Chapter 255: Hurry Up and Get Lost

Xing’er’s face fell. She glanced at Xiao Lu and Pingzi, who were still in the main hall. A mixture of anger and anxiety washed over her, and her eyes instantly filled with tears. ’This man always puts me in such an impossible position!’

’He never thinks about anyone but himself.’

’Before, my humiliation was confined to that little village. The people there were either my relatives or neighbors from the countryside. Afterward, nobody said much, and there weren’t any nasty rumors.’

’Even so, I still don’t dare to hold my head up when I go outside now.’

’But this is Ping’an City!’

’Even if there aren’t any customers at the moment, the staff is still here. What will they think of me from now on?’

’I regret this so, so much!’

Gu Fei watched with a cool expression. She hadn’t planned on getting involved. Since there were no customers, she figured it might be good for the two of them to sort things out.

But when she saw Shanzi practically forcing a marriage proposal on Xing’er, who looked like she was about to burst into tears, Gu Fei lifted her chin and said to Xiao Lu and Pingzi, "You two, go to the backyard and chop the firewood."

Pingzi was about to say the firewood was already chopped, but Xiao Lu pulled him away.

Once the two were out of sight, Gu Fei beckoned with her hand. "Xing’er, come over here."

Xing’er fought back tears as she walked over to the counter. In a level voice, Gu Fei asked, "So what’s your decision? Are you going to marry him or not?"

Xing’er gritted her teeth and shook her head. "I won’t marry him!"

Gu Fei said calmly, "Make sure you’ve thought it through. Don’t just say it because you’re angry."

Xing’er looked at Gu Fei, her gaze firm. "I’ve thought it through. I can’t marry a man like that!"

"He only thinks about himself. Didn’t he realize that saying something like that would destroy my reputation and make it impossible for me to hold my head high?"

"Doesn’t he realize that coming here to pressure me does nothing but make people point and stare? That it doesn’t help one bit?"

"When has he ever shown the slightest consideration for me? If I actually married a man like him, a life of misery would be waiting for me!"

Gu Fei nodded. "It sounds like you’ve really thought this through."

Gu Fei turned to Shanzi and said coldly, "You heard her. Now get out. You’re not welcome here anymore."

Shanzi scrambled to his feet, his face dark as he glared at Gu Fei. "Who asked you to stick your nose in this? This is between me and Xing’er. It’s none of your business!"

’I’m starting to really hate her,’ he thought. ’How dare she boss me around!’

Gu Fei let out a laugh of pure exasperation. "You’re right, it’s not my business."

"But you’re standing in my goddamn shop, and you’re disrupting my business!"

"So get the hell out. If you don’t, I’m grabbing a broom!"

Lan Zhi glanced up at Shanzi and pursed her lips. She, too, had heard about what happened that day. ’Xing’er was lucky to be alive,’ she thought. ’If her aunt hadn’t pulled her back, she might be dead.’

’And to think he still has the nerve to come and harass her!’

’Pah! Scumbag!’

She’d actually learned that word from Little Fei.

Shanzi still didn’t move. Gu Fei stood up, went behind the door, and grabbed a broom, her eyes fixed coldly on him.

Shanzi gritted his teeth. He had seen how vicious Gu Fei could be. If he didn’t leave, she would actually hit him with that broom, and he’d be the one losing face. He shot Xing’er a resentful glare, then turned and walked out.

At the doorway, Shanzi turned back and shot Gu Fei a venomous look before climbing onto his mule cart and driving away.

Gu Fei watched him go. ’He’s not going to let this go,’ she realized.

She put down the broom and turned to Xing’er. "Are you sure you won’t regret this?"

Xing’er nodded emphatically. "I don’t regret it. I wouldn’t regret this even if I have to stay single for the rest of my life!"
