When Gu Fei came out, Gu Sanlang was already gone. He had probably gone off to watch the festivities somewhere.

Only Lian’er followed closely behind her.

Gu Fei glanced back at the building. The location really was excellent. ’But where would I get three thousand silver taels?’

Then again, something felt off. ’A storefront in a location this good... if the old man really wanted to sell it, would he have any trouble finding a buyer?’

’There’s definitely something strange about this place.’

’It’s probably haunted or tangled up in some legal trouble.’

’Oh well, I’ll stop thinking about it for now. I should ask around and see what I can find out.’

After a few steps, she saw a plump, endearing rabbit lantern by the side of the street. Gu Fei stood and watched it for a moment before turning to walk away.

She had only taken a single step when she suddenly froze.

Lian’er glanced at her, confused, only to see Gu Fei staring fixedly ahead.

Lian’er followed her gaze and saw a young master in brocade robes standing beneath a lantern, his features as handsome as a painting.

Su Chen was dressed in a moon-white brocade robe with cloud patterns woven in silver thread. His hair was bound in a silver crown, set in the center with a longan-sized pearl. A white jade belt cinched his waist, and in his hand, he carried a delicate Five-Colored Glazed Lamp.

He was the very picture of handsome, graceful elegance.

Gu Fei had never seen anyone so handsome. For a moment, it was as if her gaze were magnetized, utterly unable to look away from Su Chen’s face.

Su Chen, holding his lamp, also forgot to move. In his eyes, there was only the young woman standing not far away.

She stood there, poised and graceful, her figure slender and lithe. Her peach-colored dress complemented her fair complexion, giving her cheeks a delicate pink blush as lovely as a peach blossom.

Her eyes shone brighter than the most brilliant stars. Standing there, she seemed to radiate a light of her own, making all the festive lanterns on the street pale in comparison.

It was as if the world around them suddenly fell silent, the bustling crowds and clamor of the street fading away.

The young man and the young woman gazed at each other from a distance, and time itself seemed to freeze.

A night breeze stirred the ends of her hair, brushing them gently against her flawless face.

A faint blush crept onto Gu Fei’s cheeks, and she lowered her head.

Her heart suddenly began to pound, wild and out of control.

She knew what this was. ’This is what it feels like to be smitten.’

Su Chen was in no better state. It felt as if all the blood in his body had rushed to his heart, and the sheer joy threatened to make it burst.

’She’s breathtakingly beautiful tonight,’ he thought. ’Like a piece of uncut jade that, with the slightest polish, has revealed a beauty that could topple nations.’

’And I was the one who saw her true worth when she was still hidden away, encased in rough stone.’

Su Chen began to move, walking toward Gu Fei with firm, deliberate steps.

Gu Fei couldn’t resist looking up again. As she watched him draw nearer with each step, her heart grew increasingly flustered. She told herself to leave at once, but her feet felt as if they were nailed to the ground, completely immobile.

She watched him walk right up to her, then lower his head to gaze at her gently. "Miss Xiao Fei, what a coincidence. Are you here to see the lanterns, too?"

Gu Fei felt her face must be burning hot.

She mentally cursed herself for her lack of composure, but managed to curve her lips into a slow smile. "Young Master Su, what a coincidence indeed."

"Is your leg all better?"

Su Chen nodded slightly. He suddenly extended his hand, offering the Five-Colored Glazed Lamp to her. "For you."

Gu Fei looked down at the lamp and murmured softly, "Why are you giving this to me?"

Su Chen didn’t speak. He simply looked at Gu Fei, his eyes seeming to hold a thousand unspoken words.

Gu Fei lifted her head and stared into his eyes, feeling as though she understood everything and nothing at all.

As if bewitched, she involuntarily reached out and accepted the Five-Colored Glazed Lamp.
