Fated To Three, And I Broke Them All

Chapter 430-And She Is Flirting With The Alpha King

Verity:

"It’s crazy because this is just a small island right off our coast. It’s so close that when our children reach the shore, they can actually catch a glimpse of it whenever the clouds clear," the Alpha of the Last Eagle Pack explained, seated across from us.

He was an old man, and his daughter, Brenda, was set to succeed him.

She had accompanied her father and the royal beta to discuss a proposal with Alpha King Ragnar, his brothers, and several other alphas whose territories bordered the sea, close enough for them to see the neighboring island.

"So, you want to explore the island, but you’re worried there might be some kind of monsters lurking out there?" Ragnar asked.

I sat beside him, occasionally glancing at Brenda and noticing the way she kept staring at him with nothing but admiration in her eyes.

She wore a beautiful purple business suit, while I had, strangely enough, chosen a similar color for my outfit: a purple silk top paired with black dress pants.

I’d left my hair loose in large curls, with only a few strands tied back.

Every time I caught Brenda tilting her head to gaze at Ragnar without so much as blinking, I found myself pushing my glasses up the bridge of my nose.

I wasn’t sure whether he had noticed her attention, too.

Then again, why the fuck would I care whether he had or not?

"Yes, exactly. I would also like my daughter to assist you with this project. You see, I’m trying to help Brenda understand pack matters and everything that comes with leading one, so that when she takes over and is crowned Alpha, she’ll know how to run her pack properly."

Alfred spoke with unmistakable pride as he looked at his daughter.

All things considered, he didn’t seem like a bad alpha.

I’d attended quite a few meetings with Ragnar and met plenty of alphas from both large and small packs.

Of all the ones I’d encountered, Alfred struck me as one of the most decent.

He never took unnecessary jabs at me or gave me strange looks, nor did he summon the maids or servers by clicking his tongue or snapping his fingers at them.

He genuinely seemed like a good man.

But then again, what did I know?

"In fact, I was thinking, how about I become your personal secretary for this project while my father oversees the deal?" Brenda suggested with a smile, drawing Ragnar’s attention.

"You can be your father’s secretary," Ragnar dismissed the idea.

I noticed how quickly her smile began to falter.

"I already have a secretary."

As soon as Ragnar mentioned me, I felt everyone’s eyes turn in my direction, and I immediately straightened my posture.

The café itself was beautiful, situated right beside the sea.

They were planning to take us for a walk along the shore later to show us the island they claimed was visible from this distance.

They had built up so much mystery around that island, as though the mere sight of it emerging from the fog was something creepy.

Apparently, there was something strange about its appearance, something they couldn’t quite describe.

They kept comparing it to a watchtower, but what was so frightening about a watchtower? Why did they find it so unsettling?

I was actually quite intrigued to see it for myself.

"Actually, I’ve done my research as well. I know Verity is a very good secretary, but she’s also an omega, and I believe a project of this magnitude requires someone of a higher rank. Someone who understands the dangers and potential threats of exploring unfamiliar territory. I hope you don’t take offense to that," Brenda addressed me with a smile.

I didn’t know what to make of her.

Until now, I hadn’t really had a problem with her, apart from the fact that she couldn’t seem to stop staring at my boss.

But the moment she opened her mouth and addressed me directly, I detected something fake in her voice, as though she were deliberately looking down on me.

She wanted me to take offense. I could practically feel it.

"Actually, the entire presentation you saw today was prepared by Verity," Ragnar interjected before I could even defend myself. "And who better than an omega to understand the importance of taking threats and dangers seriously?"

I noticed Brenda slowly shifting in her seat to exchange a glance with her father.

The look they shared immediately changed my opinion of both of them.

So that was what this was about.

Her father wanted her to get close to Ragnar.

"Well, I was actually hoping we could establish a closer working relationship," Alfred explained. "If my daughter works on your side of the project while someone else handles things from mine, we’ll be able to exchange information much more easily."

Clearly, the alpha wasn’t going to give up so easily.

"Perhaps you could find another position for her. After all, there’s no rule against having two secretaries, is there?" Alfred added with a light laugh, obviously hoping Ragnar would take the suggestion seriously.

"What kind of Alpha King would I be if I needed two secretaries to assist me? Don’t you think that would make me seem incapable of managing my own affairs?" Ragnar questioned.

At this point, considering how many times Ragnar had rejected the idea, any girl with even an ounce of self-respect would have backed off.

"I don’t see it that way," Brenda commented with a little giggle.

"Actually, if getting closer is what you’re interested in, there are other ways we can get to know each other better."

The moment Ragnar said that, my head whipped toward him.

I was sitting on his right, so the way I turned to stare at him probably made it painfully obvious that I was judging him.

I even caught him raising his right eyebrow, almost as though he were acknowledging the fact that I’d practically twisted around in my seat just to look at him.

"Really? That would be amazing!" Brenda’s voice suddenly took on an almost childlike excitement, sounding unusually delicate.

I tightened my grip on my pen, my eyes still fixed on Ragnar.

"Yeah, um, he’s getting engaged."

The words slipped out before I could stop them.
