Family Man System: Taking Care Of My Family Makes Me OP

Chapter 21: Inquiry and annoying

Chapter 21: Inquiry and annoying

Naturally, Jean got worried the moment she heard who they were as she glanced at Kai.

However, Kai realized why they could be here, so he assured her, "Don’t worry. I was expecting them." He slowly moved toward her and handed her the baby, who mumbled something, a little reluctant to let go of her father.

Kai turned to Jean and told her once again, "Don’t worry, everything is fine. Just give me a moment."

Jean relaxed a bit seeing how calm he was and nodded in understanding.

Kai then advanced toward the door and pulled it open.

On the other side were two men wearing slick black uniforms, and the one on the left said, "Greetings, Mister Kai. My name is Adam, and this one is my junior, Dave. We are from the Surveillance Department of the Hunter’s Association. Can we chat for a minute?"

Kai nodded and slowly closed the door behind him, which the junior noticed, but he didn’t say anything. He simply heard Kai say, "Yeah. What is it?"

Adam continued, "Yesterday, an unfortunate incident occurred where many people, including yourself, got involved in a monster attack. Later, when forced to, you had to battle a monster alone, and you successfully defeated it too, at the cost of a severe injury."

Kai wryly smiled. "I wouldn’t call it severe. It was just a scratch, and now it is completely healed too."

Adam faintly smiled and said, "We have seen the footage, Mister Kai, and could tell the wound was quite deep. But going through your profile made me realize why you didn’t stay at the hospital and right now appear quite fine. After all, you have quite the rare talent of self-regeneration."

Kai nodded. "True. I was healed when I woke up."

Adam nodded before he said, "For your bravery, the Association wants to reward you. If there is something specific in your mind that we could fulfill within our limitations, then please let us know. Of course, you would be compensated with a monetary reward soon as well."

Kai really didn’t have anything in mind right now, and as far as he had seen from the Association, it was better not to remain involved with them for long. So he said, "I might go through a rank reevaluation soon. Can I get a special permit or something for that?"

He had the chance to go through a breakthrough, and once that happened, he would try getting a new rank so he could participate in raids and earn a little more than depending on the System and his side hustle alone.

Since the re-evaluation was always booked for weeks, he asked the man if he could get some backdoor permit or something.

"Understood. Any time you wish to go through the assessment, just call this number and you will be given the earliest available date."

He handed Kai his card, which Kai took with a thankful nod.

Just when Kai thought the conversation was over and they could go their ways, the silent junior finally spoke up. "Excuse me, Mister Kai. The dagger you used back then to hunt the hound... did you purchase it recently?"

Kai froze in his place briefly before he said, "Not really purchased. I got it from someone who wishes to keep his identity hidden."

Naturally, that dagger would get their attention because even an F-rank like himself was able to defeat a hound using it, and in just one attack no less.

However, he couldn’t tell them that he got it from somewhere else since they probably had the data of all the workshops that sold enhanced weapons. The series of questions would only have continued from there.

However, his hopes for the conversation to end there weren’t answered as Dave further asked, "Can we take a look at the armament, if you don’t mind?"

Kai was speechless for a moment before he said, "Not right now, since I have sent it for repair." He was now getting annoyed with the question, but it didn’t end there.

"You do know that you need to have a license for every high-grade armament you possess, right? Do you have one for that?"

Kai exhaled a long breath and asked, "You are implying that I stole it from somewhere?"

Dave raised his hands and said, "I just was curious if you know exactly what you are handling."

Kai’s expression turned cold as he muttered, "A low-ranked hunter having a high-grade armament... it just doesn’t belong there, aren’t you thinking that?"

Dave turned silent for a moment before his senior spoke up. "Excuse my curious junior, Mister Kai. He just follows law and order a little too strictly. In fact, we should be thankful that you had the help of the armament, or who knows how many more people would have paid the price for our incapability."

Kai didn’t say anything and just stared at him.

Adam realized the conversation had already steered in a direction where their presence was becoming a disturbance, so he said, "Please do let me know if you want to go through another evaluation. We will take our leave now."

Kai watched them descend the stairs and proceed toward the car.

Just before climbing inside, Dave threw a glance at Kai before silently sitting inside.

Kai rolled his eyes. Just the perfect way of ruining his sweet morning.
