Fated love: the unwanted bride
Chapter 2705: Prison—At Least a 20-Year Sentence
"I am not someone who likes being threatened, Kieran. You’ve been using the wrong approach with me from the start." Sylvan Cheney said calmly, "I don’t know what kind of person I was before I lost my memory, but from what I see now, I must have been ruthless. Being ruthless is a form of responsibility to oneself, at least when threatened, one has the ability to retaliate."
"You’re too much! Do you want to drag the Janus Family down? What good will it do you?"
"Since the first day you met me, you should have known that I’m not someone who likes being controlled by others. Yet, the Janus Family seems to enjoy controlling me, isn’t that right?"
These words left Kieran Janus speechless.
He did know that Sylvan Cheney is not someone who can be controlled by others, but he held onto a sliver of hope, which was... Sylvan had lost his memory.
He thought he could control someone with amnesia, thereby using him to his advantage, keeping him steadily within the Janus Family, and growing the James Group. After all, ever since he took over the James Group, due to his insufficient expertise in financial management, numerous financial loopholes and crises had emerged, inducing urgency within him.
This year, he saw Sylvan managing the group very well and thought he had made the right bet.
Unexpectedly... Sylvan would use a year to set up a scheme.
He treated Sylvan as a pawn, but inadvertently, their roles had swapped, and he along with Erin Janus became Sylvan’s pawns.
Kieran Janus once again gazed at Sylvan Cheney, a sinister chill rising from his feet, making his whole body cold.
"Sylvan Cheney, staying with the Janus Family, managing the James Group well, is a win-win for both of us. And now what do you gain? If the James Group goes bankrupt, what good will it do you?"
"What, do you want me to live under your control for the rest of my life? Hmm?" Sylvan Cheney cast a cold glance at Kieran Janus.
"Haha, what’s this talk of control between family? When did I ever control you? You can have whatever you want, you know, I seldom manage things now, the James Group will be yours in the future, what are you dissatisfied with?"
"It seems you’ve forgotten about threatening me a year ago. Such things as threats don’t just happen once, and I very much dislike being threatened. Threaten me once, and I will demand it back tenfold, even if it means mutual destruction."
Once again, Kieran Janus felt a chill up his spine.
A year ago, he indeed had threatened Sylvan Cheney.
At that time, Sylvan Cheney and Erin weren’t together yet.
He discovered that Sylvan had embezzled 10 billion from the James Group to privately fund an amusement park project, using this to threaten him to be with Erin and return to the Old York Headquarters, or he would hand him over to prison for the crime of embezzlement.
UT doesn’t have the death penalty, but imprisonment would lead to at least a twenty-year sentence.
"Haha, Sylvan Cheney, are you acting out of spite towards me? Why throw such a childish tantrum. It was wrong for me to threaten you that time, I apologize. In the future, I won’t stand in your way no matter what you want to do, how about that?" Kieran Janus feigned composure.
"Too late." Sylvan Cheney’s face was cool and grim, eyes devoid of any ripple.
"Sylvan Cheney, do you know that I still have the evidence of your 10 billion embezzlement!" Kieran Janus exasperated, reiterating the past once more.
"You’re threatening me again." Sylvan Cheney chuckled, "See, I was right, wasn’t I? Threats don’t happen just once."
"You..." Kieran Janus pointed at him, "Aren’t you afraid at all?"
"Afraid of what? Family destruction? Homelessness? Isolation? Hmm?"
