How can I call myself his wife if this is how I would behave..?”
Tears fell from Ayaana’s eyes as she clutched her arms in a bid to stop her shaking.
“I couldn’t tell him that she was missing because I was so afraid of how he would react… I didn’t want to see that look of worry in his eyes when someone he cares about is in danger. I don’t want him to care about her! She only wants to take advantage of his kindness, I know it, I swear!!”
Zaharaa held on to her wife for dear life.
She gently rocked her lover back and forth as she tried to quell her protective rage.
“Shh… it’s alright, my love. I understand. If you feel this strongly about it, then I can’t say I’m against you.”
Zahara took her lover’s face in her hands and wiped her tears.
“But if you feel that strongly about it, I think it’s only right that you talk to our husband. He, more than anyone, would want to know how you’re feeling and assuage your feelings for himself.”
Ayaana shook her head tearfully. “No, no, I can’t… I don’t want him to see this…” Ayaana clenched the fabric of her dress over her heart. “Ugliness inside of me..”
“I think our husband has seen enough of our ugliness by now. Remember last week when you said you got drunk and said you wanted to remember what it was like to vomit, but you couldn’t remember exactly which sensation to induce, so you accidentally-”
Ayaana became flustered and slapped both of her hands over her wife’s lips. “T-That is very different from this, and you promised you would never bring that up again for the rest of your life!! I should have pulled it out of both of your minds as soon as it happened!”
Zahara shapeshifted her body to create a mouth in the palm of her hand. “I was just trying to make a point and-”
Ayaana bandaged both of Zahara’s hands. “Not. Another. Word.”
Her wife nodded, afraid and a little bit turned on.
Both women sat against the wall, hand in hand for the next several minutes.
Ayaana sniffled softly as she continued to cry despite her wife’s interference.
“I think… this is the first time since I have been formed that I have felt such overwhelming emotions.
Right now, all I want is for us to be together in a cage at the farthest corners of the universe.
I want to be the only one who gets to enjoy your warmth, your smiles, your bodies… I feel so desperate for it that I could die..!”
Zahara could tell her wife wasn’t joking just by the way she held onto her. It would’ve been impossible for the platinum-haired goddess to pull her hand away even if she wanted to.
“…I have an idea that I think could make things better. That is, if you’re willing to give it a chance.”
