Chapter 89: Chapter 89: The Allure of the Green Light Sheep

"You got it, let’s go!" Xiaqing immediately followed, leading Sheep Leader to the bathroom. She was very attentive to Sheep Leader’s health, spraying it with medicine every day, so of course, it had no parasites.

However, she needed an excuse to draw blood today. "Oh, found one. Leader, hold still, this might sting a bit. I’m just getting this parasite off you."

Sheep Leader immediately tensed up, not even moving its head an inch.

Xiaqing deftly pulled out a syringe, drew half a vial of sheep’s blood, and then pressed down on the puncture site, cooing softly, "There, all clean now."

Only then did Sheep Leader relax. It didn’t even shake its fleece, letting Xiaqing dry it off. After diligently grooming Sheep Leader, Xiaqing ran up to the second floor to use the Harmful Element Detector and Yi Element Detector to measure its Qiang and Yi Element levels.

The results made Xiaqing’s mouth water.

Its Harmful Element content was 4.8 parts per thousand. Although that was close to the five-parts-per-thousand threshold, it still qualified as a Green Light animal.

Its Yi Element content was four parts per ten thousand, second only to her spinach among all the edible lifeforms in her territory.

’I want to eat it...’

And these were its stats after having lost control once during a Harmful Rain. If it had never lost control, just how outstanding would its readings have been?

When she went downstairs and saw Sheep Leader, looking as white as a fluffy cloud, a dozen different ways to cook mutton flashed through her mind, and she started drooling again.

Xiaqing suddenly had a thought: maybe the Head Wolf had left Sheep Leader because it was afraid that in a moment of weak willpower, it would kill and eat its friend in a single bite. 𝑓𝑟ℯℴ𝓂

’Green Light mutton...’ she thought. ’I really want to eat some...’

Xiaqing wiped away her drool, forced herself to ignore the top-tier ingredient standing before her, and began her daily training.

Early the next morning, after finishing her daily patrols and pest control, Xiaqing emptied the soil from the pot intended for transplanting strawberry seedlings into a bag. She then refilled the pot with new soil, mixing in crushed and fermented Green Light sheep manure as fertilizer.

The *Spinach Cultivation Guide* she got from Zhang San explained that top-dressing Green Light plants with Green Light fertilizer and watering them with uncontaminated water or distilled water could effectively reduce the chance of Qiang Evolution. It could also potentially lower the plant’s Harmful Element content while increasing its Yi Element content.

Although she had never asked Sun Zhe, Xiaqing was sure his worm castings weren’t Green Light manure. Otherwise, they wouldn’t sell for as cheap as one point for two pounds.

The Guide also mentioned that because every plant species has different characteristics, the equilibrium they achieve between the Qiang and Yi Elements also differs.

This explained why a Green Light persimmon tree had a Harmful Element content of less than 0.25 parts per thousand and a Yi Element content of only one part per ten thousand, while Green Light Spinach, with a Harmful Element content of 3.8 parts per thousand, could have a Yi Element content as high as six parts per ten thousand.

Once she finished changing the soil, Xiaqing carefully took the runners from the mother strawberry plant—now almost two feet long—and arranged them in the new pot. She then watered them with spring water to help the two new strawberry plantlets on the runners take root in the fresh soil.

The second Harmful Rain hadn’t affected the strawberries on her second-floor balcony at all. The two plants had already put out four runners. The longest was almost two feet long, while the shortest was barely the length of a finger.

Watching the runners grow longer day by day, with new shoots sprouting from their nodes, made Xiaqing feel that nature was magical and fascinating. At this rate, she would have even more strawberries to eat next year.

After tending to the strawberries, Xiaqing hitched up a two-share plow to her micro-tiller and went to work on the fields where she had already cut down the Injurious Grass. By using the plow to turn up the roots and then burning them, she could clear the fields completely.

If she didn’t plow now and waited a few days for the ground to dry out, tilling would consume even more fuel.

But to her surprise, just as Xiaqing drove the micro-tiller out of the village, Sheep Leader ran up and blocked her way, lowering its spiral horns.

Xiaqing patted the VIP passenger seat beside her. "Hop on, Leader. We can go plow together."

"Baa!" Sheep Leader refused, standing its ground.

Xiaqing narrowed her eyes, studying the clearly unhappy Sheep Leader for a moment. Then her eyes widened in realization. "You want to pull the plow?"

"Baaa—" Sheep Leader lifted its head proudly.

"Well, I never knew you had a hobby like this. Fine by me." Xiaqing drove the micro-tiller back to the garage, retrieved a three-share, sheep-drawn plow, and led Sheep Leader out to the fields.

Sheep Leader could plow faster than the micro-tiller without using any fuel. Xiaqing had only planned to use the tiller because she didn’t want to overwork the sheep. She never expected it to be so eager to help out.

At the edge of the field, Xiaqing hitched the plow to Sheep Leader and pointed forward. "Alright, Leader, time to work!"

Sheep Leader didn’t move a hoof. It turned its head to look at Xiaqing, its eyes filled with a look of divine disdain.

Xiaqing was speechless for a moment. "Fine, have it your way. Just wait."

Xiaqing ran to the High Slope, picked a handful of Asparagus Chrysanthemum leaves, and returned. She tied a cluster of them to a bamboo pole and dangled it just in front of Sheep Leader’s head. "Alright, Leader, let’s work!"

"Baa!" Sheep Leader pawed the ground twice and then shot forward, pulling the three-share plow as if it were flying.

It was a good thing Xiaqing was one of the Strength Evolution People; otherwise, she would never have been able to keep the plow steady. The arable land in her territory spanned over three hundred acres, but she was currently only cultivating less than an acre of it. The vast majority of the land lay fallow, with only eight small, net-covered plots she had fenced off for pest control scattered across it. Inside them grew wild groundcherries and Red Light peanuts. On over three hundred acres of farmland, these eight small patches were negligible.

Guided by the Asparagus Chrysanthemum, Sheep Leader pulled the plow and ran with wild abandon from the eastern edge of the territory to the western edge, then back again. A single round trip like that tilled an entire acre and a half of land!

After each circuit, Xiaqing would stop to feed Sheep Leader some compressed rations, Asparagus Chrysanthemum, and spring water.

While the two of them rested, the birds in the territory did not. They flocked to the freshly tilled soil, chirping and calling as they searched for insects, creating a lively scene. Only the four egrets refused to join the frenzy, remaining perched on their branches and staring at Xiaqing.

After a short rest, they continued.

Sheep Leader wasn’t tired, so Xiaqing stayed with it, guiding the plow from behind. This method of tilling was not only fuel-efficient and highly effective, but it also trained her Endurance, arm Strength, and stability. It was killing several birds with one stone, so she had to keep going.

By the third circuit, Xiaqing was starting to feel tired from guiding the plow, but Sheep Leader was still going strong. Xiaqing gritted her teeth and pushed on. ’I’m a High Level Evolved Person,’ she thought. ’There’s no way I’m losing to a top-tier ingredient!’

After the fourth circuit, Sheep Leader was finally tired. After eating and drinking, it flopped down in the shade of a tree to rest, too exhausted to even lie down properly.

Xiaqing collapsed onto a pile of dried Injurious Grass and sighed, "Leader, I get why you wanted to do this now."

As a Strength Evolver herself, Xiaqing felt she understood. "You’re trying to train by exhausting yourself pulling this plow, aren’t you? You want to increase your Strength?"

Sheep Leader, of course, paid her no mind, but Xiaqing was sure she was right. After recovering its stamina, it demanded to pull the plow again. Xiaqing couldn’t understand what had made the normally lazy and gluttonous sheep so driven, but she liked it.

Competing with each other, the woman and the sheep managed to till over fifty acres of land in a single day. Even for two High Level Strength Evolvers, that was an astonishing rate of efficiency.

A full day of plowing was even more exhausting than her trip into the Evolution Forest with Hu Zifeng to dig for bamboo shoots. That evening, she was so tired that when the farming broadcast came on, she didn’t even sit at her desk to take notes as usual.

After the farming broadcast ended, Xiaqing, having recovered some of her energy, turned off the radio and switched over to the Lord channel. She started her daily training, practicing basic shooting stances and reaction speed while listening to the other Lords chat.

No matter how tired she was, training could not be skipped.

On the Lord channel, Lords No. 4, No. 5, No. 6, and No. 10 were discussing how to clear Injurious Grass. By listening to their chatter, Xiaqing was able to pick up some useful farming knowledge.

"Xiaqing, are you there?"

Xiaqing, who was in the middle of her hand-stability exercises, heard Tang Huai’s irritated voice cut through the chatter, calling her out by name.
