Fated love: the unwanted bride
Chapter 2673: A Metallic Taste of Blood in His Mouth
Underground parking garage.
Sylvan Cheney walked to his Maybach, opened the door, and got in.
A shadowy figure darted out from the corner and opened the passenger door.
"President."
"Send them back," Sylvan whispered, giving a few instructions.
The subordinate nodded as he listened, indicating understanding.
"Only the three of us know about this. If a fourth person finds out, handle it," Sylvan coldly warned.
"I understand."
"Get out."
"Yes."
The subordinate put on a baseball cap, confirmed no one was around, opened the passenger door, got out, and quickly ran into the darkness, disappearing without a trace.
Sylvan didn’t drive off immediately; he silently stared ahead, his jawline tense, eyes filled with a cold chill.
In the silence, he could clearly hear his heartbeat, one after another, even and calm.
After a long while, he stepped on the gas and drove the Maybach out of the parking garage into the rain.
The rain outside was heavy, torrential, making it hard to see the road ahead. A white mist enveloped the surroundings, as if standing on a mountaintop, hazy and indistinct.
Fewer and fewer cars were on the street as Sylvan drove into the rain without looking back.
The car didn’t seem to know where it was heading.
Sylvan’s heart was calm, surprisingly unruffled.
The wipers continuously swept the raindrops from the windshield, but the rain was so heavy it blocked the view, making it nearly impossible to see the road ahead.
The night deepened, the sky vast and mysterious.
This time, Sylvan drove purely on instinct. When he hit the brakes and stopped, he realized he had arrived at the construction site.
Several projects were simultaneously underway, but none were completed; most were only halfway through, looming like massive beasts.
Due to the heavy rain, the site was deserted, only desolate and remote.
Sylvan parked the car, gazing at the construction site through the hazy rain.
This season made the surroundings even more barren, devoid of human presence, filled only with endless bleakness.
He sat in the car without getting out, letting the wipers swipe the raindrops on the window. In this rain, there was nothing particularly scenic, darkness boundless.
Sylvan lit a cigarette, smoke swirling inside the car. Sometimes he watched the horizon, sometimes the unfinished projects.
It was already late night, and besides the sound of the rain, nothing could be heard. In such a desolate place, his heartbeat seemed even more audible.
Thoughts drifted like a broken kite, aimlessly floating in his mind, with no end in sight.
At this moment, Sylvan felt no sleepiness. With the stimulus from the nicotine, he was fully awake.
He hadn’t slept peacefully for a long time.
Tonight was destined to be another sleepless night.
Halfway through the cigarette, he probably choked and started coughing violently. This cough brought a bloody taste to his mouth.
Sylvan covered it with a tissue, which was stained with a shocking red.
The continuous strain over the past few days had severely drained his body.
Sylvan rummaged through the box for stomach medicine, swallowing several pills with cold water.
He stubbed out the cigarette and stopped smoking, focusing instead on the rain outside the window.
This feeling was unpleasant and even a bit tormenting.
The autumn rain continued endlessly.
This weather, fluctuating between warm and cold, made it difficult to sleep and rest, with the sound of rain adding countless irritations to the heart.
