~~~~~ Third-person POV ~~~~~
Sylvia continued typing for several minutes, her fingers moving steadily across the keyboard.
The soft tapping filled the quiet interior of the car.
Beside her, Amelia had grown unusually quiet.
At first, Sylvia assumed she was simply giving her space to concentrate. Amelia had been teasing her only moments ago, but now she was sitting peacefully in the passenger seat, one hand resting between them.
Sylvia glanced at her briefly.
Amelia was staring through the windshield.
The parking lot outside was quiet. The soft glow of the compound lights spread across the ground, while the trees beyond them swayed gently in the cool night breeze.
Sylvia returned her attention to the laptop.
She typed a few more sentences and then paused.
She reread what she had written before continuing.
Another few minutes passed.
Amelia shifted in her seat.
Sylvia noticed the movement from the corner of her eye but didn’t say anything.
Amelia adjusted herself again, this time moving slightly closer.
Her eyes were becoming heavier. She blinked several times, trying to fight the tiredness.
Sylvia continued writing.
The soft sound of the keyboard was almost fast.
Tap.
Tap.
Tap.
Amelia rested her head against the seat.
She closed her eyes for a moment and then opened them again.
She glanced at Sylvia.
Sylvia was completely focused on the screen.
A small smile appeared on Amelia’s lips.
There was something comforting about watching her.
Sylvia looked beautiful when she was concentrating.
Her brows were slightly drawn together, and her lips moved faintly whenever she silently read a sentence before typing it.
Amelia watched her for a while, and then her eyes slowly closed again.
She was tired.
Very tired.
And the warmth inside the car made it even harder to stay awake.
She shifted closer to Sylvia.
This time, Sylvia noticed, and she glanced at Amelia.
Their eyes met. Amelia gave her a sleepy smile.
Sylvia smiled back. Without saying anything, she moved her arm slightly, giving Amelia enough room to lean against her.
Amelia took the invitation and slowly rested her head on Sylvia’s shoulder.
Sylvia’s fingers paused above the keyboard as she looked down.
Amelia’s eyes were already closed.
Sylvia smiled.
She carefully adjusted her position so Amelia could rest more comfortably before returning to writing.
Amelia’s breathing gradually became slower.
Her body relaxed against Sylvia.
Within minutes, she had completely fallen asleep.
Sylvia continued typing.
Every now and then, she glanced down at Amelia.
A small smile always appeared whenever she did.
After some time, Sylvia lifted one hand from the keyboard.
She reached toward Amelia’s face and gently brushed a few strands of hair away from her cheek.
Her thumb slowly moved across Amelia’s skin.
"Did I make you wait too long?" Sylvia whispered.
Amelia didn’t answer.
She only moved slightly in her sleep, her head settling more comfortably against Sylvia’s shoulder.
Sylvia’s smile deepened. "Sleep, Minnie."
She carefully returned her hand to the laptop.
The quiet tapping of the keyboard continued.
The car remained still beneath the soft night lights.
Outside, the occasional sound of crickets could be heard from the garden.
A cool breeze moved through the trees, but inside the car, everything felt warm and peaceful.
Sylvia continued working.
One hour passed and then another.
The unfinished Chapter slowly became shorter.
Yet Sylvia didn’t seem bothered by the time.
Every time Amelia shifted, Sylvia instinctively adjusted herself.
When Amelia’s head slipped slightly, Sylvia gently moved her back into a comfortable position.
When a strand of hair fell across her face, Sylvia brushed it away.
She found herself watching Amelia more than she watched the laptop.
There was something about seeing her sleep peacefully against her that made Sylvia’s chest feel warm.
Amelia trusted her enough to fall asleep beside her, and that thought alone made Sylvia smile.
Eventually, Sylvia finished another section.
She leaned back slightly and stretched her fingers. Her eyes were beginning to feel tired.
She glanced down at Amelia, who was still asleep.
Sylvia shook her head affectionately.
"You really weren’t planning on keeping me company, were you?"
Amelia remained completely unaware.
Sylvia smiled and returned to the laptop.
More time passed, and eventually, the tapping stopped.
Sylvia saved her work and closed the laptop halfway.
She was about to close it completely when Amelia moved.
Sylvia immediately looked down.
Amelia’s eyelashes fluttered and she shifted her head.
Then slowly opened her eyes.
For several seconds, she looked confused.
Her eyes moved around the car. Then she felt the warmth beneath her cheek.
She realized she had been sleeping on Sylvia’s shoulder.
Amelia immediately lifted her head and sat up straight, blinking several times.
Sylvia was already looking at her.
"Babe," Amelia called softly. Her voice was still thick with sleep.
Sylvia smiled. "You’re awake."
Amelia rubbed her eyes and then looked at Sylvia’s shoulder.
"I’m sorry."
Sylvia raised an eyebrow. "For what?"
"I fell asleep on your shoulder." Amelia glanced at the laptop. "While you were writing."
Sylvia shook her head. "You don’t have to apologize."
"But your shoulder must hurt."
"A little."
Amelia’s eyes widened. "I knew it."
Sylvia laughed softly. "But I don’t mind."
Amelia stared at her.
Sylvia reached out and gently tucked a few strands of Amelia’s hair behind her ear.
"I love it, Minnie."
Amelia’s expression softened.
"I love having you close to me." Sylvia’s thumb brushed gently across her cheek. "Whenever you’re beside me, nothing about you makes me uncomfortable."
Amelia smiled. "You really don’t mind?"
"Not at all."
Sylvia leaned slightly closer. "I could sit here with you all night."
Amelia’s heart fluttered.
She looked at Sylvia for a moment, taking in the tenderness in her eyes.
Then she leaned closer, and their faces slowly came together.
Amelia pressed her lips gently against Sylvia’s.
The kiss was soft, slow, and tender.
Sylvia closed her eyes and kissed her back.
Her hand moved to Amelia’s cheek, holding her gently.
When Amelia finally pulled away, she remained close. Their foreheads almost touched.
A soft smile appeared on her lips. "You’re making me so obsessed with you, Sylvia."
Sylvia smiled. "Am I?"
"Yes."
Amelia lightly touched Sylvia’s arm. "I don’t think I can bear seeing anyone getting closer to you except me."
Sylvia’s expression softened.
Amelia lowered her gaze.
"I know it sounds selfish. I just..." She paused. "I don’t want to share you."
Sylvia gently took her hand. "You don’t have to."
Amelia looked up.
"I don’t want anyone else either."
The words made Amelia’s heart beat faster.
"I really love you," she whispered.
Sylvia squeezed her hand. "I love you too."
Amelia shook her head slightly.
"No. I mean, I really love you." She looked directly into Sylvia’s eyes. "I love you with everything I have."
Sylvia remained silent. She simply looked at her.
Amelia continued. "I don’t think I could ever get enough of you."
A small smile appeared on Sylvia’s lips, and A
Melia smiled too.
"I want to be beside you even when we’re doing nothing," Amelia said calmly.
Sylvia glanced around the car. "Like this?"
"Exactly like this." Amelia laughed softly. "We’re sitting inside a parked car."
"And you’re still happy?" Sylvia asked, a little surprised.
"Because you’re here," Amelia said, smiling and gently squeezing her hand.
"I don’t need anything else."
Sylvia slowly closed the laptop, and this time, she put it aside completely.
She turned fully toward Amelia. She took both of Amelia’s hands into hers and held them gently.
Then she lifted one of Amelia’s hands toward her lips.
She pressed a slow, tender kiss against her knuckles.
Amelia watched her silently. Her cheeks gradually turned pink.
Sylvia looked up at her. "Babe."
"Hmm?"
"I’m not ready to let go of you."
Amelia’s eyes softened.
"And I don’t think I will ever be ready." Sylvia brought Amelia’s hand closer to her face and leaned into her palm. "Not now."
She paused.
"Not tomorrow." Her eyes remained fixed on Amelia’s. "Not when we’re old."
Amelia’s lips curved into a small smile.
"And not in another lifetime," Sylvia said calmly.
Amelia’s face immediately turned bright red. She quickly looked away.
Sylvia laughed softly. "Why are you hiding your face?"
"I’m not."
"You are." Sylvia smiled wider.
Amelia covered her face with one hand.
"Stop looking at me."
Sylvia gently lowered her hand. "Why?"
"Because you’re embarrassing me."
"I like seeing you blush," Sylvia said, smiling.
Amelia rolled her eyes. "You enjoy teasing me."
"Only because you’re cute when you’re embarrassed."
Amelia tried to look away again.
Sylvia leaned closer and pressed a soft kiss against her cheek.
Amelia became still.
Sylvia kissed her cheek again and then her forehead.
Each kiss was gentle and affectionate.
Amelia’s heart melted. She wrapped her arms around Sylvia.
Sylvia immediately returned the embrace.
They stayed like that for a while.
The laptop sat forgotten beside them. The unfinished Chapter no longer mattered.
Neither did the time.
Amelia rested her head against Sylvia’s chest. She could hear Sylvia’s heartbeat beneath her ear.
"I wish we could stay like this forever," Amelia whispered.
Sylvia’s arms tightened around her. "We can."
Amelia lifted her head. "Really?"
Sylvia smiled. "Whenever you need me, I’m here."
Amelia stared at her. "Promise?"
"I promise."
Amelia smiled, and then she wrapped her arms around Sylvia again.
Sylvia gently stroked her hair.
For several quiet moments, they simply held each other.
Eventually, Amelia pulled back slightly. She looked into Sylvia’s eyes.
"I really don’t want to let you go."
Sylvia smiled. "Good."
Amelia laughed softly. "Good?"
"Because you’re stuck with me," Sylvia said, smiling.
"For how long?"
Sylvia pretended to think. "Forever."
Amelia smiled. "That’s a long time."
"I know."
"And you’re okay with that?" Amelia asked quietly.
Sylvia gently touched her cheek.
"I’m more than okay with it." She said and leaned closer. "You’re really stuck with me, Minnie."
Amelia smiled. "In this life?"
"In this life and the next. And every lifetime after that" Sylvia said and smiled. "Every single one."
Amelia’s eyes softened. "Then I’ll find you every time."
Sylvia smiled. "I know you will."
She leaned forward and pressed another gentle kiss against Amelia’s lips.
When they pulled apart, their foreheads rested together.
For a moment, neither of them spoke.
There was something peaceful in the silence.
Sylvia knew she would choose Amelia again.
Not just today.
Not just tomorrow.
But in every lifetime where she was given the chance to find her again.
And if Amelia was willing to search for her every time, Sylvia knew she would always be waiting.
Because some people were worth choosing once.
But Amelia was worth choosing forever.
