Fated love: the unwanted bride
Chapter 2669: The Man Covered in Blood and on the Brink of Death
It was deep into the night, and the surroundings were utterly silent. In the corridor, the steady and light footsteps of Sylvan Cheney could be clearly heard.
He followed the elevator upwards, proceeded along the corridor, holding the hotel room key card in his hand.
The wide corridor was quite dim, the air filled with a fresh fragrance. Sylvan Cheney’s eyes were like torches, the pupils contracting with a deep, sharp glow.
After about five or six minutes, he stopped in front of a room door.
Lifting a hand.
With a "beep," the door opened.
Someone inside let out a startled, frightened cry. Before they could react further, Sylvan Cheney was already inside, closing the door behind him.
There was only a dim yellow wall lamp on inside the room, and the light was not very clear.
Inside was a middle-aged man in his forties. He was short and dressed in a very rustic manner. As soon as Sylvan Cheney entered the room, he stared at him fearfully, his hands awkwardly twisting together. His eyes betrayed his panic.
He looked carefully at Sylvan Cheney. This young man possessed a certain regal aura, moving with calm assurance.
He continued to stare at Sylvan Cheney, his eyes filled with panic, fear, and surprise.
All around, it was silently still.
Sylvan Cheney curled his lips, raising a faint smile that wasn’t quite a smile, fixing his gaze on the man’s face: "You recognize me."
"No... I... don’t recognize..." The middle-aged man was very flustered, not daring to meet Sylvan Cheney’s eyes again.
Sylvan Cheney’s gaze was too sharp, like a knife, making him feel very afraid.
This middle-aged man was very thin, and in his fear, he seemed to shrink into the corner of the wall, timidly.
"I don’t like to force people against their will. I’ll give you two choices. One, you cooperate with me; I ask, you answer, and I let you leave through the door. Two, you don’t cooperate; I ask, and you can’t answer truthfully, and I’ll let you leave through the window. How about it?"
Sylvan Cheney’s voice rang out like a phantom in the empty room, low, cold, and chilling.
Perhaps this man had never done anything bad; at this moment, he was already terrified out of his wits, shaking uncontrollably.
The window... This is over twenty floors up; going down through the window, would he even survive?
Sylvan Cheney saw his expression of fear and chuckled lightly: "Did you understand what I said?"
The man nodded, nodding repeatedly, not daring to utter a single word of disagreement.
In his eyes, Sylvan Cheney’s attire was extraordinary, especially his tone of voice, possessed a certain fierce aura.
"You... ask then." The man shrunk further into the corner, compromising, not daring to refute. "As long as it’s something I know, I’ll tell you... I’m just afraid, afraid I might not know..."
The more he spoke, the lower his voice became, completely lacking in confidence.
Sylvan Cheney smiled, his lips slightly curved: "After Qingming last year, did anything happen to your family, hmm?"
"Las... last year..." The man suddenly seemed to understand something, raising his head to look at Sylvan Cheney, his eyes filled with astonishment and surprise. "You, you... we’re just ordinary fishermen..."
"Answer my question."
"Sir, some... something did happen... You... it was you..." The man began to speak incoherently, his eyes filled with shock. "In the early hours of Qingming Day, my daughter and I went to the river to cast the net. We pulled a man out of the river, covered in blood, barely alive. It was very dark then, early morning... I don’t remember clearly, couldn’t see anything for sure..."
