Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 196: Return

Chapter 196: Return

“It’s not going to take long. Only a few weeks. In the meantime, you should prepare everything you need. When the time arrives, you should be ready to take action.”

Liora was not surprised by these words. She nodded her head to show that she understood.

However, she didn’t rush to leave this place. She showed a pondering look on her face before speaking up:

“I also need to recover my full strength. To do so, I need massive amounts of beast blood, preferably the blood of King of Knights beasts.”

“Could you gather some for me?”, she requested.

Her words caught the Beast Emperor off guard.

It hesitated for a few seconds.

Carrying the will of the King of Knights beasts of the past, its loyalty to the beast race as a whole was absolute.

Yet now, Liora was asking it to gather their blood.

Though she didn’t explicitly state the method to do so, it was clear that she wanted it to kill them, or at very least, injure them.

But although reluctant, it didn’t refuse. To it, the survival of the beast race was above all else.

The sacrifice of a few beasts for the betterment of the beast race was something it was willing to do.

After all, compared to these beasts, its alliance with Liora was indeed far more important at the moment.

“Don’t worry, I will do my best to gather it as soon as possible. Every additional bit of strength that can help us deal with the Founding Emperor is welcome.”, the Beast Emperor’s voice echoed in the dimly lit room.

Having received the Beast Emperor’s promise, Liora did not stay in this place any longer.

After the two exchanged some information and agreed on a place to meet when the time came, she left the center of the Ancient Beast Wilderness and even the forest as a whole.

Before long, she had returned to Hope City.

Not much had changed since she left.

The Infernal Army was still wandering through the city’s streets, terrorizing the fearful pedestrians.

Some of the residents fought back, while others resigned to their fate.

But Liora paid no heed to this. She no longer had any interest in watching the chaos.

Although only a few hours had passed, many things had occurred during this time.

Her discovery of the King of Knights’ secret, her advancement to a Lesser Devil, the meeting with the Beast Emperor, and the eventual reveal of this world’s history.

Everything seemed like a dream, having all happened in the span of less than a day.

“I searched for the truth for so long, but I was unable to find anything. Yet, the moment I became a Lesser Devil, everything was revealed to me without me even trying.”, she whispered.

“Sure enough, this is the difference in strength. The secrets that Great Knights will never learn are but a mere afterthought of the beings standing at the apex of the world.”

In fact, Liora knew that if she were strong enough, she didn’t even need to spend any time investigating.

If she possessed the strength of an Archdevil or even an Ancient Devil, she could have paid a visit to the Will of the World and “politely” asked it everything in person.

At the end of the day, power reigned supreme.

This held true in the Demon World, a chaotic world filled with struggling Devils and constant war, and was also true in the world of Knights, a more “orderly” world where crime and evil in general were suppressed.

“Lord, you’re back.”

The moment she stepped into her residence, Alpha immediately appeared before her and greeted Liora respectfully.

A strange glint flashed in her amber eyes as she rose up, and after a moment of hesitation, she couldn’t help but ask:

“Lord, did something unexpected happen during your travels?”

Liora was surprised to hear such a question. After all, although a lot of things had happened, she had not left for very long.

It should have been impossible for anyone to find out that there was something wrong with her.

Yet, Alpha was able to guess something.

“Sure enough, it deserves to be a person who has followed me for most of my life. Though it’s not obvious, her perception is pretty keen. At the same time, she perhaps knows me best…”, Liora muttered inwardly.

But in reality, she lightly shook her head:

“No. I just went to the wilderness to hunt a few beasts.”

Liora was not planning to let Alpha know about her meeting with the Beast Emperor, nor about the Zerg at the moment.

She was only going to inform her when her help was actually needed. At the moment, it was not.

Though Alpha knew that she was not being truthful, she didn’t press any further.

Although her personality had been further developed and she was no longer a mere puppet, she was still a mechanical creature created by Liora after all.

In situations like these, she would take her word for it.

But she didn’t leave. Alpha opened her mouth and spoke again, changing the subject.

“Lord, while you were away, both Duchess Lobelia and the Commander of the Infernal Army visited you. It seems that they have something to request of you.”, she said.

“They requested that I inform you when you come back.”

“Did the two come? Sure enough, the struggle between them has begun…”, Liora clicked her tongue and chuckled.

Though she had talked with neither, she could guess the reason for their visit.

Most likely, they wanted to ask for her help.

Or to be more accurate, Duchess Lobelia wanted to ask for her assistance to deal with the Commander, while the Commander wished for her to stay out of their struggle.

Liora might have played with them if it had been before.

But after having learned of the impending danger and knowing that a world-shaking battle would soon occur, she was no longer in the mood to participate in what she considered to be a children’s game.

“If they come again, tell them that I am at a crucial moment in my Knight training and that I’m currently busy.”, Liora shook her hand and told Alpha.
