Family Man System: Taking Care Of My Family Makes Me OP

Chapter 22: Too hot to handle

Chapter 22: Too hot to handle

When Kai returned inside the house, he found Jean looking at him worryingly.

He faintly smiled and said, "Everything is fine. They were here to reward me."

"Hmm?" Jean asked. "What reward?"

Kai rubbed the back of his head. "Well, I killed a hound yesterday. You see, the underground station was ambushed by them, and one of them broke past their defenses and had me cornered. I somehow managed to kill it."

Jean turned completely silent, her eyes slightly widening. She rested the baby on the bed and approached him. "And you didn’t find it necessary to tell me? Kai, this isn’t a small matter. Did you get hurt?"

Kai shook his head. "Nothing too serious. And... I thought you were already too anxious about our living arrangements to mention the incident."

Jean pursed her lips briefly before exhaling a sigh. "I have been troubled with my own concerns too much to properly look at you."

Kai assured her, "That’s fine. And dungeon outbreaks are pretty common."

"But it’s never safe," Jean added before looking up. "Kai... I know you don’t have a high rank to go on raids often. And yet you went against that monster all alone. Were you really fine?"

Kai didn’t feel offended by her assumption since she was right about him participating in barely any raids. His rank rarely gave him the opportunity, and because he couldn’t afford high-end tools, he never had the means to protect himself. So yes, her concern was spot on.

However, "When I was standing before it, its eyes on me and its intent bare for me to dread... I was scared. I won’t deny it. However, when I thought about her..." He glanced at the baby girl, who was currently watching her parents with curious eyes. "...I got the strength I needed to fight it and survive."

He faintly smiled and added, "Before her, I had nothing to live for... but now, I feel I have everything to lose if I ever give up."

Jean watched the warmth and genuine love in his eyes for their child.

He had met her just a couple of days ago, and yet their bond appeared very strong.

She exhaled a sigh and asked, "Is your injury well now? Do you want me to take a look?"

Kai slowly moved his shoulder. "It should..." He winced. Something indeed stung.

Jean said, "Let me see. Maybe we need to change the dressing."

Kai nodded. The wound was deeper than he thought. Though not even twenty-four hours had passed, he expected it to at least have stopped hurting.

Maybe I need to focus on my diet more.

He slowly began to remove his shirt, going through one button at a time while Jean walked to the cabinet to bring the medical box.

Once she returned, Kai just tossed the shirt onto the chair... and the first thing Jean saw wasn’t his wound.

’Damn...’ Her eyes were drawn to his bare self.

His body was well sculpted for a man surviving solely on instant noodles and following an unhealthy lifestyle.

His abs were perfectly visible, along with strong chest muscles, and there were numerous battle marks marring his frame as well, giving him a rugged impression.

Just the removal of a single piece of clothing could make someone appear so much different.

She shook the thought away instantly and said, "Come, sit down here."

Kai noticed her gaze but didn’t comment on it. He wasn’t particularly the type to flaunt his body, but seeing her appreciative gaze had him smiling inwardly.

As he sat down, Jean said, "You have already removed the bandages. And now, the wound is on the verge of reopening."

There was a claw mark on his upper arm that reached his shoulder. They were deep but thin, and since he had a regeneration ability, there was no need for stitches.

But still, "I should apply some ointment and then let the wound remain uncovered for some time."

Kai groaned. "Baby would be unsafe in my arms. What if she licked the ointment somehow?"

Jean grinned and looked down at him. "Then the baby stays with me till then. She needs to understand that her Daddy requires some time to heal."

Kai grumbled, "You are having fun, aren’t you?"

Jean just smiled ear to ear and started cleaning his wound.

Kai faintly smiled as well before shaking his head.

Soon, he received a call from none other than the agent who had shown him his house yesterday.

Jean saw the name as well and turned to Kai. "Are you sure about it?" Her voice held uncertainty.

Kai, though, spoke without a speck of it. "Without a doubt."

With that, he picked up the call.

It was time to say goodbye to his first house.
