Chapter 235: Chapter 235: The Plucking Yellow Weasel’s Evolutionary Ability

After drying and burning the Injurious Grass, Xiaqing didn’t rush to clean up the fields. She decided to rest at home for a day, do some cleaning, and wash some clothes.

After giving the house a thorough cleaning—even tidying up the sheep pen and replacing the old straw mats with new ones—Xiaqing sat inside the insect-proof net tent she had set up in the courtyard, sipping white tea and admiring the clouds.

The sky was exceptionally blue after the Harmful Rain, and the white clouds were especially large and fluffy.

Xiaqing took a sip of tea from her lounge chair, then ate a piece of dried fruit, feeling comfortable all over. "Sheep Leader, look up. The clouds are really beautiful today."

The Sheep Leader didn’t even lift its head, its eyes narrowed as it stared at the dried fruit on the small table.

Xiaqing handed it one. "Dried thornberry. It’s Green Light, a little sour."

After eating one, the Sheep Leader looked away. Clearly, the dried thornberries weren’t to its taste, but Xiaqing quite liked them.

After tossing a few more into her mouth, the phone on the table rang. Xiaqing picked it up, saw the name on the display, and immediately sat up straight. "Captain Yang."

Yang Jin responded, his voice raspy. "I’m back."

’The Head Wolf and the Weasel came back three days ago, but Yang Jin is only just getting out of the Evolution Forest. He must have been delayed.’ She guessed the delay was caused by other teams gathering herbs there, as the wounds on the Head Wolf looked like they were from human melee weapons.

From the sound of his voice, Xiaqing could tell Yang Jin was exhausted. She didn’t press for details and instead extended a business invitation. "When will you have time to come over for a cup of tea?"

’We have business to discuss, and we should do it as soon as possible.’

Yang Jin paused for a few seconds before declining Xiaqing’s invitation. "Not anytime soon. I need to get back to the Safe Zone as soon as possible."

’Get back to the Safe Zone as soon as possible? You’re obviously just too scared to see Xiaqing!’ Unable to hold it in, Luo Pei, who was wearing a Protective Mask, stepped out of the room, closed the door, and doubled over in silent, convulsive laughter.

Xiaqing could hear the door closing but couldn’t see what was happening on Yang Jin’s end. She thought it was perfectly normal for him to be busy. "Then we’ll talk whenever you’re free."

Yang Jin glanced at Brother Luo, who was acting like a lunatic outside the window, and replied calmly, "Alright."

Just as Xiaqing was about to hang up, she heard Yang Jin ask, "The Weasel from the photo I sent you, did it come back with the Head Wolf?"

Xiaqing answered immediately, "It’s back. It was in my courtyard this morning plucking chicken feathers. What about it?"

Although he didn’t want Xiaqing to know about his embarrassing incident, Yang Jin was even more determined to prevent her from suffering the same fate. "You’d better stay far away from that Weasel. Don’t ever scare it or try to capture it. Its Evolutionary Ability is to release a toxic, foul-smelling gas. It’s very, very foul."

Oh.

Wait, what?!!

Xiaqing’s eyes widened. She wanted to ask Yang Jin how he knew the Weasel’s gas was so foul, but she felt it wouldn’t be appropriate.

Yang Jin answered before Xiaqing could even ask. "It released its gas in the Evolution Forest. It made several people vomit, and the one who took a direct hit passed out immediately."

’It’s that powerful?’ Xiaqing quickly asked, "Is everyone okay now?"

Yang Jin gave a simple reply, "The one who passed out wasn’t on my team."

’That person is fine now. He fell into a pond and was swallowed by an Evolved Python. A shame about that set of Special Level gear.’

’If it wasn’t someone from the Green Dragon Team, then it must have been a member of another team or faction competing for herbs in the Evolution Forest. Good for them, getting knocked out.’ Xiaqing felt relieved. She couldn’t help but wonder if the person was knocked out by the Weasel’s poison, the stench, or a combination of both.

’Wait a minute!’

Thinking it over again, Xiaqing realized something was off. "Doesn’t everyone wear a Protective Mask in the Evolution Forest?"

’Is the Weasel’s stench so powerful it can penetrate the mask’s air filtration system?’

Yang Jin replied calmly, "The fighting was too intense. The Protective Mask broke."

When Luo Pei heard what Yang Jin said, he couldn’t hold it in any longer. "HA, HAHA, HAHAHA—"

Hearing Brother Luo’s wild laughter through Yang Jin’s phone, Xiaqing couldn’t hold back either. The mental image of a weasel’s gas making people vomit and pass out was something she shouldn’t dwell on—the more she thought about it, the funnier it got. ’Sorry, I really can’t help it.’ Xiaqing hung up the phone and slammed her hand on the table, roaring with laughter.

The noisy assault was one thing, but the repeated thumps on the table were another. The Sheep Leader, enraged, leaped up and flipped Xiaqing’s chair over with its horns.

Sprawled on the ground, Xiaqing just slapped the floor and kept laughing.

His mind filled with the sound of Xiaqing’s bright, clear laughter, Yang Jin couldn’t help but smile. With his mood lifted, he looked at Brother Luo acting like a maniac and slapping the window outside and found him slightly less punchable.

「Two days later」

At dawn, when Xiaqing saw the Weasel squatting in her courtyard, trembling as it plucked feathers under the watchful eyes of three wolves and a sheep, her first instinct was to quickly put on her Protective Mask.

Xiaqing couldn’t stop herself from smiling as she put on the mask. She had laughed more in the past two days than in the entire ten years since the Natural Disaster began. Her cheeks ached from it.

Hearing Xiaqing’s laughter, the Weasel, which had a few pheasant feathers stuck to its head, raised its glistening black eyes to look at her, its small whiskers trembling.

It was incredible that such a small and timid animal could release a stench capable of knocking out a powerful, evolved human.

Xiaqing first expressed her admiration to the Head Wolf. "Thank you for the rabbit, Your Majesty. I’ll clean it right away and cook it for Second. None of Your Majesty’s companions are freeloaders, that’s for sure. Even this Weasel is a hidden master. I’m impressed, truly impressed."

After picking up the rabbit from the doorway, she saw the Weasel flinch again at her movement. Xiaqing smiled and greeted it, "Morning. That’s a lot of feathers on today’s pheasant, huh?"

’I was thinking about asking the Queen if I could have this plucker. But now? I don’t dare. I just want it to know I’m friendly.’

The Weasel trembled and began plucking feathers even faster. It clearly hadn’t gotten the message.

’Why didn’t it get the message?’

Message Sender: Human

Message Receiver: Weasel

Transmission Method: Vocal emotion and facial expression obscured by a Protective Mask.

An animal that could accurately perceive her intentions through all that wouldn’t be an Evolved Weasel, but a Yellow Immortal.

Xiaqing went back inside, tested the rabbit, and found it was Green Light. She didn’t contact Territory Land No. 7 to trade it because this one was for her and the Sick Wolf. She cleaned the rabbit, cooked the organs for the Sick Wolf, and stored the rest of the meat in her underground cellar.

Once her refrigerator arrived, she could freeze the meat, extending its shelf life significantly.

Of course, the climate control system in the underground cellar could also be set below freezing, but setting the temperature too low would ruin the grains and potatoes, which wasn’t worth it.

After the cooked organs had cooled, Xiaqing added two spinach leaves and brought the bowl outside to feed the wolf. Since the Wolf Group had returned, the Sick Wolf had moved back into the sheep pen, so Xiaqing’s feeding spot had also moved back to just outside the pen.

The Weasel had already finished its work and left. The Head Wolf was eating a dressed chicken outside the sheep pen. Xiaqing noticed that the wound on its side had already scabbed over.

Xiaqing called the Sick Wolf over to eat and the Broken Waist Wolf to take its medicine.
