Chapter 318: Chapter 318: Salesman Xiaqing

"Look, Queen. This is the Level 4 field Protective Suit I got for you. It’s a grade higher than the one I’m wearing—it’s more comfortable and offers extra mobility. You won’t feel hindered at all when you run. And look at these booties..."

Xiaqing picked up the little booties and continued her sales pitch. "See? These protect the pads of your paws. They’re super comfortable for running in. If you don’t believe me, just ask Second."

Hearing Xiaqing call him, the Sick Wolf thought it was his turn for a Protective Suit. He walked up to her and lifted a front paw.

Seeing that the Head Wolf didn’t seem displeased by her calling the Sick Wolf "Second," Xiaqing went inside, brought out the Sick Wolf’s complete Protective Suit, and fitted it on him. "Queen, look at Second! Isn’t he handsome? So cool, right? Doesn’t he look fierce?"

When the Sheep Leader saw Xiaqing praising the Sick Wolf, he trotted over to her with a CLICK-CLACK of his hooves.

Xiaqing had anticipated this and had already brought out his Protective Suit as well. She efficiently dressed him in it.

"BAA!" The Sheep Leader was not satisfied. He lifted a hoof and scraped it against the concrete floor.

Where were his booties?

Xiaqing lifted the Sheep Leader’s foreleg and squeezed his hard hoof. She explained to the Sheep Leader, though her words were really for the Head Wolf, "The Sheep Leader’s hooves are very tough—he can shatter rocks with a kick, so he doesn’t need booties. The Queen and Second have sharp claws, but the pads on their paws can get cut easily, so they need protection. The Sheep Leader’s evolution is the most perfect, the most beautiful..."

After a good dose of flattery, the Sheep Leader was satisfied. He trotted in a couple of circles and lay down again beside the Head Wolf. With the three of them together, the Head Wolf, who wasn’t wearing a Protective Suit, now looked conspicuously out of place.

Seeing the Head Wolf staring at her, Xiaqing immediately held up the Protective Suit in one hand and the largest Yi Stone she possessed in the other, launching back into her sales pitch.

"Does the Queen need a Protective Suit? You only need a Yi Stone this small to trade me for this entire set. With just one Yi Stone, the Queen can look even more majestic and awe-inspiring. With just one Yi Stone, the Queen can..."

When she saw the Head Wolf close its eyes, Xiaqing, whose mouth was dry from all the talking, finally stopped. "Please consider it carefully, Queen. If you don’t want it, I’ll be trading it to some other dog or wolf in a few days."

Back in the house, Xiaqing saw a new message on her phone. She opened it and found a reply from Hu Zifeng, who said that Xu Pin had driven into the Second Territory that afternoon.

’So, was it Xu Pin who injured Tang Huai?’

No matter how you looked at it, Tang Huai was Tang Zhengsu’s nephew. And while his father, Tang Zhengpo, wasn’t an Evolver, he still had a certain degree of prestige and influence in the Safe Zone.

For Xu Pin to dare to lay a hand on Tang Huai, he must have had a compelling reason.

Xiaqing narrowed her eyes. ’Don’t tell me Xu Pin found out that Tang Huai warned me to be careful.’

’Does Tang Zhengpo know that Xu Pin beat up his son?’

In Territory No. 12, Tang Zhengpo ended the call with his younger son and rubbed his forehead. He then called Hu Zifeng, his voice calm and steady, betraying no negative emotion.

"Captain Hu, is Captain Luo feeling any better? I’ve contacted a reliable source at Hui Yi Base One and can procure two thousand catties of high-quality wheat seed with a Harmful Element content of 0.75 percent. The only thing is, it requires pickup. Could you please inform Captain Luo? If he’s interested, please have him contact me by 6 p.m. tomorrow at the latest."

’Two thousand catties?!’

After hanging up, Hu Zifeng immediately reported the news to his two captains. "Boss, maybe you should be the one to call Tang Zhengpo back tomorrow?"

Brother Luo wasn’t in any condition to speak with outsiders.

Yang Jin shook his head. "No rush. Let Brother Luo call him back tomorrow."

"Understood!" Hu Zifeng was so excited he nearly jumped for joy. The boss’s words meant that after taking the medicine, Brother Luo would show significant improvement by tomorrow. How could he not be thrilled?

After Hu Zifeng left, Yang Jin asked Xie Yu, "How much wheat seed have we managed to acquire?"

"Two thousand catties, also with a Harmful Element content of 0.75 percent," Xie Yu answered. "Since Tang Zhengpo needs us to pick up the seeds, he’ll have to give us at least half. Combined with what we have, that’s enough to plant a full hundred mu. Based on the yields in nearby territories this year, as long as there isn’t a major disaster, we should be able to harvest at least one hundred sixty thousand catties of wheat."

Yang Jin nodded. "That’s enough. We still need to set aside land for spinach, Chestnuts, rapeseed, and other crops."

A sly grin spread across Xie Yu’s face. "It certainly is enough. How about we trade a few dozen catties of our wheat seed to Sister Qing?"

Yang Jin shook his head. "No need. She definitely got high-quality wheat seed from Territory Land No. 7."

Xie Yu twirled the pen in his hand. "And what if she didn’t?"

"There is no ’what if.’" Yang Jin yawned and stood up. "I’m leaving the rest to you."

Xie Yu looked up, his curiosity piqued. "Why didn’t you stay longer at the Third Territory? I bet you barely said a few words to each other. Didn’t Sister Qing ask why you were gone for so long, or how you got that injury on your face?"

Yang Jin paused. "She was busy."

’Busy rushing home to stew a rabbit for her wolf.’

The Brain Domain Evolver Xie Yu, with his keen Observation, had eyes sparkling with gossip. "She was too busy to spare you any time, and you’re not angry?"

Yang Jin shook his head. "I’m not as petty as you are."

’Xiaqing has been alone for too long. It’s a good thing she has trustworthy companions now.’

’Who are you calling petty?’ Xie Yu snorted. "Go get some sleep. Stop hanging around in my sight, you’re an eyesore."

「The next morning」

Xiaqing lay in bed watching the Red Squirrel drink some water before getting up and heading downstairs. She saw the Yellow Light rabbit was still alive and quite lively, and the Spring Water Fish were swimming about. Humming a little tune, she asked the Sheep Leader, who was lying on the living room’s tatami mat, "Hey, Leader, want to go patrol the territory? I’ll pick you some fresh toon leaves to eat."

The Sheep Leader only got up from the tatami mat after hearing the last part of her sentence. He picked up his little basket in his mouth and followed Xiaqing outside.

Behind the house, the pair ran into the Sick Wolf on patrol. Xiaqing asked, "Second, did the Queen say when she’d be back before she left?"

Last night, a little after ten, Xiaqing had just fallen asleep when she received a phone notification. The Head Wolf had left the Third Territory under the cover of night. Xiaqing was eagerly hoping it would return with a Yi Stone to trade for her Protective Suit.

The Sick Wolf looked at Xiaqing with its clear eyes and gave a single wag of its tail.

’It seems happy. Looks like the Head Wolf will be back.’ Xiaqing stroked the Sick Wolf’s head, its fur growing thicker by the day, and then led the Sheep Leader north.

After inspecting the greenhouses on her farmland, Xiaqing left the Sheep Leader to continue catching insects while she went into the terraced fields on the low slope to check the Qiangwu Grass inside the Spring Cave.

With Yang Jin around yesterday, Xiaqing had been too self-conscious to stare at it for long. Now that she was alone, she turned on her phone’s flashlight for a closer look.

After observing it for a moment, Xiaqing thought the Qiangwu was less a grass and more a succulent.

Its leaves were thick, somewhat firm, and full of moisture. That appearance, combined with its preference for shade, made it resemble a type of potted succulent Xiaqing had raised before the Natural Disasters—one called Jade Dew.

If you didn’t care for a Jade Dew properly, it would rot and turn to mush.

A poorly cared-for Jade Dew turning to mush was a loss of a few bucks. But if the Qiangwu Grass rotted, the loss would be at least one million points.
