Family Man System: Taking Care Of My Family Makes Me OP
Chapter 62: Pervert?
Despite being utterly enraged and frustrated that day, his fight against Drake had inadvertently taught Kai something important about the Void Sword.
He had yet to unlock its full potential, but what fascinated him most was the invisible blade he could extend from it, allowing him to catch his enemies completely off guard.
The Void Sword might appear to be nothing more than a flaming black sword, but its true reach extended far beyond what the naked eye could perceive. More importantly, that reach was determined entirely by Kai’s own capabilities.
With his current magical abilities, he could extend the blade by nearly ten feet, though only for a few seconds at a time.
That was also the reason he felt more fatigued now than he had after hunting those weaker monsters. Extending the Void Sword had placed a considerably greater strain on him than simply cutting through his previous opponents.
But well, he has already decided to return home since it was enough hunting for one day.
As he stood in the kitchen drinking water he checked the rewards.
[Upon leveling up, the host has earned:
1. Five Attribute Points
2. 500 SP
3. Random Skill Box]
Kyle’s brows elevated. ’That is quite the reward.’ he wasn’t expecting five points. And that skill box...he would get to it later.
He first distributed his points and his new stats looked like,
[Your current stats:
Str: 19-> 21
Spd: 26
End: 20
Int: 18-> 21
MP: 35]
[Attribute Points: 0]
He invested points to intelligence since the system earlier informed him how intelligence greatly influenced magic efficiency. More intelligence means he would waste less mana during every usage.
He was then going to check the box when suddenly he heard someone approaching and stopped.
"Hmm?"
Jean approached from inside the house and looked at him in surprise.
"When did you return?"
She had not heard the front door open at all, which concerned her slightly.
Kai quickly reassured her. "Only I can enter the house like this. I have the master key."
Jean slowly nodded in understanding before looking him over again.
"Are you okay? You look a little tired." she asked, approaching him.
Kai assured her, "Nothing a few minutes of Elli could not heal."
Jean chuckled at his remedy before saying, "She is sleeping right now. Want me to bring her here?"
Kai recoiled. "I am not heartless. Let her rest."
He made his way toward the chair and sat down before asking, "What do you want for lunch?"
Jean shook her head. "I have already prepared it. Want me to bring you some rice?"
Kai nodded. "Yes, of course."
Jean hummed in acknowledgment and returned to the kitchen.
She tied her hair back, washed her hands, and began serving the meal.
Watching her from behind, Kai could not help but smile.
"Oh, this is nice."
"What is?" Jean asked without turning around.
Kai hesitated, suddenly realizing how that sounded. "I mean... I can see you cooking now without any trouble."
Jean paused and glanced at him over her shoulder.
"I guessed what you meant the first time, but I decided to give you a second chance to come up with a better explanation."
Kai gave her a sheepish smile. "Yet I chose to remain truthful."
The corners of her lips curved faintly as she turned her attention back to the rice cooker.
"Well, hopefully you aren’t looking anywhere weird."
Kai coughed. "Don’t make it sound perverted when my eyes are completely wholesome."
Jean hummed thoughtfully. "Then should I assume you don’t look at me like a woman?"
Kai was caught off guard by the question.
"I never said that..." He paused, searching for the right words. "It’s just... the whole atmosphere of you cooking for me."
By then, Jean had reached the table. Kai fell silent for a moment, then looked directly into her eyes.
"It... feels like we’re family."
Jean had been about to tell him that she was only teasing him, but the sincerity in his eyes made the words die before they could leave her lips.
Nodding, she said, "Eat while it’s still hot."
Kai took a deep breath and finally tore his eyes away from her.
Picking up a spoon, he looked down at the dishes. "Hmm, you made fish, huh? Was it difficult removing the scales?"
Jean sat down to his left. "Not at all. I have some experience cooking with basic tools. What you brought was more than enough."
"Well, there are still quite a few things missing, so let me know whenever you realize you need something."
Jean nodded. "For now, we need a crib for her."
Kai hummed as he scooped some rice onto his spoon. "Yeah. We can get one on our way back."
He took his first bite, and his eyes immediately brightened.
"Quite nice."
Jean smiled at his reaction before asking, "You never told me where we’re going."
Kai tilted his head. "I thought women liked surprises."
Jean hummed. "So now you’re finally seeing me as a woman?"
Kai groaned, only for Jean to chuckle.
"I’m just joking. And yes, I do like surprises, but at least I should know where we’re going so I can get ready accordingly."
She lowered her eyes for a moment, looking slightly embarrassed as she added, "I may not have many pairs of clothes, but I can at least put a little effort into doing my hair and some makeup."
Kai hummed thoughtfully before telling her, "Just wear whatever makes you comfortable. You’d look beautiful in just about anything."
Jean narrowed her eyes. "Now that’s a big, fat lie."
"No, I swear." Kai’s eyes widened with genuine disbelief. "You’re naturally quite charming. I mean, remember how many confessions you received back in school? Even now, whenever we go out, I almost growl at every other man who stares at you."
Jean’s brows rose.
"You get angry at them?"
Kai raised a finger, his lips parting as if he were about to explain himself.
No words came.
In the end, he decided to exercise his right to remain silent.
Jean leaned forward and rested her elbows on the table, then cradled her face in her hands.
"Well, back in school, you definitely didn’t care who confessed to me, did you?"
Kai continued chewing, his eyes narrowing slightly as he looked at her.
The sight was apparently too amusing for Jean to resist. She smiled and rose from her seat.
"I’ll go get changed. Be with Elli once you’re done."
Kai hummed in acknowledgment.
Just as she was about to leave, however, he called out.
"I did."
Jean briefly stopped.
She did not turn around. Instead, she continued walking with a broad smile spreading across her face.
