Evolution of the Ruined Heir

Chapter 331: Crack

Chapter 331: Crack

’Grade fours…’

Had the Gor’Mekhai fallen? Was this truly the Fourth Pulse’s plan?

’It’s not.’

The pulses were cold blooded and valued strength, however, none of them were stupid. Malakai was completely sure of it, everything that had occurred hadn’t been anticipated in the Fourth Pulse’s plans.

The vita veil that encompassed the city had not been meant to be broken. The Fourth Pulse had expected grade fours to spawn, but she must have also made plans to handle them.

But Malakai had shattered her clearly laid plan by breaking it. Now, he had broken through another vita veil meant to keep out other grade fours.

Now, aside from the three monsters on their tails, more were on their way.

Malakai glanced back, the three devils were hot on their tails. He clenched his teeth and faced his front.

“The fountain, now!” The scream tore from Malakai’s mouth. He couldn’t remember the last time he screamed, but now he felt compelled to.

Nyx and Rhett narrowed their eyes and they exploded with even more speed. They’d become nothing but crimson streaks tearing through the skies.

But not a second passed when another piercing scream reached their ears.

“BABY!”

Eyes turned towards the source, then narrowed.

Standing below, a distance away from the darkness pillars, was the figure of a woman. There was no one present who didn’t recognize her.

Beatrix Von Sanguine. The Fourth Pulse of the Sanguine clan.

Malakai felt his heart freeze.

Beatrix gazed at him with so much bloodlust that it seeped into his bones despite the distance. She hadn’t been engaged in any battle, but her aura had already flooded the space.

Beatrix looked at her lifeguard that seemed to be flashing red. Her expression shifted from horror, to dread and then unrestrained anger.

“How!?” she thundered.

’The Fifth Vein.’ Malakai realized, following her gaze to the figure behind him. Seraza.

As though hearing her mother’s cry, Seraza stirred. Through her battered figure, she seemed to sight her mother.

“M-mom.”

Seraza’s voice was barely a mutter, barely audible, yet it reached Beatrix’s ears.

“SERAZA!”

’Shit.’

Malakai cursed. Beatrix was ahead of them. Right now, the last thing they needed was her attacking and delaying them. Plus…

’She’s a direct descendant. A bloom…’

There was a saying across the dome. The Blood Sovereign and his direct descendants were monsters in human skin. All of them, especially the pulses, the blooms.

It was through the grand clans that people discovered that it was possible for a bloom to overwhelm other blooms. Their equals, or at least what people considered equals.

Most didn’t understand why, but the blooms of the grand families were of a different breed. The same could be said about direct descendants of the grand family.

Many of them could take on other blooms without breaking a sweat. They could fight and defeat multiple easily. And amongst the grand family, the Sanguine were known for being the most lethal.

With the ability to control blood, the pulses were unstoppable in battle. There was a saying to back up their insane power: only a direct descendant should battle a direct descendant.

Such was the power of a pulse. And right now, it was such a being that locked on to the group.

Malakai finally understood the gravity of the situation. It wasn’t that she would delay them, no, she could stop them completely.

If the three devils should catch up with them. If the remaining darkness should spawn, then all was lost.

Beatrix’s eyes shone like twin crimson suns. Her figure dipped, and in the next moment, she launched.

The earth cratered, debris erupting everywhere as she tore toward the group like a beam of light.

“We can’t afford any delay!” Malakai barked.

No answer came. Instead, Rhett and Nyx met eyes, as though measuring, weighing. And in that instant, they seemed to come to an understanding.

“Protect him,” Nyx said.

Malakai froze. The grip on his shoulder suddenly tightened, and the next moment he was hurled toward Rhett, who caught him firmly in both hands.

“Nyx!” Malakai shouted.

But she only smiled. “I’m leaving the rest to you, Ninth Vein.”

Malakai’s expression paled, his emotions raging. He knew Nyx was powerful, but against a direct descendant, her victory wasn’t certain.

’I have to get to the fountain.’ He steeled his mind. Brooding would only waste time and cut her chances further. He needed to be focused.

Malakai gave her a firm nod.

“Survive.”

A smile bloomed on her lips. “I will.”

In the next moment, her aura detonated. Blood spilled from her pores, encasing her in radiant crimson armor.

In a blur she surged forward, ripping past the group.

Crimson met crimson.

The explosion was world-ending.

The world was bathed scarlet, a blast that devoured the horizon. Shockwaves howled outward, intense waves of destruction tearing toward them.

“We have to block!” Rhett roared.

Malakai’s focus snapped outward, the vita igniting into a barrier around them. Rhett didn’t waste a breath, his dome of blood closed over them, then twisted, reshaping into a searing grill that split through the devastation.

Together, they blasted through and tore out from the choking haze.

Malakai turned back in time to see a figure plummeting from the sky. His expression darkened.

It was Nyx, her arm shattered, cracks splintering her armor.

Malakai found his heart beating fast.

Then he felt Beatrix’s gaze burn onto them.

“I’ll kill you, bastard!” she thundered.

But before she could move, Nyx appeared behind her like a phantom, eyes blazing crimson, bloodlust choking the air. Her hand snapped out, screaming toward Beatrix.

“You accursed woman!” Beatrix spat, whipping back. Their clash exploded, detonating like a bomb.

Malakai saw them blur into streaks, red tearing across the heavens, lighting the skies.

’I have to do something.’

The thought thundered in his mind as he sensed the incoming grade fours. If he didn’t do anything, Nyx could die!

A thought suddenly struck him.

’It should work.’

They were already far from Beatrix and close to their target. They could risk her anger and chase.

Malakai’s gaze hardened as he made his decision. His hand stretched out and in the next moment Seraza appeared, her neck clamped in his grip.

“BEATRIX!”

His roar cut through the raging battle. Beatrix froze and turned towards him, her eyes snapped wide in horror.

Through the chaos, Malakai’s gaze gleamed.

“You can go fuck yourself.”

The words had barely dropped before his grip tightened.

A sickening crack split the air and Seraza’s neck broke.
