Princess Qi said coolly, "Miss Gu, to be frank, my son Yu’er is practicing a certain martial art and must abstain from the company of women until he is twenty."

"Although, for now, you two have yet to—"

Before she could finish, Gu Fei lifted her head, her face flushed red, and declared word by word, "I, Gu Fei, swear that I feel nothing but gratitude for the Young Master Heir’s kindness. I harbor no improper thoughts toward him whatsoever. If I ever develop any untoward feelings for the Young Master Heir, then may sores fester on my head and pus ooze from my feet, and may I die a miserable death!"

Princess Qi froze. She could tell how sincere Gu Fei’s oath was; it was so earnest it made her very core tremble.

’It was clear the girl was telling the truth.’

Princess Qi clutched her forehead. ’Did I do something wrong today? If Yu’er is truly interested in this girl, after an oath like that, she would rather die than set foot in this mansion.’

’When that time comes, will Yu’er come and raise a fuss?’

The mere thought frightened Princess Qi. Looking at Gu Fei, she felt she was in an awkward predicament. She waved her hand dismissively. "Alright, alright. There’s no need to make such oaths. I believe you."

"Nanny Xu, see them out. I have a headache."

With a cold expression, Gu Fei pulled Lan Zhi to her feet and they backed out of the room.

Nanny Xu walked beside them, noticing that Gu Fei was still seething, her small fists clenched tight.

Nanny Xu silently praised the girl. ’That oath just now gave me a start.’

’One doesn’t make such a vicious oath lightly. The heavens are always watching.’

’For a girl with her looks to have such spirit... it’s quite admirable.’

Before long, they passed through the second gate and came face-to-face with Housekeeper Wu.

Housekeeper Wu was surprised to see Gu Fei and Lan Zhi.

’Those two girls actually came out unscathed?’

’The Princess Consort just let them go like that?’

Gu Fei had spotted Housekeeper Wu from a distance, and seeing his expression now, she immediately understood.

’Yesterday’s incident wasn’t that big of a deal. I haven’t heard a single nasty rumor at the inn, a place teeming with all sorts of people, yet the Princess Consort, tucked away in her secluded residence, has somehow caught wind of gossip this quickly.’

’Where did the rumors come from? It could only mean one thing: someone had deliberately fed her lies.’

’The culprit was obvious. It had to be Housekeeper Wu. If it wasn’t him directly, he’d ordered someone else to do it!’

’He was the only one in the Prince Qi Mansion who held a grudge against her.’

Gu Fei glanced at Nanny Xu beside her and sneered at Housekeeper Wu. "Quite the man of action, Housekeeper Wu. Trashing my shop wasn’t enough, was it? I never thought you’d stoop to seeking personal revenge by spreading malicious gossip to the Princess Consort. You’ve not only slandered me, but the Young Master Heir as well!"

"I’m out on the streets all day and I haven’t heard a single rumor. So how did such filthy talk find its way to the Princess Consort’s ears, here in this secluded residence?"

"I’m afraid someone with an agenda must have spread it."

"Heh. To think you’d even dare to deceive the Princess Consort. You’ve got some nerve."

Housekeeper Wu was aghast.

’He never expected to run into Gu Fei here. He knew they had only just been summoned.’

’He had assumed the two girls were in for a good beating today, that they might even be carried out unconscious. He never imagined they’d be completely fine.’

’Even worse, he’d never imagined this Gu Fei girl would dare to accuse him to his face!’

Housekeeper Wu shot a panicked glance at Nanny Xu, then bristled, scolding Gu Fei, "You girl, what nonsense are you spouting? I don’t even know who you are, let alone how I could have slandered you and the Young Master Heir!"

"And I certainly did not deceive the Princess Consort!"
