Chapter 286: Chapter 286: Man Wields Dog’s Power

The Jiang Bear Team, used to throwing their weight around with their dogs as backup, had no respect for the Danger Investigation Team. They didn’t give a damn about the territory’s safety. Their only goal was to use the barking to draw out the Green Dragon Team, creating an opportunity to enter the mountains and hunt for wolves.

When he realized the investigation team was actually about to attack his precious Evolutionary dogs, he was forced to give the order, but he couldn’t swallow his anger.

Tan Junjie ignored his sour expression. Once the situation was under control, he questioned Blind Jiang about the danger he’d raised. "Where’s the wolf scent?"

Hearing Tan Junjie’s question, Xiaqing wasn’t the least bit worried that Blind Jiang had detected a scent within the Third Territory.

That was because after the Wolf Group had left, Xiaqing had asked Chang Li to thoroughly eliminate the scent using Deodorant she’d gotten from Zhang San. A full day had passed since the cleaning, so any remaining wolf scent within the territory was incredibly faint.

’Even if the Evolutionary dogs manage to catch a faint whiff, I can just claim it drifted over from Mountain No. 49. And what if they don’t believe me and insist on letting the dogs inspect the Third Territory?’

’Hah.’

’I am the Lord of the Third Territory. Provided I haven’t broken any laws, anyone who enters my territory without permission can be considered a threat, and I am legally entitled to eliminate them.’

By the stream, the burly Blind Jiang impatiently pointed a large hand toward the valley from which the water flowed. "The scent is really strong in this valley!"

’Isn’t that just stating the obvious?’ Su Ming from the Danger Investigation Team thought, rolling his eyes.

Tan Junjie replied sternly, "Mountain No. 49, north of the Northern Isolation Zone, belongs to the Green Dragon Team. The Green Dragon Team has already filed a report that they have tamed wolf beasts on their training grounds."

Blind Jiang retorted confidently, "The Green Dragon Team only reported one tamed Evolutionary Wolf to the Alliance of Teams, but my Evolutionary dogs smell multiple wolves. By concealing this, the Green Dragon Team is endangering the adjacent territories. As the captain of the Danger Investigation Team for the First to Tenth Territories, you should investigate and eliminate this threat, shouldn’t you?"

Tan Junjie nodded, pressed the button on his walkie-talkie, and called No.1 Territory. "No.1 Territory, come in."

"This is No.1 Territory. Go ahead, Mr. Tan," Tang Zhou’s voice came through, sounding very respectful.

"The Jiang Bear Squad’s Evolutionary dogs have picked up the scent of multiple wolves on Mountain No. 49. For the safety of the territories, please provide an accurate report of the number of tamed wolf beasts and any other dangerous beasts on the mountain."

Tang Zhou reported immediately, "There is only one tamed wolf beast on Mountain No. 49. It got scared yesterday morning and ran into the Evolution Forest; we still haven’t found it. There are no other dangerous beasts on the mountain at present."

Using Tan Junjie’s walkie-talkie, Blind Jiang asked politely, "Brother Tang, it’s me, Yan Yuanjiang. My Evolutionary dogs smell multiple Evolutionary Wolves on Mountain No. 49. Is it possible some wolves slipped in without you noticing?"

Although Blind Jiang was the captain of the fifth-ranked team, when faced with Tang Zhou, the fourth-strongest combatant of the Green Dragon Team, he didn’t dare be impolite. In terms of combat power, Tang Zhou was superior to him.

Conversations on the Lord Channel were public, so Tang Zhou decided to save some face for Blind Jiang, who’d come all this way looking for an easy score. "Thanks for the heads-up, Captain Jiang. To help our tamed wolf feel a sense of belonging, we’ve scattered a good amount of Evolutionary Wolf droppings we collected around the training grounds and the northern mountain regions. That’s why you’re picking up a wolf scent."

"Oh, oh, okay," Blind Jiang replied, but his eyes blazed with fury. He didn’t believe a word of it.

It wasn’t just Blind Jiang who was skeptical; most people didn’t buy it. Wolves are territorial creatures. Placing another wolf’s droppings in a tamed wolf beast’s domain wouldn’t make it feel a sense of belonging—it would feel like an invasion.

’The Green Dragon Team would never make such a basic, common-sense error,’ Xiaqing thought. ’Tang Zhou must be setting a trap for the Jiang Bear Team. But whatever trap it is, they’ve successfully diverted the Jiang Bear Team’s attention to Mountain No. 49. That makes the Wolf Group even safer.’

’And from the look on Blind Jiang’s face, he’s clearly pinning the blame for all the wolf droppings scattered across the mountains to the north, No. 50 and No. 52, on the Green Dragon Team. I can’t tell if Tang Zhou’s claim about "scattering wolf droppings everywhere" is true or just a bluff. I’ll have to confirm it later.’

With the call to Tang Zhou over, the Jiang Bear Squad had no excuse to remain at the mouth of the valley. They had no choice but to follow Tan Junjie’s squad into the North Isolation Zone of No.3 Territory. Xiaqing climbed down from her tree and positioned herself in the Green Light Fruit Garden on the High Slope, slowing her breathing and staying perfectly still.

"WOOF, WOOF! WOOF WOOF!"

After climbing up to the Northern Isolation Zone on the High Slope, the Evolutionary dogs suddenly let out a series of deep-chested barks. The sound was different from before, tinged with obvious excitement—it was the cry they made upon finding prey. The Jiang Bear Squad grew excited as well, peering into Xiaqing’s territory.

Su Ming of the Danger Investigation Team drew his gun and warned the Jiang Bear Team, "Make your tamed beasts shut up."

Before the Jiang Bear Squad could respond, Zhang San’s voice rang out on the Lord Channel. "Captain Tan, are you still with those dogs? Make them shut up. If they scare the dairy cows in my territory again, I’ll be having dog meat hot pot for dinner."

Before Tan Junjie could even press the button to speak, a member of the Jiang Bear Squad shouted into his own comms, his voice broadcasting to the channel, "Who the fuck is that?! He touches one hair on my dog, and I’ll rip off one of his goddamn legs!"

Everyone on the channel was left speechless.

Zhang San replied coolly, "This is Zhang San from Territory Land No. 7. You want to rip off *my* leg, is that it? Come and get it."

Territory Land No. 7 Blacklist: +1.

Everyone listening in shared a silent, cynical laugh.

Xiaqing: ’God, I fucking love my idol’s pettiness!’

The moment he heard it was Territory Land No. 7, Blind Jiang kicked the squad member behind him to the ground. He bellowed at the Evolutionary dogs to be quiet, then turned to Tan Junjie and asked subserviently, "Captain Tan, may I please borrow your walkie-talkie? I need to apologize to Lord Zhang."

Tan Junjie passed him the walkie-talkie. Blind Jiang cleared his throat, then pressed the button. He stood there in the northern part of the Third Territory, practically bowing and scraping as he spoke. "Brother San, it’s Little Yan from the Jiang Bear Team. It’s my fault. I didn’t manage my team properly and let our dog startle your dairy cows. I’ll kill the dog right now, chop it into chunks, and send it over to you."

The Lord Channel went completely silent. Peeking through a gap in the trees, Xiaqing saw that Blind Jiang’s face was twisted in a pained grimace.

Tan Junjie took back the walkie-talkie. "Lord Zhang has a short fuse. Even if you kill the dog right now and leave it under the Territory Land No. 7 sign, no one will come out for it."

Hearing this, Blind Jiang began to plead. "Captain Tan, please, I’m begging you, put in a good word for me with Lord Zhang. We were in the wrong, we didn’t understand the rules..."

Xiaqing only stood up after the Jiang Bear Squad had left with the Danger Investigation Team.

’Strength determines status,’ she thought. ’Zhang San is arrogant because he has the power to be. When I’m strong enough, I can be that arrogant too!’

Xiaqing had never teamed up with the Jiang Bear Team, but she’d heard about how impressive their Evolutionary dogs were. Now, she had seen their capabilities firsthand.

’Dogs hunt using their hearing and sense of smell. I sprayed myself with the Deodorant from Zhang San and was crouched motionlessly in a spot where the Evolutionary dogs definitely couldn’t see me. So how did they find me?’
