Falling For The True Heiress
Chapter 123: Please Save Her For Me...
Everything just happened so suddenly that I wasn’t able to process it.
One moment, I was driving down the road with my hands on the steering wheel, my mind still filled with Sylvia.
The next moment, a loud horn suddenly exploded through the air.
"HOOOONK!"
My eyes widened.
A huge heavy-duty truck appeared right in front of me.
"What—?"
I didn’t even have enough time to think.
I immediately stepped hard on the brake and turned the steering wheel.
"SCREEEECH!"
The tires dragged violently against the road.
My car suddenly turned, and my heart jumped into my throat as the truck came closer.
Then...
"CRASH!"
A strong impact slammed into my car, and my whole body was thrown violently.
My head hit the steering wheel hard.
"Ah!"
A sharp pain exploded through my head. Before I could even understand what had happened, my car started rolling.
Everything around me turned upside down.
The sound of metal scraping against the road filled my ears.
"BANG!"
My body was thrown against the side of the car as the car rolled again.
My head hit the windshield, and the glass cracked instantly.
A spiderweb of cracks spread across the windshield before pieces of it broke apart and fell around me.
I couldn’t even scream.
My body was tossed around inside the car as it continued rolling. The seatbelt pulled painfully against my chest.
My head hit something again, and another loud bang filled my ears. Then, suddenly, everything stopped.
For a few seconds, I didn’t understand what had happened.
I remained still, unable to move. My ears were ringing badly. A strange buzzing sound filled my head, making it difficult to hear anything else.
I tried to breathe. My chest rose slowly before I released a shaky breath, and then I felt something warm sliding down my forehead.
At first, I thought it was sweat. But when it reached the corner of my eye, I realized it wasn’t.
It was blood.
I slowly raised my trembling hand and touched my forehead.
The moment my fingers touched the wound, a sharp pain shot through my head.
I immediately pulled my hand back, and my breathing became uneven.
I looked at my fingers. They were stained red.
Blood.
My blood.
I blinked slowly and looked around.
The inside of the car looked completely different from how it had looked only a few minutes ago.
The windshield was broken. Glass covered parts of the dashboard and seats. The steering wheel was bent slightly.
The air inside the car smelled of dust, metal, and something burning.
I tried to move, but pain shot through my body. I clenched my teeth and tried again.
My fingers and my arms moved slightly, but my legs felt strange.
They were heavy. I couldn’t properly feel them.
I swallowed hard.
What just happened?
I tried to turn my head, but a terrible pain spread through my skull.
"Ah..."
A weak sound escaped my lips, and I closed my eyes.
My head was spinning. It felt as if the whole world was turning around me.
I tried to talk, but my throat felt dry.
"Help..."
I didn’t know if anyone could hear me. I didn’t even know if anyone was around.
I opened my eyes again, and everything looked blurry.
I blinked many times, but my vision refused to become clear.
The road outside looked like a mixture of light and shadows.
I could hear cars passing somewhere nearby, but no one stopped.
I wanted to reach for my phone. My hand moved slowly toward the seat beside me, but I couldn’t find it.
My strength was disappearing, and my breathing became weaker.
I rested my head against the seat and closed my eyes for a moment. And the moment I did, Sylvia’s face appeared in my mind.
Sylvia.
My chest tightened.
I remembered her standing in front of me.
Her hair moving slightly in the breeze. Her beautiful face looked tired. Her eyes had been filled with pain.
She had looked at me as if she didn’t know what to do with the love she still had for me.
I remembered the way she had stopped me.
I remembered her words.
No need to call me babe anymore. Just call me by my name.
My heart hurt immediately.
"Sylvia..." I whispered her name.
A tear slowly rolled from the corner of my eye.
It mixed with the blood on my face before sliding down my cheek.
So I won’t be able to see Sylvia again?
The thought frightened me, and my lips started trembling.
Was this really how everything would end?
Would I die here?
Alone?
Would the last thing between Sylvia and me be our breakup?
I had been the one who asked to break up.
I had pushed her away. I had hurt her.
And now that I finally understood how much I couldn’t live without her, it might already be too late.
"No..."
I tried to move my body again. I needed to get out.
I needed to see her and apologize again.
My breathing became shaky.
"Sylvia..." I called her name again.
This time, my voice was even weaker.
I remembered everything about her.
The first time she smiled at me. The first time we spent time together. The way she looked at me when she was happy. The way she would sometimes tease me. The way she held my hand and the warmth of her body whenever she hugged me.
All those memories came rushing into my mind at once.
It was strange.
I had never realized how many memories we had created together until I thought I was about to lose them.
Tears continued falling from my eyes.
I didn’t care about the blood anymore. I didn’t care about the pain.
All I cared about was Sylvia.
I wanted to see her one more time.
Even if she was still angry with me. Even if she refused to forgive me. Even if she didn’t want to call me "babe" anymore.
I just wanted to see her.
I wanted to hear her voice. I wanted to hear her say my name.
My fingers slowly curled against the seat.
So I would die with Sylvia being annoyed with me?
The thought broke something inside me.
"No..." I shook my head weakly. "No, I don’t want that."
I tried to open my eyes wider. I tried to force myself to stay awake.
I couldn’t die.
Not yet.
I still had things to say. I still had things to fix. I still had to get Sylvia back.
My head suddenly became heavier, and the ringing in my ears grew louder.
The world around me began fading.
I blinked, but my vision became darker.
I fought against it.
I didn’t want to close my eyes. I was afraid that if I closed them, I wouldn’t open them again.
But my body was no longer listening to me.
My breathing became slow, and my fingers loosened.
The last thing I saw was the broken windshield and the bright afternoon light shining through it.
I thought about Sylvia one last time, and then darkness swallowed me.
The truck driver that hit Amelia’s car didn’t stop at all to know if he had injured someone.
He didn’t step out of the truck. He didn’t look back. He didn’t even slow down.
He simply continued driving.
The heavy-duty truck moved farther and farther away, leaving Amelia’s badly damaged car behind.
Cars continued passing.
Some drivers slowed down when they noticed the accident, but none of them stopped.
Amelia remained inside the damaged car. Blood had stained her face and hair. Her eyes were closed, and her body was completely still.
She was unconscious and unaware of everything happening around her.
Dust drifted slowly across the road.
Then, after several minutes, another car appeared on the road.
It was a black SUV.
The vehicle moved smoothly along the road.
A man in a navy-blue suit sat in the backseat. He looked calm as he stared through the windshield.
His dark hair was neatly arranged, and his suit looked almost untouched by the heat outside.
His assistant was behind the steering wheel.
They were driving quietly until they passed the accident.
The man’s eyes suddenly moved toward the damaged car. Something about it caught his attention.
He frowned.
He turned his head slightly and looked through the rear window as the car continued moving.
The damaged vehicle became smaller behind them. But the feeling in his chest didn’t disappear.
Instead, it became stronger.
He had seen that car before, and he was sure of it.
"Stop."
His assistant looked at him through the rearview mirror.
"Sir?"
"Stop the car."
The assistant immediately pressed the brake.
The black SUV slowed down before coming to a stop.
The man leaned forward and looked through the windshield.
His eyes remained fixed on the damaged car behind them.
"Why does it feel like I have seen this car before?" he said quietly.
His assistant glanced at the accident.
"Sir, most people have it. Maybe that was how you saw it."
The man shook his head. "No."
There was something different about this car.
He wasn’t simply recognizing the model. He recognized the actual vehicle.
His eyes narrowed as he tried to remember.
"No. That’s not where I..." His voice suddenly stopped as a memory flashed of how he knew the car came through his mind.
His expression changed immediately.
"Amelia’s car."
The moment the words left his mouth, he pushed the car door open.
His assistant barely had time to react.
"Sir!"
The man stepped out and immediately started running. His polished shoes hit the asphalt as he rushed toward the damaged vehicle.
"Amelia!" His voice echoed across the road.
He didn’t care about the cars passing nearby. He didn’t care about his expensive suit becoming dirty.
All he could think about was the person inside the damaged car.
"Amelia!"
He ran faster.
When he finally reached the car, his expression changed completely.
Amelia was lying inside.
She wasn’t moving. Her face was covered with blood. Her hair was messy, and there were pieces of broken glass around her.
The sight made his heart drop.
"Amelia..."
He moved closer. His hands trembled slightly as he reached toward her.
"Amelia, can you hear me?"
There was no response.
He touched her shoulder. There was still no response.
"Amelia!" His voice became desperate.
His assistant finally reached him. "Sir!"
The man looked at him. "Come over fast."
His assistant rushed to his side. He looked inside the car and immediately understood the situation.
"Oh my God..."
"Let’s push this car up. My friend is dying."
Fear was clear in the man’s voice.
His assistant quickly nodded. "Yes, sir."
They moved toward the damaged vehicle.
The car was heavy, and part of it had been badly crushed from the impact. They placed their hands against the side.
"One, two, three!"
They pushed it, but the vehicle barely moved.
The man gritted his teeth. "Again!"
They pushed with all their strength.
"One, two, three!"
The damaged car shifted slightly. The sound of metal scraping against the road made both men wince.
They pushed again.
This time, they managed to move the vehicle enough to create space.
Amelia’s body shifted toward the other seat.
The man immediately reached inside.
"Amelia!"
He carefully moved his hand toward her.
She remained unconscious. Her head fell slightly to the side.
He quickly supported it as his heart was pounding.
"Stay with me."
He didn’t know if she could hear him, but he continued talking anyway.
"Amelia, don’t give up." His voice was low and shaky.
His assistant looked at him with concern.
He had never seen his boss this frightened before.
The man reached farther inside the car and tried to open the door.
It was stuck.
He pulled the handle, and nothing happened.
He pulled again, and still nothing.
"Damn it." He looked around quickly. "Help me."
His assistant immediately moved closer, and they forced the damaged door open.
With a loud metallic sound, the door finally gave way.
The man didn’t waste another second. He reached inside and carefully pulled Amelia toward him.
Her body was limp. Her head rested against his chest as he lifted her out.
"Amelia..."
He looked down at her face.
Her skin looked pale. Blood continued to run slowly down the side of her face.
His expression became even more worried.
"Sir, should I call an ambulance?" his assistant asked.
The man looked at him. "No. Open the door immediately."
His assistant didn’t argue. He turned and ran toward the black car.
The man carefully carried Amelia away from the wreckage.
Her arms hung weakly at her sides. Her head rested against his shoulder.
He adjusted his hold, making sure she wouldn’t fall.
"Stay alive," he whispered and glanced at her face. "Please."
His voice almost broke.
He carried her toward the car. His assistant reached the vehicle first and opened the back door.
The man stepped inside while still carrying Amelia.
He gently placed her across the backseat, and then he climbed in after her.
He immediately looked at his assistant.
"Drive fast to any nearest hospital now."
"Yes, sir."
His assistant quickly closed the door. He ran around to the driver’s side and got into the car.
He started the engine immediately, and the tires moved against the road.
The car sped away.
Inside the backseat, the man kept one hand beneath Amelia’s head as he watched her face closely.
"Amelia." He gently tapped her cheek. "Can you hear me?"
But there wasn’t any answer.
His eyes moved to the blood covering her forehead, and his jaw tightened.
"Don’t you dare die." His voice was quiet but filled with fear.
The assistant drove as fast as he could. He passed every car that was in his way.
The sound of the engine grew louder as they rushed through the road.
"Faster!" the man ordered.
"I’m going as fast as I can, sir."
"Then go faster."
"Yes, sir." The assistant tightened his grip on the steering wheel and continued driving.
The man looked down at Amelia again. Her eyes remained closed.
He could barely see her breathing. His heart tightened.
He reached for her hand. It was cold.
"Amelia..." He held her hand firmly. "Please stay with me."
The car continued speeding toward the nearest hospital.
Every second felt too long.
The man kept looking at Amelia, silently praying that she would open her eyes.
After some minutes, they finally arrived at the nearest hospital.
The assistant stopped the car in front of the emergency entrance.
Before the vehicle had even come to a complete stop, the man pushed the door open.
He immediately got out.
He bent down and carried Amelia into his arms again.
"Amelia!"
He started running into the hospital.
The emergency entrance opened automatically as he rushed inside.
Nurses immediately noticed the unconscious woman in his arms.
"Help!" the man shouted as he ran.
"Get a stretcher!" one of the nurses shouted.
The man continued running.
"Where’s the doctor?" he asked desperately.
His voice echoed through the hospital hallway.
The nurses hurried toward him. One nurse pushed a stretcher while another called for the emergency team.
The man carefully placed Amelia onto the stretcher.
The moment her body touched it, the nurses immediately began checking her.
"Move!"
They pushed the stretcher toward the emergency room.
The man tried to follow them.
"Wait!" One of the nurses raised her hand. "You have to stay outside."
He stopped. His chest rose and fell heavily.
He watched Amelia being pushed farther away from him.
The doctor rushed toward the emergency room.
The man took a step toward the doctor.
"Please save her for me." His voice trembled. "I’m begging you."
