Chapter 278: Chapter 278: Evolved Wild Goose

Meanwhile, Xie Yu, who was in charge of hunting activities in No.1 Territory, issued an announcement. "Attention, Lords. A flock of over a thousand evolved sandgulls is approaching at an altitude of five hundred meters. Please fly your Evolved Sea Eagle or Evolutionary Eagle kites at an altitude of four hundred meters."

"Understood. Thank you, Mr. Xie."

One after another, the Lords launched kites that could emit bird calls to protect the farmland within their territories.

The sharp-eyed Xiaqing noticed that the Evolved Sea Eagle taking flight over No. 8 Territory wasn’t a kite, but a real, live Sea Eagle!

Twenty-five minutes later, Xie Yu issued another announcement. "Attention, Lords. The flock of sandgulls has landed in the northern region of Mountain No. 49. The hunt has begun."

Less than a minute after Xie Yu’s announcement, a barrage of gunfire erupted in the northern region of Mountain No. 49. This meant the flock of sandgulls no longer posed a threat to the human territories. The Lords breathed a collective sigh of relief and began reeling in their kite lines.

Xiaqing, however, gave an order to Hu Zifeng’s team. "Everyone, some sandgulls will be passing over the territory soon. Feel free to shoot any you like."

The main flock of sandgulls had been intercepted at Mountain No. 49, but some were bound to get through. Xiaqing raised her rifle, aimed at the sky, and waited to pick off a few stragglers. ’If I manage to shoot down an edible one, I’ll have roasted bird for dinner tonight.’

But to her surprise, not a single bird from the thousand-strong flock of migratory sandgulls managed to fly over. The Green Dragon Team had wiped them all out!

With the evolved sandgulls annihilated, there was no longer any need for the kites. As everyone reeled in their lines, the Sea Eagle from No. 8 Territory circled twice before descending.

Xiaqing, who had been keeping a close eye on No. 8 Territory, confirmed that she hadn’t heard any whistle-like commands. In other words, the Sea Eagle was either equipped with an electronic device or had been recalled by a hand signal from someone within the territory.

Either way, it proved that the taming of the Evolved Sea Eagle in No. 8 Territory was a massive success!

Xiaqing glanced at the majestic Broken Waist Wolf squatting beside her and noticed it was also staring in the direction where the Sea Eagle from No. 8 Territory had descended. "See that? That’s the Sea Eagle from No. 8 Territory. First time I’ve seen it. If it flies over here to steal our chickens, you catch it. Don’t kill it. We’ll need to negotiate with No. 8 Territory for compensation."

The Broken Waist Wolf still had that all-knowing look on its face, though it was impossible to tell what it was thinking.

"Attention, Lords, another flock of evolved seagulls is approaching, numbering at least three hundred. Judging by the wind, they’ll be passing over the territories. Please be prepared," Tan Junjie announced.

Xie Yu spoke up. "We’re still cleaning up the kills on Mountain No. 49. I’ve already spoken with the team on Mountain No. 50; they’ll lure the flock over."

"Understood. Thanks, Mr. Xie," Xiaqing replied in the Lord channel, then had Jing Kuan launch the kite again.

The realistic kites from the other territories also quickly took to the sky.

This migratory season, Xiaqing truly witnessed the formidability of Xie Yu, the vice-captain of the Green Dragon Team.

This third-in-command, who guarded the team’s garrison, rarely made public appearances. Previously, all Xiaqing knew was that he was a bald Brain Domain Evolver, highly respected by the members of the Green Dragon Team.

Now, Xiaqing understood why he was so respected:

In the first ten days of the migratory season, the number of migratory birds flying over the territories was two-thirds less than those flying over the Evolution Forest to the east!

These two-thirds of the birds had all been intercepted and hunted down by the Green Dragon Team under Xie Yu’s command. To accomplish such a feat spoke volumes of his powerful leadership. The Green Dragon Team’s earnings from this hunt, if not a million points, had to be in the high hundred thousands.

Thanks to the Green Dragon Team’s hunting efforts, Territories No. 1 through No. 26, located on the South Slope of Mountain No. 49, made it through the first ten days of the migratory season safely and smoothly.

On the eleventh day, Xie Yu was recalled by the base to guard the Safe Zone. The Green Dragon Team was no longer actively luring birds, and the Lords’ migratory season officially began.

A little after six in the morning, Xiaqing watched a large flock of migratory birds fly into the distance and gave the order, "The flock has passed. Reel in the kites."

Jing Kuan and Eryong quickly reeled in the kite for the Third Territory, but Territory No. 4 was a bit slower. Their airborne Evolutionary Eagle kite was torn to shreds by an Evolutionary Eagle with a wingspan of over four meters that was tailing the flock.

Still not satisfied after shredding the kite, the Evolutionary Eagle let out a long shriek, tucked its wings, and dove toward Territory No. 4. A terrified Zhao Ze screamed into his walkie-talkie, "Xiaqing, help me!"

Before the sound of Zhao Ze’s voice faded, the diving Evolutionary Eagle’s neck was snapped by one of Xiaqing’s bullets, and it plummeted from the sky in a spray of blood.

Xiaqing, her sniper rifle fitted with a suppressor, smirked. After the last attack by the raptors, Luo Pei had created a training regimen for her specifically for hunting Evolved Fierce Birds to improve her accuracy against airborne targets. The last time she’d helped the Plucking Yellow Weasel, she had aimed for an Evolutionary Eagle’s neck but had missed, hitting its wing instead.

’I finally made the shot this time. Brother Luo won’t chew me out when I see him next.’

That one shot from Xiaqing sent a surge of adrenaline through the fleeing Zhao Ze and his workers in Territory No. 4.

’Xiaqing is incredible! Having a neighbor this badass makes you feel so safe!’

Xiaqing pressed the talk button on her device. "Brother Zhao, as soon as you see that the migratory flock isn’t descending, reel in your kite immediately. Otherwise, you’re guaranteed to be attacked by the raptors tailing them."

Zhao Ze was overwhelmed with gratitude. "Okay, okay! Thanks so much, sis! I’ll have the Evolutionary Eagle sealed and sent over to you right away."

Since Xiaqing had shot down the eagle, it rightfully belonged to her.

After Zhao Ze had it delivered, Xiaqing tested the carcass and found it was Red Light. She immediately had Guan Tong take it to No.1 Territory to be exchanged for points. She had already sent over a hundred such birds in the last few days.

"Damn, Xiaqing, your marksmanship is getting scarily good," Tang Huai said over the comms. "Think you can help us out with the raptors over the Second Territory?"

"Can’t. You’re out of range."

Xiaqing refused flatly. The only reason she was covering Territory No. 4 was because Tan Junjie, knowing she was stationed on the High Slope in the Third Territory, had specifically asked for her assistance.

As Lord No.3, Xiaqing earned both points and rewards under preferential Lord policies for sniping Evolved Fierce Birds in adjacent territories. The other territories had their own Danger Investigation Team for protection, so there was no need for her to waste her attention—or her bullets.

After all, Xiaqing had to spend her own points to buy every single one of those bullets.

On the fifteenth and final day of the migratory season, all the Lords began counting down, eagerly awaiting its end.

Their nerves had been stretched taut from morning till night every day. They had gone through over a dozen kites and even resorted to using bear roars, but they had finally made it through safely. Now, they were starting to think about what farm work needed to be done once the season was over.

A little after seven in the morning, Tan Junjie issued a grim warning. "Attention, all Lords. Two flocks of evolved geese, each numbering over five hundred, are heading toward Mountain No. 49. They are already beginning to lose altitude. Please prepare yourselves."

Evolved geese weighed over thirty pounds each. Although their diet after evolution still consisted mainly of small fish, shrimp, tender leaves, and fruit, they were formidable in combat. When migrating, they flew in a V-formation to enhance their defenses. Unless led by at least two Evolved Fierce Birds, most raptors didn’t dare to provoke a flock of geese.
