As Jean prepared the coffee, Kai decided to put Elara to bed.

He carefully lowered his baby girl onto the soft mattress, making sure she was comfortable before pulling the blanket lightly over her. Looking at her sleeping peacefully, it spread warmth in his chest. There was something very precious about watching your loved one at peace.

Leaning down, he placed a soft kiss on the top of her head.

"Sleep well, Elli."

He was about to step out of the room when he received a text.

It was actually a bank alert that he has received ten thousand dollars in his account.

And alongside that, a text from Adam reading,

’The raid fee must have reached you by now. Good work today.’

Kai’s brows raised as he asked, ’This surely isn’t the fee for an E-rank dungeon.’ if it was, not every E-rank had has been so desperate for more work.

’The ones you saved asked you to have their share as well. They have sent their gratitude as well.’

Kai sighed and decided to end the conversation here. Well, any money was good money as long as it doesn’t cause him trouble.

He soon stepped out of the room and found Jean preparing the coffee.

"Were you getting bored?" Kai asked. "You picked up the call almost instantly."

Jean hummed as she poured the coffee into two cups. "Well, there are quite a few rooms here, so I was exploring the place."

She suddenly remembered something and turned around to look at him.

"Sorry about earlier. I shouldn’t have gone into your room without asking you."

Kai shook his head. "I don’t mind, actually. There’s nothing in there I wish to hide from you."

"But still, it’s rude to enter someone’s private space without their knowledge."

Kai didn’t argue with her. Instead, he asked, "Did you get a call from Naomi today?"

Jean shook her head as she carried the two cups toward the table.

"No. But I’m thinking of giving her a call today."

Kai leaned back in his chair, resting his hands on the table.

When Jean placed his cup in front of him, he gave her a grateful nod before saying, "I actually asked around a little yesterday, mostly talking to some of the other people in the household. And it turns out... that factory is supposed to be demolished soon."

Jean paused before finally lowering herself into the chair across from him.

"How likely are these rumors to be true? I mean, there have been plenty of times when demolition notices were issued before."

Kai shook his head. "I can’t say for sure. But, Jean, that factory is being rented out to the nearby stores. The original owner might have already sold the property."

Jean fell silent.

The possibility of losing their home had always hung over them like a shadow.

She still remembered how terrified she had been when she used to live there. She had been a little over seven months pregnant at the time, barely able to move around comfortably, and around that time as well the rumors were growing about the factory about to be demolished.

The thought of searching for a new place, wondering where they would go and what kind of people they would have to deal with, had kept her constantly on edge.

Things had improved considerably since then.

But for the people still living there, that fear had never truly disappeared. They remained under the constant threat of becoming homeless once again.

"Hey, don’t worry."

Kai’s voice pulled her out of her thoughts.

"I’ll help them somehow. I know a few people who could provide them with lodging at a very cheap rate. And if they can do some small jobs around the community there, they might even be able to have the rent waived."

Jean’s eyes widened.

"You really know someone like that?"

Kai grinned.

"Not exactly me, but I know someone who does."

As if summoned by his words, his phone began ringing.

Kai glanced at the screen.

"Ah, it’s Mark."

He looked toward Jean. "Mind if I take this?"

Jean shook her head. "Go ahead."

Kai stood from the chair and answered the call.

"Hey, mate. Can’t stay at home now that you’re over your honeymoon phase?"

A familiar voice immediately came from the other end.

{You know that’s ridiculous. My Mia is an angel. I could never get tired of her. Her mother is a little sick, so she’s visiting her. I thought that if you’re free, maybe we should meet?}

Kai hummed and glanced at the clock.

It was around two in the afternoon, which meant there was little chance of him returning to his old house today.

He turned away for a moment before muting the call and looking at Jean.

"Is it a good time to call him over?"

He wanted her to be comfortable with Mark visiting. It was the middle of the afternoon, and she might have been tired, so he thought it was better to ask first rather than simply invite someone over.

Jean immediately nodded.

"Yes, sure. I’ll prepare lunch."

Kai smiled.

"Relax. You don’t have to prepare anything special."

He unmuted the call.

{Got the wifey’s permission?}

"..."

Kai’s expression went blank.

This was exactly why he didn’t like talking to Mark in front of Jean.

He immediately walked a little farther away before speaking.

"Hey, before you come over, can you do something for me?"

{What is it?}

"Can you go to my old house and take care of a few things there? I left my old residence in a rush and didn’t inform the landlord. He’ll probably check the place and demand compensation..."

{Wait. You shifted your house? Where are you living now? Paul’s Street?}

Kai gave a wry smile hearing that.

As expected, this was going to earn him a whole lot of questions.
